Abstract

This study aims to develop an effective intervention to improve self-acceptance of TB patients who experience stigma and discrimination using the Health Belief Model-Based Social Support approach. Web of Science, ProQuest and Pubmed databases were used to search for keywords derived from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) system for relevant articles in the preparation of this systematic. The results showed the initial literature search yielded 74 articles (48 Web Of Science, 7 from Proquest and 19 from Pubmed). After reviewing the abstracts for relevance and matching the inclusion criteria, 21 articles were selected for full-text review. Finally, 16 articles were selected for review and the results of the 16 articles analyzed showed that social support with the Health Belief Model can help reduce stigma and discrimination in TB patients. The conclusion of this study is that the results of the systematic review provide evidence for policy makers to consider alternative interventions using this method to fight stigma and discrimination so that the treatment process of TB patients becomes faster. Keywords: Social support Models, Health belief Model, Accept Yourself, Tuberculosis, Stigma, Discrimination.

Abstract

Tuberculosis treatment is carried out daily for a long time, causing boredom with taking medication and reducing medication adherence. It results in drug resistance and more prolonged treatment. In response to the situation, this study developed an android-based application called the education, calendar, and medication alarm (EKA) app to improve medication adherence and self-efficacy of tuberculosis patients. Research and development with four steps: evaluation of health education, medication adherence, and self-efficacy; application development; feasibility test; and application socialization. The sample in this study was 38 respondents. This study also uses morisky medication adherence scale (MMAS-8), self-efficacy, and system usability scale (SUS) questionnaires and evaluation sheets to collect the data. Data analysis was done descriptively. The outcomes of the application feasibility test showed that the EKA application received an acceptable value of 81.5 based on acceptance, B value (81.5) based on value scale, an excellent value (81.5) based on adjective rating, and good score (81.5) based on percentile. Socialization on the use of the application goes well, and the patient gets a good understanding and can use the EKA application easily. It proves that the android-based EKA application tested using the SUS questionnaire can be used as a medium for health education and supports medication adherence and self-efficacy.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that often occurs in the world. Individual involvement in self-care is very important, in controlling blood pressure. The inability to carry out treatment will increase the risk and complications. The aim study is to explore the experiences and behavior of self-management and self-care of hypertension patients. The study is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The technique for taking participants was a purposive sampling of ten hypertensive patients. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews and then analyzed thematically based on the methodological framework of constructivist basic theory. Participant statements describing patient experiences in self-care include six themes, namely the cause of recurrences, emotional response, social support, self-care behavior, barriers to self-care, access to health facilities. The support factors of social support from family, health workers, and affordability of health services greatly influence self-care. An adequate support system, especially from nurses, is needed by patients because it will increase active participation so that patients will try to improve their care and skills in self-care.

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) serves as a key indicator for assessing public health at the population level. The infection of children and toddlers with TB often stems from the lack of involvement by family members in adhering to proper hygiene practices aimed at preventing TB transmission. Objective: This study aimed to assess the impact of peer group support and motivational interviewing on parental behaviors in preventing TB transmission among children residing in the same household as a TB patient. Methods: Employing a quasi-experimental design (pre-post test with a single group), this study involved 30 parents selected through accidental sampling. The independent variables included peer group support and motivational interviewing, while the dependent variable was parental behavior concerning TB prevention in children. Data collection utilized a questionnaire assessing parents’ behaviors in preventing TB in children, which was then analyzed using the paired t-test.Results: The implementation of peer group support and motivational interviewing significantly influenced the enhancement of parental behaviors in preventing TB in children (p < 0.001).Conclusion: Both peer group support and motivational interviewing demonstrated their efficacy in altering parental behavior to prevent TB in children residing with a TB patient. These interventions could be effectively incorporated by nurses to complement ongoing tuberculosis treatment therapies.

Abstract

Establishing the correct nursing diagnosis in patients with COVID-19 is crucial for determining the most effective nursing care to help patients recover optimally. The research aims to describe and analyze nursing diagnoses in COVID-19 patients treated in isolation rooms and Intensive Care Units (ICUs). This research used secondary data analysis from 296 hospital medical records of COVID-19 patients at dr. Soegiri Lamongan Hospital from February to August 2021. The researchers employed a simple random sampling technique to collect the data and analyzed it using descriptive statistics. The research revealed that the common symptoms and nursing diagnoses among hospitalized COVID-19 patients included hyperthermia, coughing, shortness of breath, decreased consciousness, ineffective airway clearance, impaired gas exchange, self-care deficit, impaired spontaneous ventilation, spontaneous circulatory disorders, knowledge deficit, and shock risk. The results of this study provide information about variations in nursing diagnoses among COVID-19 patients. Thus, nurses can use this primary data to develop comprehensive standards of nursing care for COVID-19 patients.
