Abstract

Poverty causes families to be unable to meet the needs of adequate housing for themselves and their families. Not everyone is able to meet their housing needs for economic reasons. One of the basic human needs is a house in the context of decentralized housing provision. Currently, there is no housing provision system in the regions that is responsive to developing needs. This is due to the lack of developed understanding that housing is also a public matter apart from being an individual matter. The aim of implementing the House Renovation Program is targeting poor people who have uninhabitable houses. The house renovation program has had an impact on poverty alleviation in Gowa District, Makassar. Community Service Activities (PKM) by the Indonesian Teachers and Lecturers Association in collaboration with IKAT Japan South Sulawesi as a form of improving the problem of poverty for our underprivileged brothers and sisters with a house renovation program. Apart from alleviating the problem of poverty through this house renovation program, it is hoped that those who receive Mr. Ridwan's assistance will be helped by comfortable accessibility with their families.

Abstract

Various drug-related problems can be caused by the community's lack of understanding about the use and proper handling of drugs. Providing education on how to use special drugs such as ear drops is very important because there are critical points in ear drops, especially in the method of instillation. Providing incomplete and unclear information on how to use drugs will result in less than optimal therapy so that the drug will not achieve the desired therapeutic effect. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge about how to use ear drops properly. This service is carried out by providing information through leaflets and explaining directly to the community. Providing education on how to administer ear drops to the community received a good response because most people do not know how to use them properly. The presence of 36 participants and the participants who attended were very enthusiastic in listening to the explanation and actively asked questions related to the use of ear drops and their handling. This can support the realization of government programs in improving health services for the community. This counseling received significant results. Therefore, the PkM TEAM hopes that with this counseling, it can share information about the correct use and handling of ear drops with their family members.

Abstract

Waste management in boarding school environments, such as Pondok Tahfizh Al-Qur’an Daarul Furqon Palopo, faces significant challenges due to the accumulation of organic waste, which can negatively impact health and the environment. Therefore, systematic interventions are necessary to empower students in waste management using efficient and eco-friendly methods, such as Takakura composting. This community service initiative aims to enhance students' knowledge and skills in organic waste management through education, training, and mentoring, supported by pre- and post-tests to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. The program involved 41 participants aged 12-19, primarily junior high school students. The results demonstrated a significant increase in knowledge following the intervention, with 85.4% of participants classified as having moderate knowledge before the education, and 100% achieving a good level of knowledge after the training. The Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.00, indicating a significant impact of the education and training provided. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Takakura-based composting in boarding schools is crucial for maintaining environmental cleanliness and empowering students to adopt eco-friendly practices. Sustainable waste management in boarding school environments can be achieved through intensive education and training, engaging students as agents of change.

Abstract

Minor head injuries and sprains are two types of injuries that frequently occur in the home, especially among vulnerable age groups such as toddlers and the elderly. Lack of public knowledge regarding the initial treatment of these injuries can result in delayed medical intervention and increase the risk of complications. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to educate families on how to recognize, assess, and administer first aid for minor head injuries and sprains at home. The activity methods included interactive counseling, first aid simulations, discussions, and the distribution of educational media in the form of leaflets. The activity was conducted in Tamasaju Village, Takalar Regency, and involved 45 participants, consisting of parents of toddlers and family members caring for the elderly. Evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge and skills in independently managing minor injuries. This activity is expected to increase family preparedness and reduce the risk of adverse effects from untreated injuries.

Abstract

Background: Posyandu (Integrated Health Post for the Elderly) is a preventive and promotive health service aimed at improving the quality of life of the elderly. However, attendance rates for the elderly are still relatively low. One factor influencing elderly compliance is social support from family, peers, and the surrounding environment. Objective: To determine the effect of social support on elderly compliance in participating in the Posyandu program. Methods: This study used a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 92 elderly people was selected using a purposive sampling technique in the working area of Community Health Center X. The instrument used was a social support and compliance questionnaire, which had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using binary logistic regression. Results: The majority of respondents (71.7%) had high social support, and 65.2% of elderly people were classified as compliant in attending Posyandu. Statistical tests showed that social support significantly influenced elderly compliance (p = 0.001; OR = 3.45). Conclusion: Social support significantly influences elderly compliance in participating in Posyandu activities. Recommendation: Enhancing the role of families and cadres in providing emotional, informational, and practical support is crucial for increasing elderly participation.
