Abstract

Abstract

Procrastination has long been regarded as reflection of low self-control. The emergence of temporal motivation theory (TMT) as a theoretical framework to explain procrastination also supports the role of self-control in bringing forth procrastination. This study aimed to test the suitability of TMT in explaining correlational pattern of self-control and procrastination, both in general and in thesis completion. Subjects were 157 psychology students working on their thesis. The results show that self-control has a negative correlation with general procrastination (r = -0.663) and thesis (r=-0.504). The role of TMT’s elements as mediators has been proven when the negative correlations weakened significantly after controlling for TMT elements. Nevertheless, a greater attenuation was actually found when self-control was used as the mediator variable. Alleged causes and implications of the findings are discussed. Abstract

This study aims to explore the potential of applying rectal exploration (ER) techniques to goats for practical purposes. The principle of pregnancy detection in this technique is based on palpable gestational changes in the goat's reproductive tract in terms of location, consistency, and size. This study used 6 female goats aged 2-3 years with normal reproductive cycles and had given birth and one fertile male goat at the age of 2-3 years. Mating was carried out naturally. Previously, female goats had been in estrus synchronization with a double injection of prostaglandin 1.5 ml/head each intramuscularly with an interval of 11 days. Pregnancy tests were carried out at 30, 40, 50, and 60 days after mating using Real-Time B-Mode Ultrasonography (USG) and ER techniques. In this study, ultrasound was used as the gold standard because this method is more accurate and reliable for the diagnosis of pregnancy in small ruminants. The diagnostics observed in this study were the sensitivity and specificity of the ER technique for diagnosing pregnancy in goats compared to the gold standard. The results showed that four goats that were negatively pregnant with the ER technique also showed that they were not pregnant on ultrasound on all days of the examination stage, and two goats that were positive for pregnancy with ultrasound showed positive pregnancy with the ER technique on examination 50 and 60 days after mating. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the ER technique can be used for an alternative pregnancy diagnosis in goats that is practical in the field.

Abstract

This research delves into the pivotal role of quality management in sustaining organic vegetable production, underscoring its profound connection to consumer satisfaction and subsequent impact on purchasing decisions. Within the organic market, predominantly catering to the upper to middle-class demographic in Batu, East Java, Indonesia, consumer preferences dictate heightened product specifications and, consequently, necessitate a focus on quality. To fortify market presence, this study advocates for the direct involvement of organic farmers throughout the entire production-to-marketing continuum, transforming them into not just cultivators but entrepreneurs. In the face of escalating competition, product quality emerges as a paramount subsystem requiring prioritization. The study employs the quality function method for planning and developing pertinent organic vegetable products aligned with consumer interests, identifying areas for improvement. The primary objective is to ascertain consumer demands and devise corrective measures to augment satisfaction. Employing the online survey method, participants were limited to consumers who had purchased organic vegetable products from Batu-based farmers in East Java at least twice. Analyzing the data revealed that consumer prioritized quality attributes encompassed vegetable cleanliness, product pricing, and ease of accessibility. Notably, technical interventions such as the implementation of Good Handling Practices, Internal Control System (ICS), and enhancing service quality during organic vegetable cultivation significantly influenced consumer interest attributes, fostering heightened satisfaction. This study contributes valuable insights for organic farmers and stakeholders seeking to optimize product quality in response to evolving consumer demands.

Abstract

Academic achievement is important for students and its achievement is influenced by various factors. One of them is task commitment. Task commitment is generally measured in gifted students. However, the authors believe that all students require commitment in the learning process and achieving academic achievement. This study aims to determine the differences in sex or gender perspectives in task commitment and academic achievement of Junior High School students in Indonesia, utilizing a cross-sectional research method on Grade 7 and Grade 8 students (N = 403). Measurement of task commitment utilizes an instrument developed by Sánchez-Escobedo. The results of the study showed no relationship between academic achievement and task commitment in general (r = .040; p = .418). However, there were interesting results related to perseverance as a single aspect (r = .130; p = .009), because it had a relationship with academic achievement in total and in Mathematics, Science subjects, and the results of regression analysis in male students (F = 3.083; p = 0.017). The results of the study also showed that there was a difference in academic achievement between male and female students (t(count) = 3.741; p = .000), but there was no significant difference in task commitment (t(count) = 0.557; p = .578). In this study, perseverance had a more significant relationship with academic achievement. The difference in academic achievement between male and female students indicates that there is something related to sex or gender that still needs to be studied further, in addition to task commitment.
