The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. Data collection methods that will be used in this study include (a) assignment methods (b) observation, (c) interviews, (d) questionnaires, (e) evaluation methods. Data analysis techniques used in this study are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions. The results show that learning multicultural-based fictional stories (tales, dramas, and novels) has been effective in increasing the awareness of bilingual students at SMA Taman Rama Jimbaran towards cultural diversity. Students are able to understand cultural values, such as local traditions, morality, and social dynamics that reflect cultural diversity. Students' ability to understand the fictional stories given depends on the level and background of the students. Students with a Balinese cultural background and understand Indonesian tend to find it easier to understand the contents of the text than students outside of Balinese culture. Students who are at a lower level, some are not yet able to express their thoughts well, and the use of vocabulary is less diverse. Teachers use a variety of approaches according to grade level, such as visual media, group discussions, and rewards to increase student engagement. These strategies have successfully strengthened students' literacy skills and their awareness of multicultural values.

Abstract

The primary objectives of this research were to identify the dominant patterns of acronyms and abbreviations, analyze the linguistic and social factors underlying their usage, and evaluate the impact of this phenomenon on the effectiveness, clarity, and communication norms among Generation Z in Bali. The research employed a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, involving 450 respondents aged 13-28 years. The research findings indicated a high prevalence of acronyms and abbreviations in Gen Z's communication. The ten most dominant acronyms, such as "baper" (16.1%), "pansos" (12.6%), and "bucin" (11.2%), not only serve an efficiency function but also possess rich pragmatic implications. Similarly, abbreviations like "yg" (18.7%), "udah" (16.3%), and "ga" (15.1%) are frequently used, reflecting a strong preference for typing efficiency. Analysis also revealed that code-mixing occurred in 68.3% of the conversations examined, with lexical insertion (75.2%) being the most dominant type. The primary motivations behind these linguistic adaptations include a strong drive for communicative efficiency (saving typing time), the need to construct identity and foster in-group affiliation, and aspirations towards modernity and globalization.

Abstract

Sociolinguistics in education is a complex and multidisciplinary field of study that explores the intricate relationship between language, society, and educational processes. It seeks to understand how social factors such as culture, class, ethnicity, and gender influence language use in educational settings, and conversely, how language practices shape social experiences within those contexts. This article aims to conduct a critical analysis of sociolinguistics in education by examining its fundamental concepts, key objects of study, methodological approaches, and the practical benefits it offers to educators and learners alike. Utilizing a critical analysis method, the article investigates how sociolinguistic insights can inform more inclusive, equitable, and effective teaching practices. It also highlights the importance of recognizing language variation and linguistic diversity in classrooms to promote better communication and understanding among students from different social backgrounds. Furthermore, the article underscores that sociolinguistics in education contributes not only to improved pedagogical strategies but also to broader educational policies that value multiculturalism and multilingualism. Ultimately, the study concludes that integrating sociolinguistic perspectives into education can significantly enhance the quality of learning and foster more socially responsive educational environments.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the urgency of transmitting traditional shrimp paste (petis udang) enterprises as a form of local culture based education from an ethnopedagogical perspective. The research was conducted at the Bawang Merah shrimp paste enterprise in Muncar District, Banyuwangi Regency, which continues to employ traditional production methods and actively involves family members and the coastal community. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with four groups of informants (the enterprise owner, the owner’s child, workers, and community leaders), and documentation. Data analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and verification, using content analysis, discourse analysis, and interpretative analysis. The findings reveal that the shrimp paste enterprise functions as a non-formal educational space where local knowledge, life skills, and character values such as hard work, patience, responsibility, discipline, and mutual cooperation are transmitted through learning by doing. The inheritance process occurs naturally through role modeling, gradual participation, and collective work interactions, reflecting core principles of ethnopedagogy and cultural enculturation. Nevertheless, the study also identifies potential dysfunctions, particularly limited adaptation to socio-economic changes and a lack of innovation that may affect younger generations’ interest in continuing the enterprise. This research underscores that traditional shrimp paste enterprises serve not only economic purposes but also play a strategic role as local culture–based learning systems that contribute to character formation, cultural identity, and the sustainability of coastal traditions
