Abstract

Welding is an important process in the manufacturing, metal and machinery industries, the welding results of students in the 1G Steel ST7 position are studied with the aim of identifying potential weld defects, determining root causes, evaluating and developing repair strategies to improve overall welding quality. The methods used in this research are qualitative and quantitative methods. Measuring welding dimensions with visual weld inspection, as well as liquid penetrant testing to identify weld defects. The data is processed using a Pareto diagram to determine the dominant types of defects that occur in the welding process. Once the dominant defect type is known, analysis is then carried out using the Fault Tree Analysis method. The results of the liquid penetrant test show that there are 8 types of weld defects with a total of 62 defects. In the FTA, basic events have been identified that contribute to the occurrence of weld defects, namely factors such as welding speed instability, incorrect current settings, and moist electrode. Regular evaluation, continuous monitoring and supervision during the welding process to reduce the risk of defects and improve welding quality

Abstract

Determination of the type of mesh and mesh manufacturing density plays a very important role in a simulation, this is due to minimize the time and computational costs. This study presents a comparison of the influence of mesh on CFD analysis. Mesh is the most important part in doing a simulation. Mesh is good, affects the calculation results of a simulation. To simulate internal flow in injection molding cooling channels to make it more accurate. There are three types of mesh that are applied in a simulation of this study, namely: hexahedral, polyhedral, and tetrahedral mesh are applied to simulate the internal flow of cooling channel injection molding using the k-epsilon turbulence model. Simulation results show that the simulation method using the polyhedral mesh is proposed to be able to speed up calculations and accelerate the convergence of the simulation as evidenced by an iteration graph. The use of polyhedral mesh in CFD simulations is more effective than using tetrahedral or hexahedral mesh. However, the use of hexahedral mesh simulation results is closer to the experiment and requires a long iteration time. In addition, the result is polyhedral mesh requires less computational time than hexahedral mesh and tetrahedral mesh. Using polyhedral mesh in CFD was found to be more effective than using tetrahedral elements.

Abstract

Garbage is a problem that is still ongoing today. Based on data from the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, there is the province of Central Java as the highest waste generation in 2022. Therefore, it is necessary to have waste management activities so that they do not have an impact on the environment. One of the community groups that has carried out this activity is the Real Berkah Garbage Bank group located in Pandes Village, Wedi District, Klaten Regency, Central Java Province. The group has been processing organic waste and inorganic waste. However, the management stopped, because one part of the waste processing machine was permanently damaged. So there is a need for a new engine replacement. To prevent this from happening again, community service activities are also needed to increase the level of public understanding in theory and practice. The method used in this community service activity is the lecture method and the practical method. Through this community service activity, there was an increase in the level of understanding of the lecture method by 80% and an increase in the level of understanding of the practical method by 55%.

Abstract

Alloys based on Fe-Ni-Co are categorized as special nickel-based superalloys with braod application as magnetic sensors in electric motors, recording devices as well as for vehicle engine parts. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical and mechanical properties of Fe-Ni-Co materials synthesized by mechanical alloying method, then subjected to annealing temperature variation i.e 800oC, 900oC, and 1000oC for 1 hour. Test methods carried out by XRD-spectra to identify the phase, SEM and EDS mapping to determine the microstructure and composition together with micro hardness test to represent the mechanical properties of this FeNiCo alloys. The results of the XRD test showed that Co atoms and some Fe dissolved into the Ni crystal lattice tended to form a solid solution of g-Ni(Fe,Co). Microstructural observations at 900 OC after milling for 16 hours showed a fine and homogeneous grain structure. The highest hardness value was 421.5 kg/mm2 at 16 hours milling. The Fe-Ni-Co alloy exhibited a homogeneous microstructural distribution with a fine grain structure and high densification.

