Abstract

Analysis of English teacher strategies in teaching reading comprehension in the new normal era. This study aims to see how the strategies used by English teachers in teaching reading comprehension in this new normal era. This research was conducted at SMPN 3 Kuok. As a research subject, this understanding of reading comprehension involved three English teachers. The design and method used in this research is descriptive research. The author uses telephone interviews by giving questions to each English teacher as an instrument in this study. The results of this study indicate that 3 English teachers at SMPN 3 Kuok use strategies to teach reading even though the teaching process is carried out online with the WhatsApp application. In order for students to stay focused while reading, the teacher prohibits other students from sending messages while other friends are recording sound, this is done in order to remain disciplined and keep students focused and the teacher always gives a message by recording sound. And then provide the opportunity for students to make conclusions, for students who are able to do research who are given an A grade. In this study, the researcher concluded that the strategy in teaching reading and reading carried out by the English teacher at SMPN 3 Kuok was good.

Abstract

The destination of the research is to pattern a model of English learning assessment writing based on authentic for teacher and students of Senior High School English. Within few decades, the assessments of English learning process and learning outcomes for some aspects are isolated. The guides of English learning ways are teachers performance, students behavior toward English learning, and English learning amenities. Meanwhile in English learning outcomes the indicators are focused on writing. The result of isolating the learning process and outcomes are the students English writing based on authentic mitigated. The research design used is Research and Development (R&D). In this pattern, the development model and its setting are ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate). The products testing are carried out at Grade XI Natural Science of Senior High School in Bangkinang Town. The instruments of the research are observation, tests and questionnaires. The experts of assessments, methodology and English education test the validity, practicality and effectiveness of the model of English learning assessment writing based on authentic. The research finding indicates that the assessments of English learning process and learning outcomes affect to the students English writing based on authentic. The students English mastery is better when these two processes, learning process and learning outcomes are integrated. In conclusion, the assessment of English learning process and English learning outcomes must be comprehensively integrated. This indicates the importance of assessing English learning holistically

Abstract

The objective of the research is to describe how the students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. This research was conducted at MTS-TI Batu Belah. The subject of this research consists of 26 students of the second grade. The method of this research is a descriptive research. The researcher used two instruments, test and questionnaire. Based on the data analysis, it showed that the average of the students’ achievement in reading comprehension of descriptive text was 49. It was categorized in Poor level. Furthermore, the students’ responses showed that 21 the students like reading. Meanwhile, 5 the students didn’t like reading english text. 21 the students want to learne about new vocabulary before used dictionary. Meanwhile, 5 the students didn’t understand about the vocabulary without used dictionary. 16 the students can finding specific information. Meanwhile, 10 the students felt difficult in understand English well. 13 the students felt easy to find the main idea and the supporting detail. Meanwhile, 13 the students feel difficult to find the main idea . 16 the students felt didn’t difficult in guessing the title of the text. Meanwhile, 10 the students felt the title was difficult to guess. 12 the students felt didn’t like to answer the questions about vocabulary. Abstract

This research discusses the elements of instructional design in model writing. In this model present guidelines for writing instructional design and technical elements in models writing. Instructional design models provide for a systematic approach of implementing the instructional design process for a specific educational initiative. The instrument is observation and test. The instructional models are followed by process of selected models of the Dick and Carey systems approach and description for each model will serve as the foundation and supporting points required for comparing and contrasting process of the models. The result is find some element that is Conduct instructional analysis, Analyze learners and contexts, Write performance objectives, Develop assessment instruments, Develop instructional strategies.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the students’ skill of XI Grade IPA 2 of SMAN 1 SALO in writing narrative text. The sample of this research is the second grade students of SMAN 1 SALO. The class consists of 20 students, the researcher used total sampling technique to determine the sample research. The research is a descriptive qualitative research. The purpose of this research is to describe the students’ writing skill of narrative text. This research was done with some steps. The steps are collecting the data, analyzing the data, making conclusions, and reporting result. The result of the research showed that the students’ writing skill of narrative text at second grade of SMAN 1 SALO in Excellent Category was 0%, in Good Category was 0%, in Fairly Good Category was 30%, in Weak Category was 55%, and in Poor Category was 15%. So, it can be concluded that the students’ writing skill in narrative text at second grade of SMAN 1 SALO was weak.

