Abstract

The Phenomenon of Feminization of Indonesian Workers has placed women in strategic positions in the family. One reason is the number of economic and social remittances they have. The great number of remittances requires the optimization of the utilization of remittances through economic and social entrepreneurship. The success of strengthening this Retiring Female Indonesian Workers is a strategic matter. In the long run, there will be an increase in the quality of life of the Indonesian workers’ households. However, this study proves that Remitan and the social (network) of retiring women do not necessarily increase or strengthen their economic roles. The articulation of the roles and position of retiring female Indonesian workers (migrants) in the family and community in developing businesses (social and economic entrepreneurship) lacks significant influence. Why has the entrepreneurship of retiring female workers failed to be achieved? This study with the anthropological approach to migration proves that there are three important factors that influence it, i.e.the low capacity of female migrants to using the accumulation of income while working abroad and the internal conditions of family gender relations, and the low facilitation capacity of institutions/agencies for social change towards migrant families.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused acute non-health impacts for various levels of society, including young families in rural areas of Java. This study presents the results of research that focus on the experiences of young families who work in the informal sector in overcoming the economic impacts due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The young families in this study were those who got married less than 10 years and/or had the oldest child aged less than 10 years. By using an anthropological approach and applying data collection method through participatory observations and in-depth interviews, this study concluded that there were two factors that made them be the most vulnerable group, yet they could face economic emergencies at the same time, such as first, their ability to optimize social capital to increase their own capacity and their family’s capacity in the face of economic vulnerability. They did productive economic activities by optimizing very limited work networks to survive their life. Second, they carefully performed minimal income management so that they could survive and fulfill the minimum household needs as a household unit.

Abstract

A Study of CO2 Absorption Using Jet Bubble Column. The phenomenon of plunging jet gas-liquid contact occurs quite often in nature, it's momentum carries small air bubbles with it into the reactor medium. The momentum of the liquid stream can be sufficient to carry small bubbles completely to the bottom of the vessel. A stream of liquid falling toward a level surface of that liquid will pull the surrounding air along with it. It will indent the surface of the liquid to form a trumpet-like shape. If the velocity of the stream is high enough, air bubbles will be pulled down, i.e. entrained into the liquid. This happens for two main reasons: air that is trapped between the edge of the falling stream and the trumpet-shaped surface profile and is carried below the surface. This study investigates the potential of a vertical liquid plunging jet for a pollutant contained gas absorption technique. The absorber consists of liquid jet and gas bubble dispersed phase. The effects of operating variables such as liquid flowrate, nozzle diameter, separator pressure, etc. on gas entrainment and holdup were investigated. The mass transfer of the system is governed by the hydrodynamics of the system. Therefore a clear and precise understanding of the above is necessary : to characterize liquid and gas flow within the system, 2. Variation in velocity of the jet with the use of different nozzle diameters and flow rates, 3. Relationship between the liquid and entrained airflow rate, 4. Gas entrainment rate and gas void fraction.

Abstract

Conditional cash transfers in Indonesia is better known as the Keluarga Harapan Program (PKH). This program offers aid to poor members of society and is intended to break the poverty cycle through education and healthcare. This aid is granted continuously, with certain conditions that must be met by recipients. The question is to what extent usage patterns are linked to the program's conditioning and its social function for recipients, and how local contexts influence the program's institutional and functional conditioning. This conditioning and usage patterns cannot be separated from the social, ecological, and economic conditions of the local community. After making the desire changes to social welfare, this aid has other effects, particularly as related to social aspects. These involve the usage patterns and strategies of aid recipients in adapting the aid programs implemented by the government for community members who live in poverty. As such, this article is hoped to provide a better understanding and ease interpretation of the topic. Data for this research was collected from four villages in East Nusa Tenggara using qualitative methods (observation, interviews, FGDs) and an MSC approach.

Abstract

Over the past decade, a shift has occurred in the Sedulur Sikep community’s attitude since the increase in its popularity and coverage in the mass media following its involvement in the anti-cement movement in Central Java. However, not all members of Sedulur Sikep participate in or even approve of this movement. This anthropological study attempts to illustrate how this situation has pushed the Sikep community members to (re)recognize their values, the influence of these values on environmental discourse, and how the relations between them are understood and practiced by Sedulur Sikep and the movement fighting in its name. By examining the adaptability of ecological knowledge and the ordering of visible space as a result of complex interactions between nature and nurture, it is possible to examine the shifts in their understanding of environmental dynamics and their cultural identity. The ‘fragmentation’ that has occurred is rooted in different understandings of the reciprocal bonds between the Sedulur Sikep’s tani mligi identity and natural resources. The dynamics and stagnation seen in how Sedulur Sikep positions itself in relation to cement production is also apparent in various methods of (re)interpretation, particularly regarding the relevance of Sedulur Sikep’s beliefs to its ecological contestation and struggle for living space.

Abstract

The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry recently issued a 35-year permit-based social forestry, called Izin Pemanfaatan Hutan Perhutanan Sosial (IPHPS), which was implemented in forestlands managed by the State Forest Corporation (SFC). IPHPS is a unique scheme because social forestry permits were previously granted on forestland unencumbered with rights. It provides more secure tenure rights (long-term permits), greater decision-making authority, and improved profit-sharing arrangements compared with the SFC’s co-management model. However, IPHPS has not attracted widespread interest from local communities. This paper aims to identify and to analyse factors that explain local communities’ low interest in the policy. Results show that local communities have not been attracted by the scheme because it requires them to undertake substantial investments in reforestation and make several payments to the government beyond their means. This paper highlights the specific challenges related to access mechanisms and benefits to local communities from the granted rights. Lastly, local communities were prone to manipulative persuasion by the SFC to continue the co-management model.