Abstract

Bucket teeth are an important component of an excavator that functions as a material penetrator or digger. This part is prone to failure because it is in direct contact with the ground. This study aims to determine the value of stress, strain, deformation, and safety factors that occur in the Komatsu PC400 excavator bucket teeth against thickness variations of 2.5 mm, 5 mm, 7.5 mm, and 10 mm. This study uses a computer with specifications: processor: Intel (R) Celeron (R) N4000 CPU @ 1.10 GHz, memory: 8 GB. Windows 10 Home Single Language 64-bit Operating System. This computer is equipped with Autodesk Inventor Professional 2023 and ANSYS Workbench R1 2023 software. The method used in this research is a testing method using ANSYS software with a finite element method approach, namely static structural. The simulation results of bucket teeth show the maximum deformation values are 0.16382 mm, 0.13832 mm, 0.1249 mm, and 0.11619 mm, respectively. Furthermore, the maximum equivalent stress values are 108.6 Mpa, 79.712 Mpa, 80.338 Mpa, and 79.992 Mpa, respectively. For the equivalent elastic strain maximum, 0.00052993, 0.00038899, 0.000392, and 0.00039029 were obtained. Then the safety factor value is obtained 3.8214, 5.2062, 5.1657, and 5.188. This shows that the thicker the thickness variation, the better the strength value.

Abstract

Weeds account for approximately 40–65% of rice production losses and affect 15–42% of arable land. If not managed promptly, crop yields could be drastically reduced. Traditional weed control methods, including manual weeding, chemical, semi-mechanical, and mechanical techniques, vary in effectiveness and efficiency. Conventional chemical and semi-mechanical methods are often less effective, costly, time-consuming, and environmentally detrimental. Thus, mechanical weed control presents a superior alternative. This study aims to compare the performance of power weeder machines equipped with vertical and horizontal cultivator claws in terms of weeding time, tool efficiency, and plant damage. The experiment was conducted on 30-day-old rice plants, with each test performed four times over a 1 x 6-meter area, maintaining a muck depth of 20 cm between rice plants. The power weeder machines were equipped with eight claws per unit, a 1.5 HP drive motor, and operated on a mix of oil and petrol fuel. Results indicate that the vertical-type cultivator claw achieved a work efficiency of 72.42%, while the horizontal-type cultivator claw achieved 86.04%. Weeding effectiveness was 93.10% for horizontal claws and 94.77% for vertical claws. Post-weeding, the horizontal cultivator claws caused 14.13% damage to rice plants, compared to 5.73% for vertical claws. Given its high weeding efficiency and minimal plant damage, the vertical type claw cultivator is highly recommended.

Abstract

One other central support that is used in motor sports is the paddock stand. Increased need for shipyards is a result of Indonesia's growing motorsports industry. A decent stand must be ideal in terms of material, design, and size in addition to being appropriate for motorcycle installation. Finite elements were used in this study's static analysis to establish the distribution of total deformation, stress, and safety factor under a loading of 2000 N. According to the investigation, the second paddock stand design variant has greater equivalent stress and total deformation values with values of 375.83 MPa and 0.54331 mm. The paddock stand design is still not safe for 2000 N loads, according to the safety factor value

Abstract

One of the industrial components used in the transportation of goods is a crane. A combination lifting mechanism consisting of lifting components whose main function can be used to lift, move and place one or more objects. More specifically, when crane hooks connected by chains or ropes are used, loads such as boxes, builders and suspended machinery or tools are transported, which are unloaded by chains wound through a pulley system with two drums, so crane hooks play a very important role. Utilising CAD software for modelling the double crane hook, the finite element approach is then used for meshing and structural analysis. Mild steel is the material, and the load is 2000N. The simulation produced a total displacement value of 0.1101 mm, a von Mises stress maximum value of 203.7 MPa, and a von Mises stress minimum value of 9.64e-04 MPa. The value of the corresponding strain ranges from 5.238e-09mm to 0.001216mm. 1.016 is the safety factor value. This indicates that a design's safety value is lower than its necessary value.

Abstract

Piyungan Integrated Waste Disposal Site (TPST) is a waste disposal site in Yogyakarta province. With an estimated increase in the amount of waste of 8% per year, it is estimated that the TPST will not be able to accommodate waste from the community. One of these wastes is PET bottle. This research aims to develop a new recycling method by converting PET plastic waste into 3D Printer machine filament and investigate the opportunity of this PET filament. This research uses several stage methods: PET filament making, Tensile test, macroscopy photography and opportunity analysis. This study concludes that PET bottle waste can be used as 3D printer filament with a diameter of 1.7 mm. Processing PET bottle waste into 3D printer machine filament can increase the economic value of PET bottle waste. And this can contribute to the potential for processing plastic bottle waste.
