Abstract

The conversion of forests to non-forests by communities has resulted in the loss of forest ecosystems and a reductionin the area of land that can be utilized for nature tourism at Menumbing Mountain Grand Forest Park (MMGFP).Revegetation is needed by planting several types of forest vegetation that generate economic benefits for the communityas well as attracting natural tourism in MMGFP utilization block such as durian (Durio zibethinus Murr.) and rambutan(Nephelium lappaceum L.). It is necessary to evaluate utilization block to ensure that both species grow well andproductivity of fruits have optimal yield. This study aims to obtain recommendations for improvements of the land qualityalong with the suitable characteristics to be limiting the growth of durian and rambutan. Suitability evaluation of durianand rambutan refers to the land suitability classification criteria compiled by Indonesian Center for Agricultural LandResources Research and Development by matching the growth requirements of both types with land utilization blockcharacteristics. Durian and rambutan are considered to be marginally suitable (S3) for planting in most land utilizationblock. The limiting factor of durian and rambutan is rooting medium, i.e texture and nutrient retention, comprising pH ororganic carbon (C-organic). The texture of the soil can not be modified because it is permanent. Soil pH can beincreased through liming. The soil C-organic content can be increased through the application of organic fertilizer. Afterboth efforts are made, the planted durian and rambutan are likely to grow well and productivity of the fruit will beoptimal so that revegetation in the utilization block will be successful and problems faced in MMGFP will be solved.Key words: Liming, marginally suitable, organic fertilizer, revegetation

Abstract

Reclamation activities should be carried out after mining operation for restoring and improving the function of the land to be in better condition and productive (P.60/Menhut-II/2009). This research aims to analyze the status of the success of revegetation, based on growth ability and performance of A. mangium plants at PT Jorong Barutama Greston Block M1W; to recommend improvements for the land and plants; and to identify the cause of revegetation failure. The results of this research indicated that status of the revegetation success at Block M1W have not been categorized as successful category. The success rate were considered from the average growth percentage and health level of plants which were less than 60% (score 1, bad performance), namely 59.38% and 50.01% respectively. The improvement that could be done were soil amendment and the use of plants which are resistant to poor environment. The plants have to be resistant to acid soil and high content of heavy metal. The main causes of revegetation failure were site condition which were not conducive for A. mangium plant growth and lack of plant maintenance. This was the cause of bad plant growth performance. Besides that, Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) on revegetation activities need to be improved and plant maintenance should be enhanced, particularly those related with pest and disease control.Key words: A. mangium, evaluation, post coal mining, revegetation

Abstract

The environment is a complex system where various factors affect on the plant community in the forest. This theory should be proven by study of the influence of environmental factors to the vegetation of forest stands. This study aimed to analyze the effect of environmental factors, particularly edaphic factors such as soil physical and chemical properties to the vegetation and to examine the effect of edaphic variations to the vegetation variation of Pinus merkusii stands on the plot of 163, Dramaga Forest Research, Bogor. The sample of soil were disturbed sample and undisturbed sample taken by systematic sampling method. There was a tendency that the greater the properties of soil the better the vegetation growth in terms of height and diameter of pine tree. However, that effect was not significant due to the great durability of P. merkusii against marginal soil condition. The soil properties must be supported by other factors such as shading so that the two factors are able to manage the optimal growth of pine trees and maintain the function of forest. Abstract

Global warming is a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere caused by the increased volumes of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Greenhouse gases is trapped inside the atmosphere and caused UV radiation difficulty passing through Earth’s atmosphere, a processed is often referred to as the greenhouse effect. Reclamation and revegetation activities were expected could decrease the greenhouse effect. The aims of the research is to estimate total carbon stock in Pine Forest age 2005 or 11 years and 2012 or 4 years, and also to compare the result with former research in post mining revegetation site PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk. Biomass measurement of trees, poles, and saplings is conducted with non-destructive methods meanwhile biomass measurements of understorey, litter, and necromassa used destructive methods. The result showed that the value of biomass and carbon stock on the 2005 pine stand is acquired 75.31 tons/ha and 35.39 tons/ha. The value of the biomass and carbon stock on the 2012 pine stand is acquired 12.72 tons/ha and 5.98 ton/ha or increased from the previous year's measurement. Abstract

Spatial plan is the result of spatial planning which is done through the process and procedure of arranging and determining based on the prevailing laws and regulations. The phenomenon that often happens is the deviation of existing land use with spatial plan. Sumedang Regency is experiencing a fairly rapid development, so there is an increase in human resource activity that implicate the widespread space needs and consequently deviation of land use is very vulnerable. The purpose of this study to determine the extent of deviation of land use occurs as well as what factors affect the occurence of irregular use of land. The analysis used in this study using GIS approach, Principal Component Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis. The result of analysis shows that there are 25 types of deviation of existing land use and the most dominant is deviation into wetland (18,364 ha), dryland field (8,405 ha) and widened land (7,741 ha). While the factors that influence the occurence of deviation of land use are population and settlement, availability of land, infrastructure and accessibility, and sosioeconomic condition of society
