Abstract

This study focused on the influence of problem-based learning (PBL) models on student learning outcomes and students' problem-solving skills, the improvement of student learning outcomes and KPM, and the improvement of each indicator. This research was quasi-experiment. The population of this study were all class X Senior High School 4 Medan totalling ten classes. Sampling was done by simple random sampling. Class X-8 as an experimental class and class X-9 as a control class with totalling 32 students. The instrument for student learning outcomes is a multiple-choice test, and KPM was an essay test. The learning outcomes and KPM posttest in experimental class with PBL models were 77.97 and 62.78 while the control class with conventional learning was 70.3 and 41.8. Hypothesis testing shows the final learning outcomes and KPM of the two classes were different. The results concluded that there was an influence of PBL model on student learning outcomes and students’ KPM, there was an improvement of PBL model on student learning outcomes and students’ KPM, and an improvement in each indicator of KPM in the experimental class was bigger than conventional class. Keywords: problem-based learning, learning outcomes, problem-solving skills

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using cooperative learning model which was Group Investigation (GI) model toward the student learning results on the subject matter Kinetic Theory of Gas Class XI Semester II Senior High School 18 Medan Academic Year 2016/2017. This kind of research was quasi-experiment with two group pre-test and post-test design. The population in research is all of students class XI Senior High School Negeri 18 Medan consists of 4 class. The sample of the research was taken by two classes determined by random sampling technique, that is class XI MIPA-2 using cooperative group investigation model type with number of students is 24 people and class XI MIPA-3 using conventional learning with number of students is 27 people. The research instrument in the form of an essay test was eight matter — data analysis techniques used by normality test, homogeneity test and different test (t-test). The results of data analysis there is the influence of cooperative learning model: group investigation type toward the resulting student learning on the subject matter Kinetic Theory of Gas in class XI Senior High School 18 Medan, Academic Year 2016/2017.Keywords: cooperative learning model type group investigation, the result of student learning, kinetic theory of gas

Abstract

Based on the PISA 2022 results, the scientific literacy abilities of Indonesian students are still below the international average. This research aims to see the level of scientific literacy abilities of junior high school students in Medan City in 2023. This research was carried out at several representative schools designated by researchers as schools representing sub-districts in Medan City. Sample selection was carried out using stratified random sampling. From the 21 sub-districts in the city of Medan, one superior junior high school in each sub-district was selected. From the 21 selected schools, 1 superior 8th grader from that school was taken from each school. The instruments used are scientific literacy questions which have previously been developed by researchers following the indicators set out in the PISA 2018 framework which consists of 15 indicators for 3 scientific literacy competencies in the PISA 2018 framework. It can be concluded that the average scientific literacy ability of students in Medan City was still in the sufficient category. Student achievement was still low in several PISA 2018 framework scientific literacy competency indicators
