Abstract

This study was structured with the aim of improving the speaking skills of fourth grade students of elementary school by using the picture and picture learning model. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR), where the teacher is the implementer of learning while the researcher is the observer. The design of this study uses the Kemmis and Mc. Taggart. The subjects of this study were fourth grade students of elementary school which consisted of 20 students. The object of research is students' speaking skills. Data collection techniques using tests and observations. Data were analyzed descriptively and presented in tabular form. The results showed an increase in students' speaking skills, the average value of speaking skills in the first cycle of the first meeting was 64.95 and the second meeting was 68.3. In the second cycle, the average value of speaking skills for the first meeting was 72.35 and the second meeting was 76.9. This means that learning in cycle II has met the indicators of success, so it can be concluded that improving speaking skills using the picture and picture learning model can improve the speaking skills of fourth grade elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Duolingo application on German reading skills of class XI SMA Swab Nommensen Campus Pematangsiantar. The type of this research is an Experimental study with the Pre Experimental type using the One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The population in this study were students of class XI SMA Swab Nommensen Campus Pematangsiantar with a sample of 39 people. Sampling using Cluster Sampling and data collection techniques through test techniques obtained from multiple choice questions. The use of Duolingo in this study went through the pretest and posttest stages. Based on the results of data analysis and the results of the hypotheses tested in this study, it can be seen that there is an effect on students' reading skills before and after the Duolingo application was implemented. The results of the student test assessment on the pretest or before the implementation of the learning media reached an average of 45.78 in the less category. The results of the student test assessment on the posttest or after the implementation of the Duolingo application increased to 87.79 in the good category. Therefore, based on the results of the pretest and posttest, there is a difference in the results of the reading skills of class XI students of SMA Swasta Kampus Nommensen Pematangsiantar before and after implementing the Duolingo application. Based on the analysis of student reading skills data in the pretest and posttest, tcount = 12.01 was obtained at a significance level of 0.05 (95% confidence level) at df = 38, ttable = 1.686 was obtained. Then tcount = 12.01> tcount = 1.686, so it can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, so there is a significant influence between before and after implementing the Duolingo application.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of students' speaking skills through an innovative learning model, namely by using Glasser's learning model. Speaking skills require learners to think creatively and innovatively. Speaking skills in German (Sprechfertigkeit) include linguistic materials and also discuss various forms of conversation/dialogue themes in accordance with themes that intersect with everyday life. Speaking skills are one of the four language skills that need to be instilled so that the communicative abilities of students can be developed optimally. This research was conducted by the German Language Education Study Program at Nommensen HKBP University Pematang Siantar. In this study using experimental method by using initial test and final text. This research procedure was carried out using a quasi experimental design because in this study there were external variables that could not be controlled by the researcher. The subjects of this study were all students of the German Language Education Study Program Semester 3 (three) Nommensen HKBP University Pematang Siantar Academic Year 2023/2024. With data collection techniques is to test the learning outcomes in accordance with the teaching material on learning speaking skills (Sprechfertigkeit). The results of this study indicate that the speaking ability of students by using the Glasser model increases than before. The difference can be seen from the results of data analysis on the pretest, which before the application reached an average of 54.61 classified as a poor category and the results of data analysis on the posttest, which after the application reached an average of 74.44 classified as a good category with a mean difference (D) Ì…) of -19.83. So it can be concluded that the Glasser learning model is proven effective in improving students' speaking skills.

Abstract

Learning English at the high school level often faces various challenges, especially when it comes to attracting students. Based on initial observations at SMA Swasta Indonesia Membangun Medan for the 2023/2024 school year, it was found that many students in grades x2 and x1 felt less interested in learning English. Factors that may cause this lack of interest include material difficulties, lack of relevance of the material to daily life, multiple intelligences of students, teaching style of teachers and techniques of delegators in teaching. The research methodology used is questionnaires, interviews, and data collection. The types of research used are qualitative data and quantitative data. The findings of this study also aim to determine the influence of teachers' teaching styles on students' interest in learning English. Based on the results of research through interviews with teachers, the factors that affect students' lack of interest in learning English are because students have dominance or multiple intelligence in certain fields. And the results of the questionnaire given summarized that students' interest in learning was in the category of quite good, namely 69.03% out of 50 students. And for the delegator teaching style technique, it is done during the group discussion method because in the discussion students can work collaboratively and become teachers with each other

Abstract

This study aims to describe the structure of the fairy tales "Hänsel und Gretel" and "Timun Emas" using Marquaβ's structural theory. The theory used in this study is Marquaβ's structural theory. The data sources for this study are the fairy tales "Hänsel und Gretel" by Brüder Grimm and "Timun Emas" by Rahma Asa. The data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques. The results of this study are as follows: 1) both fairy tales have structures that follow the basic fairy tale pattern with a progressive plot containing conflict, peak tension, and a satisfying resolution. 2) the main characters in both stories have brave and clever characters even though Hänsel and Gretel appear as a duo with complex interactions, while Timun Emas is more prominent as a single, independent character. 3) the dominant setting is a forest which symbolizes trials and changes in fate, while the time setting is symbolic and supports the atmosphere of the story. 4) the point of view used is third person, providing a broad and objective narrative. This study enriches the study of fairy tale structural literature.