Abstract

This experimental research was conducted at the tenth grade in SMA Muhammadiyah Bangkinang. This study aims to determine the effect of Short Movie on students' speaking skills. The research methodology was quasi experimental design. The sample of this research is class X IPA as the experimental class and X IPS as the control class. The experimental class consist of 21 students and the control class consisted of 24 students. This study uses a total sampling technique which includes all students in class X. The instrument used in this study is a speaking test. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 25 program. Based on the results of the study, the average score of students in the experimental class was 68.19 and 32.00 in the control class. Data analysis showed a significance (2-tailed) 0.000 0.05 it means Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that there is an effect on the use of Short Movie on students' speaking skills.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the number of students who get low scores, especially in writing at 11th grade student of MA MualiminMuhammadiyahBangkinang. RAFT strategy is an effective strategy for overcoming this problem. Based on the problem, this research aims to find out whether there is an effect on using RAFT strategies towards the students writing skill in online class, in academic year 2019/2020. This is a quasi-experimental research. This research involves 46 students of two classes, class XI IPA Putri as the experimental class consists of 23 students and class XI IPA Putra as the control class consists of 23 students. The experimental class using RAFT strategies and control class using Teacher’s method. The data were obtained by using Pre-test and Post-test. Pre-test was given to both classes before the treatment and Post-test of both classes were analyzed by using t-test analysis. Based on the data analysis of the research showed that the average students post-test in experimental class were 72, and control class has average students post-test were 65. Based on the data analysis of variance it can be seen that the significant (2-tailed) of 0.000 which is smaller than 0.05. It can be concluded that there is the effect of RAFT strategies toward students’ writing skill at the eleventh grade of MA MualiminMuhammadiyahBangkinang

Abstract

English is the language used by almost everyone. In Indonesia, English is the first foreign language and a required subject in schools. Nowadays, not only a foreign language but also taught from secondary up to university. Learning English aims to master the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students also begin to interact with others at the college level, they begin to learn to communicate in writing (Rianti 2016). In this section, the author focuses on writing. This research is a descriptive method. According to Nazir (1988:63) says that Descriptive method is a method of researching the status of a group of humans, an object, a set of conditions, a system of thought, or a class of events in the present. The purpose of this descriptive study was to create a description, picture, or painting in systematic, factual, and accurate information on the facts, properties, and relationships among the phenomena investigated. This research was conducted in SMA 2 Bangkinang Kota, located in Abdul Shaleh N0. 55, Bangkinang, Kampar, Riau. The total of students is 28. They consist of 12 males and 16 females. The main concern of this research was focused on the Analysis of students'' writing skills of descriptive text in the second grade of SMA 2 Bangkinang Kota. In this discussion of the result of students'' scores on writing ability of descriptive text. The result of the tests for the students was fair. Score the range showed that the mean score of test 1. The test of the students is categorized as good and fair. It means the level of excellence is no students or 0 % students. The level good is 8 or 32 % students. The fair level is 20 or 80 % students. From the discussion above the level of students in the test are fair. The student''s problems in writing skills of descriptive text are the student''s lack of vocabulary, which indicates the students did not bring a dictionary during when learning process and the students think that English vocabulary is hard to be learned. The students should always bring a dictionary when English learning. As already mentioned in the first chapter, the aim of this study are to describe students’ ability in writing a descriptive text focused on Content, Grammar, Vocabulary, Organization, and Mechanics in the Second Grade of SMA 2 Bangkinang Kota. The researcher would like to conclude that 28 students at XI IPA 3 in SMA 2 Bangkinang are fair in writing descriptive text. Based on the data presentation and the previous chapter, the researcher gets a conclusion of the research. The students'' writing skill in the descriptive text is fair. The result shows the mean score of the test is 69. It is classified that the students writing skills in the descriptive text of test are fair to level.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine students' mastery in finding verbs, especially regular and irregular verbs through "A Million Dreams" song to find out how much students mastery in knowing verbs in a song. Furthermore, the method used in this study is a qualitative research method. The data of this study were collected through tests as data instruments. The population in this study were students of class X IPS 2 SMAN 1 Bangkinang in the academic year 2022/2023. The population consists of one social studies class and the sample of this study is 26 students. The results showed that a song can build students' motivation to learn English in finding verbs, especially regular and irregular verbs easily. Songs are able to facilitate students' mastery in finding verbs in a song. Thus, the writer concludes that the song "A Million Dream" can motivate students' mastery in finding verbs based on student needs and language level learning objectives. Songs in learning positive activities can develop listening skills, better understand lessons, and broaden knowledge.

Abstract

This experimental research was carried out in the second semester of the English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. This study aims to determine the effect of the Skimming Method on students' reading comprehension. The research methodology uses a pre-experimental design. The sample of this research is the second semester formed in one group using the Pretest and Post-test. Consists of 32 students. This study used a total sampling technique which involved all English Language and Education students in the second semester. The instrument used in this study was a reading comprehension test. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 16 program. Based on data analysis, the study showed that the average post-test score of experimental class students was 87.59 and the average pre-test score was 38.62. So the difference is 48.97. Data analysis showed a significance (2-tailed) 0.000 0.05, which means that Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that there is an influence on the use of the Skimming Method on students' reading comprehension.
