Abstract

Background: Laserpuncture is a technology that uses short-wave rays to receptors (acupuncture points) to increase the capacity and efficiency of organs to increase the productivity of animals’ livestock. This can improve feed efficiency to help breeders maximize their beef bull fattening business. Purpose: This study was to test the potential of laserpuncture and probiotics on body weight gain and the digestibility of crude protein in Madura bull. Methods: This study used 12 Madura bulls with an age range of 2-2.5 years. The bulls were divided into two treatment groups. The P1 group shot laserpuncture at a dose of 0.5 joules. The P2 group received laserpuncture at a dose of 0.5 joules with 5 ml of probiotics administration in 1 liter of water. Data was taken by recording the weight gain of Madurese bulls every week and the results of crude protein digestibility testing. The resulting data is then analyzed using the T-test. Results: This study showed no significant difference between P1 and P2 in male Madura cattle’s body weight gain and crude protein digestibility. Conclusion: The combination of laserpuncture at the growth point and probiotic administration in feed did not cause a significant difference in weight gain or digestibility of crude protein in male Madurese bull.

Abstract

Heat stress due to high environmental conditions can affect the digestibility of organic and inorganic broilers. Buriti oil (Mauritia flexuosa L.) contains antioxidants that can suppress Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) thereby reducing the negative effects of heat stress. This study aims to determine the effect of adding buriti oil to the ration on the organic and inorganic matter of digestibility in broiler exposed to heat stress. This research was experimental and the method used is the completely randomized design method (CRD). The treatment be carried out on 20 broiler aged 22-35 days who are kept in individual cages. Broiler in the treatment group were given heat stress induction using gasolec up to a temperature 35 ± 1o°C for 4 hours every day. Broiler were randomly selected in 4 treatment groups divided into K- (temperature 27 ± 2°C + complete feed), K+ (exposure to temperature 35 ± 1°C + complete feed), P1 (exposure to temperature 35 ± 1°C + complete feed + 2% buriti oil total feed gram /head /day) and P2 (exposure to temperature 35 ± 1°C + complete feed + 4% buriti oil total feed gram /head /day).

Abstract

This research aimed to identify ectoparasites infecting farmed striped catfish in Karangpilang Surabaya, Indonesia. Individual catfishes with visible lesions on the body surface and abnormal behaviors were included in the study. Mucilage samples of 90 fishes were examined under a microscope for the presence of ectoparasite on the body surface of the fish, in the area of gills, skins, fins, and tails. Gills were cut with scissors and combed with a tweezer. Skin and fin were also scrapped with a sterile scalpel. The mucus obtained was put on an object glass and was observed under the microscope. The fish pond water was analysed for Oxygen Demand (DO), pH and temperature three times two weeks apart, starting from the day of fish sampling. Results showed that 42.2% (n=90) of samples were infected by ectoparasites. The ectoparasites identified were Gyrodactylus sp., Dactylogyrus sp., Trichodina sp. and Chilodonella sp. Fish pond water in the study site was of suitable quality for the growth of catfish. This study suggested that pathogens other than ectoparasites play roles in the development of pathologic conditions of stripped catfishes in the study area.