Abstract

This study aims to describe: 1) the psychosocial development of the main character, Maik Klingenberg, in Wolfgang Herrndorf's novel Tschick based on Erikson's theory, particularly the stage of identity vs. role confusion, and 2) the factors influencing Maik's identity formation, including family, social environment, and school. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a literary psychology approach. The primary data source was the original German edition of Tschick (2010). Data were collected using the reading-and-note-taking technique and analyzed through classification according to Erikson's psychosocial indicators. The findings reveal that Maik experiences an identity crisis characterized by social role confusion, feelings of alienation, and emotional instability. Through his journey with Tschick, Maik undergoes a process of identity exploration that includes trying new roles, developing independence, and engaging in self-reflection. Eventually, Maik reaches a more mature stage of identity formation. This research contributes to the interdisciplinary study of literature and psychology, and provides practical implications for character education, especially

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas media Genially terhadap keterampilan menulis bahasa Jerman siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 5 Pematang Siantar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu Kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian Pre-eksperimental dan desain penelitian One Group Pretest-Posttest. Populasi penelitian seluruh siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 5 Pematang Siantar sebanyak 169 Orang. Berdasarkan Teknik Purposive Sampling yang artinya sederhana karena teknik pengambilan sampel yang dilakukan dengan pertimbangan tertentu dan sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI-8 berjumlah 32 Orang. Adapun teknik pengumpulan data yaitu berupa essai tes dengan melakukan tahap pretest, treatment dengan menerapkan media Genially dan posttest maka dihasilkan data penelitian. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan yang telah dikemukakan diperoleh data nilai pretest dengan nilai rata- rata 33,18 yang tergolong dalam kategori rendah. Setelah diberikan perlakuan hasil belajar siswa meningkat, hal ini dapat di lihat dari rata-rata nilai posttest yaitu 82,03. Berdasarkan hasi uji hipotesis dengan taraf signifikan = 0,05 dan ttabel sebesar 1.69. Dengan demikian thitung >ttabel 38,823 > 1,69 maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat efektivitas media Genially terhadap keterampilan menulis siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 5 Pematang Siantar. Kemudian berdasarkan skor persen N-Gain yaitu 73,28 %. Yang artinya media Genially efektiv terhadap keterampilan menulis siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 5 Pematang Siantar

Abstract

This study aims to identify 1) Idiom in Epistolary novel ,, Die Leiden des jungen Werthers” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe 2) Idioms translation techniques that used from epstolary novel ,,Die Leiden des jungen Werthers” to the roman Indonesian translation “Penderitaan Pemuda Werther”. Theory that used in this research is Higi-Wydler’s Idiom translation technique theory. The data source in this research is Epistolary novel ,, Die Leiden des jungen Werthers” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the Indonesian translation in “Penderitaan Pemuda Werther” translate by Moh. Godjali Harun. The data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques. The results of this study are as follows: there were 61 idioms that found in Epistolary novel ,,Die Leiden des jungen Werthers”, which of 60 idioms translated using idiom translation technique Null-Äquivalenz; 1 idiom was tranlated using idiom translation technique Partielle-Äquivalenz; no idioms were found that translated using idiom translation technique Totalle-Äquivalenz.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam memanfaatkan lagu sebagai media pembelajaran menyimak di tingkat sekolah dasar dan menengah. Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi mitra adalah rendahnya variasi media pembelajaran menyimak, kurangnya pemahaman guru terhadap strategi pembelajaran menyimak yang terstruktur, serta rendahnya motivasi dan keterlibatan siswa saat kegiatan menyimak berlangsung. Solusi yang ditawarkan berupa sosialisasi edukatif dan bimbingan teknis pemanfaatan lagu dalam pembelajaran menyimak, yang meliputi pemahaman konseptual, praktik penyusunan skenario pembelajaran. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan secara partisipatif melalui tahap persiapan, sosialisasi, bimbingan teknis, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman guru tentang pembelajaran menyimak berbasis lagu, kemampuan guru menyusun perangkat pembelajaran. Dengan demikian, penggunaan lagu terbukti menciptakan pembelajaran menyimak yang lebih menarik, kontekstual, dan sesuai dengan karakteristik siswa
