Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a system that is developed and continues to innovate in various fields with the aim of making human work easier. As the name suggests, artificial intelligence is made to resemble human intelligence and is applied in various fields. Currently Artificial Intelligence technology is also used in the field of education, including teaching foreign languages. This article, which is based on a short field study, aims to find out student references regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in English Language Teaching (ELT) can be seen as both a benefit and a potential threat, depending on how it is used and implemented. On the one hand, AI technology has the potential to make language learning more efficient and effective, by providing personalized feedback and practice exercises tailored to the different student’s needs and learning styles. The research method used to determine this phenomenon is a qualitative descriptive research method with questionnaire data collection techniques by asking questions that can be answered directly by respondents according to their respective answers. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to play an important role in helping students in various tasks in learning English, i.e finding out the the meaning and definition of words, translating sentences, improving grammar, etc with reliable and timely results. However, on the other hand, AI has an impact on student abilities. Students are increasingly dependent on AI assistance in learning, thereby reducing its role in critical thinking and using memory

Abstract

Learning English is a mandatory subject and must be followed from elementary school to university level in accordance with the ongoing training plan in Indonesia. Students have difficulty mastering a new language, especially English, and teachers who are not native English speakers make it difficult for students to master it. As a result, some of the examples presented may be due to human error. It is accepted that changing English language learning through learning media will reduce weaknesses, difficulties in understanding learning and reduce human errors. This procedure includes media as an instrument to develop learning, one of which is through games, slides and interesting pictures. According to the instructions at each level of learning, this technique further develops learning for students. Apart from that, students are also enthusiastic about learning, can make coordinated efforts more easily between students, the environment and reality and are enthusiastic about progressing independently according to their respective abilities and interests.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing language learning, with a focus on five key applications: automatic text analysis, personalized learning, adaptive feedback, language error detection, and automatic translation. The study addresses the challenge of integrating AI effectively in educational contexts while balancing technological potential with pedagogical guidance. The objective is to provide a comprehensive understanding of how AI tools contribute to more adaptive, efficient, and engaging language learning experiences. A systematic literature review method was employed, selecting and critically analyzing studies published between 2020 and 2025 that examined AI-assisted language learning strategies. The findings indicate that automatic text analysis supports comprehension monitoring and guided learning, while personalized learning adapts content to individual learner needs, enhancing motivation and retention. Adaptive feedback delivers immediate, targeted guidance that fosters accuracy and self-regulated learning, and language error detection tools enable learners to identify and correct grammatical and lexical mistakes, promoting metalinguistic awareness. Automatic translation broadens access to authentic texts and cross-cultural materials, supporting comprehension and independent learning. Synthesizing these findings highlights the transformative potential of AI to improve learning outcomes while also revealing challenges such as tool reliability, ethical considerations, and the need for teacher oversight. The study concludes that AI, when thoughtfully integrated, complements instruction, enhances learner engagement, and supports differentiated and data-driven teaching strategies, providing valuable insights for language educators and guiding future research on AI-enabled language learning.

Abstract

The development of automatic translation (machine translation/MT) technologies, such as Google Translate and DeepL, as well as applications based on generative artificial intelligence (AI), has brought significant changes to translation practice. While TM facilitates access to cross-language texts, it also presents new challenges in teaching translation. This article aims to examine the challenges and strategies for teaching translation in the era of automation through a literature review. The method used is a literature review of journal articles, books, and conference proceedings published between 2015 and 2025 that are relevant to translation pedagogy, student perceptions, and the ethical implications of using TM. The review identifies seven key challenges: declining student motivation to learn manual translation, the changing role of lecturers to evaluators and post-editors, difficulties in assessing the authenticity of student work, issues of ethics and academic integrity, the need for curriculum adaptation, differences in the quality of TM across languages, and resistance to and over-reliance on TM. Strategies proposed include integrating post-editing into the curriculum, process-based assessment, ethical education in the use of TM, critical learning by comparing human and machine translation results, and translation training for low-resource languages. This article concludes that lecturers play a role not only as teachers of translation techniques but also as facilitators of digital literacy and academic ethics. Recommendations are provided for further empirical research to validate this strategy in the local context of higher education.
