Abstract

Physical activity can improve the physical and mental health of adolescents so it is an important aspect for adolescents. However, data from around the world show that adolescents have consistently experienced a decline in physical activity. Less than 20% of adolescents meet WHO physical activity standards. Many studies have found factors that affect physical activity, but only a few studies have combined all of these factors into one complete theory. This systematic review aims to identify and synthesize the main factors that affect physical activity among adolescents according to social cognitive theory. This systematic review refers to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, with inclusion criteria for healthy adolescents aged 10-24 years, articles included in English published in 2020-2025, were quantitative studies using cross-sectional study study research design and physical activity as independent variables using a theoretical social-cognitive approach. The quality of the study assessment by JBI critical assessment tool and used a narrative approach based on the theme of the social cognitive theory. Social cognitive theory is a solid basis for determining the complex components that influence adolescent physical activity. Interventions used to improve adolescent physical activity should prioritize self-efficacy social support an integrated and interacting family, school and community Kata Kunci: Physical activity, Social cognitive theory, Adolescents, cross-sectional study

Abstract

Several factors that can influence blood pressure and heart rate in hypertensive patients are physical activity, where hatha yoga can be a non-pharmacological intervention solution for hypertensive sufferers by emphasizing the effects of relaxation and blood circulation. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of hatha yoga practice on reducing blood pressure and pulse rate in patients with hypertension. Methods: This research uses a quasi-experiment design with a pre-post test control group design. The research population was 72 elderly people with hypertension and 48 respondents were recruited as samples using purposive sampling techniques. This research was divided into 2 groups, namely the treatment group and the control group, each with 24 respondents. The independent variable hatha yoga was carried out using standard operating procedures (SOP), while blood pressure and pulse were the dependent variables measured using a sipgnomanometer, stethoscope, oximeter and observation sheet. Data analysis used a paired t-test with p<0.05 and because the data was normally distributed. Results: There was an effect of hatha yoga on blood pressure and pulse rate in hypertensive patients (p=0.000) in the intervention group. Systolic blood pressure decreased from 147.78 ± 6.014 to 131.08 ± 6.576. Diastolic blood pressure decreased from 95.08 ± 2.278 to 80.81 ± 6.032 and pulse rate decreased from 87.62 ± 5.570 to 79.49 ± 5.295. Conclusion: Non-pharmacological intervention using hatha yoga shows a positive influence in reducing blood pressure and pulse rate in elderly people with hypertension.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition frequently associated with poor treatment adherence, emphasizing the importance of self-care–based intervention strategies. This systematic review aims to assess the effectiveness of educational and support group interventions rooted in self-care theory in enhancing adherence and controlling blood pressure among individuals with hypertension. The review followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, with articles retrieved from seven databases (Scopus, PubMed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, SAGE Journals, Springer Nature, and Cochrane Library) published between January 2020 and December 2025. Eligible studies were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluated the impact of education or support interventions on adherence and blood pressure outcomes. Methodological quality was assessed using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist. Out of 320 identified articles, 9 RCTs met the inclusion criteria, conducted in Indonesia, Iran, Egypt, China, and Turkey, involving a total of 1,011 participants aged 60–74 years. The interventions included structured education sessions, self-directed modules based on self-care theory, group discussions, and peer support activities. Most studies reported improvements in medication adherence and healthy lifestyle behaviors, along with significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Self-care–based interventions were found effective in increasing patient engagement in hypertension management. However, the diversity in intervention formats and durations highlights the need for standardization. These strategies are feasible for implementation in both community and primary care settings.
