Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of family engagement participation in programs held by the institute of early childhood education. This research is aimed at discovering various family engagement programs in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) unit, supporting factors and barriers to the implementation of the family engagement program, and the benefits of the family engagement program in the ECE unit. The method employed in this research is literature review. Data were collected by studying various journals, books, and other relevant documents from various national and international web. The data analysis technique employed in this research is the MilesHuberman’s model by utilizing stages of analysis process consisting of data reduction, data organization, data display, and data interpretation. The research found that there are some family engagement programs, such as parents meeting to examine the science of parenting, communication development, volunteering in school programs, being involved in decision making, supporting learning at home activities, and collaborating with community. Factors supporting the implementation of the family engagement program in ECE are parents' commitment, solid parent-teacher relationships, parents' awareness, and parents' educational background. On the other hand, factors that become barriers in implementing the program are limited time, limited parents’ financial capability, parents’ low levels of education background, parents’ insecurity, and parents’ lack of understanding of the importance of the program. The benefit of family engagement program perceived by parents is gaining knowledge, information, and confidence in parenting. Furthermore, the program increases children’s performance, learning motivation, discipline, and creates alignment between learning at home and in school

Abstract

This study is motivated by the lack of teacher’s creativity in writing a kid song. A new song evidentially taught to children generally changes merely on the lyric of an existing melody or song. While this activity is carried out repeatedly, it will be boring for children. Therefore, the creativity of teacher is needed in writing a kid song. Accordingly, the atmosphere of music learning could be more enjoyable and attract children’s attention. This study aims to determine the creativity of teacher in writing a kid song based on three categories of creative products; novelty products, resolution products, elaboration and synthesis products. This study used a qualitative approach. The data collection technique carried out by using documentation studies was in the form of kid songs recording from four participant teachers in the RA Songwriting Competition in Bandung Regency. The result of this study shows three points. First, in terms of the novelty aspect, the songs written by the participants were based on their own ideas, instead of the imitations of other people’s works. It could hardly be seen from the specific characteristic of melody, rhythm, and lyric that was different from the existing works. Second, in terms of the resolution aspect, the songs written by the participants could be a solution of the existing problems in accordance with the needs of children. Third, in terms of elaboration and synthesis aspects, the song texts were very communicative, easy to comprehend, and apprehended by the children. As a recommendation, the written songs could be used as a model for delivering learning material in Early Childhood Education

Abstract

Abstract

This paper performs a narrative analysis of the basic philosophy of education book. The book, “becoming critical” was written by Carr and Kemmis (1986). Authors rise up again this old book due to the whole content is essential for educator, students from undergraduate to doctoral level. In simple, the book narrated three basic educational research methodologies among all chapters: technical-theoretical-positivism, practical-interpretative-hermeneutics, and critical-reflection-emancipatory paradigm. Narrative is the central mechanism for meaning making. It is the multiple representations used to reference and make sense of human experience. Dealing with the pros and cons of those paradigms, this paper gives a brief memory to educator in doing research in education. To sum up, this paper illustrated education, knowledge, and action research.

Abstract

Sharenting is a habit of using social media to share content that disseminates pictures, videos, information, and parenting styles for their children. The purpose of this article is to describe the sharenting phenomenon that occurs among young parents, and the importance of parenting programs, rather than protecting children's privacy. Writing articles use a qualitative approach as a literature review method that utilizes various scientific articles describing the sharenting phenomenon in various countries. The findings show that sharenting behaviour can create the spread of children's identity openly on social media and tends not to protect children's privacy and even seems to exploit children. Apart from that, sharenting can also create pressure on the children themselves and can even have an impact on online crime. This article is expected to provide benefits to parents regarding the importance of maintaining attitudes and behaviour when sharing and maintaining children's privacy and rights on social media.
