Abstract

Monitoring shoreline changes is important in detecting abrasion and accretion in coastal areas. This study aimed to determine the level of shoreline change caused by abrasion and accretion and estimate the change rate. The study area covers coastal areas in ten Districts in Biak Numfor Regency (only on Biak Island). Six Landsat image datasets (1997, 2002, 2007, 2013, 2018, and 2022) were used to determine the coastline. Shoreline changes were analysed using DSAS software. The results of digitising the shoreline show a change in the length of the shoreline during the six data periods. Based on NSM and EPR for the last ten years (2013-2022), the average shoreline changes due to abrasion range from -6.65 to -13.16 m with an abrasion rate of -0.76 to -1.50 m/year. Meanwhile, the average shoreline changes due to accretion ranged from 4.64 to 8.45 m with an accretion rate of 0.53 m/year to 0.96 m/year. Changes in shoreline based on the rate of abrasion and accretion vary greatly in each district along the coastal area of Biak Numfor Regency, depending on the EPR value of each transect. Spatially, high abrasion and very high abrasion are widely distributed in Oridek, Biak Utara, Swandiwe, and Warsa Districts. Medium and high accretion were found in Yawosi, Bindifuar, and Oridek Districts. Because there has been a change in the coastline due to abrasion, planning efforts to mitigate coastal areas are very necessary.

Abstract

The study about the activity of the enzyme amylase from amylolytic bacterial isolates from wet sagoo starch and  its traditional provision environment had been done in Jayapura. The purposes of this study were to determine the activity of amylase enzyme and to identify the bacteria isolated from wet sagoo starch and its processing environment in Jayapura district. The method used was an experimental laboratorium in which isolation of amylolytic bacteria was performed by using nutrient agar medium with 1% soluble starch on spreed pour plate method. The enzyme activity was detected with 0.2% iodine in 2% potassium iodide which were able to form a clear zone. The protein content of the crude enzyme extract was determined by the Bradford method using bovine serum albumin (BSA). Amylase enzyme activity was determined by the formula: DUN/ml = [(R0-R1)/R0] [dilution factor] DUN/ml (dextrinizing units per ml). The results showed that there were 15 isolates amylolytic bacteria. Four (4) bacterial isolates have amylolytic power of more than 30 mm. The amilase activity of amylolytic bacterial of all  isolates were quite high: which were 35 577, 18 903,  32 106 and 46 600 U/mg for SU4, SU13, SU23 and SU40 respectively. The identification of isolates indicated that the three isolates are members of the Bacillus cereus ATCC 14 579 types with a similarity value of 71.70% to 81.10%, and one isolate is Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6501 members with a similarity value of 94.30%. Keywords: Amylolytic bacteria, amylase activity, characterization, sago flour.

Abstract

The abundance of plankton plays a very important role in determining the fertility of waters as a primary producer in waters. The abundance of plankton in water is generally related to the nutrient content in the water. This study aims to analyze the fertility level of Merauke sea waters based on the abundance of plankton and physical-chemical conditions in Merauke sea waters. Water samples were taken at 25 stations using water samples. showed that the abundance of plankton in Merauke seawater was high. The abundance of phytoplankton varied from 4,047,547 – 1,053.078 ind/m3/station. The dominating group is the Bacilliophyceae, the diversity index (H') is low <1, the uniformity is almost 0, the dominance index is low, while zooplankton is also classified as high with an abundance ranging from 5,500 – 460,281 ind/m3/ station Physical and chemical conditions of sea water such as temperature including homogeneous, namely between 25.950 – 27.580 C, low brightness 0 – 2 m, high turbidity 2.89 – 730 NTU, pH is homogeneous between 7.06 – 8.11, very high DO is between 8.00 – 9.55 mg/L . while the nutrient in the form of phosphate is quite high

Abstract

The increase in population in recent years has affected the utilization of facilities and infrastructure, including the use of vehicles. For the past 10 years, the population in Papua has increased by around 4.13% per year, resulting in the need for daily mobility to increase. The high mobility demand in Papua could affect the increase in pollution, thus affecting the air quality. Exposure to pollutants in ambient air and environmental noise in the long term will have an impact on human health. Therefore, in this study, we analyze the current conditions of air pollution parameters in several major cities in Papua, such as Jayapura, Merauke, Sentani, and Timika. The method used is a survey. Environmental parameters measured were air content of SO2, NO3, PM 10, PM 2.5, HC, O3, CO, dust, Pb, noise, and The Air Pollutant Standard Index (ISPU) value. Observational data obtained were analyzed and displayed using the ArcGIS program. The parameters for determining the location of sampling points are densely packed highway areas, industrial areas, residential areas, and offices. The results of the study indicated that the ambient air quality in all study sites is below the required quality standard. While the results of environmental noise that exceed the highest quality standards located in specifics area on each study site are as follows, Merauke at PLTD Merauke I PT. PLN Persero with 81.24 dB(A), Sentani at Sentani City Square Roads with 70.2 dB (A), Mimika at Perumahan Pemda SP-2 with 65.30 dB(A), and Sentani at Kantor Bupati Jayapura with 64, 54 dB (A). However, the ISPU value for pollutant substances is still in the range of 0-50, which means that the air quality category is very good to carry any outdoor activities, and does not have any negative impact on humans, animals, or plants.Key words: air quality; noice; ISPU; Papua.
