Abstract

Background: Most of dental implants are accompanied by guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedures. Collagen membrane which is the most widely used type of membrane in the GBR procedure has the disadvantage of not having antimicrobial properties, old bone formation, easy to tear, and soft so that it does not maintain the dimensions of the augmentation area. Bombyx mori L. fibroin has good mechanical properties and has the potential to be used as a pharmaceutical material that is biocompatible, antimicrobial, and stimulates bone growth. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of Bombyx mori L. fibroin coating on the mechanical properties of collagen membranes. Method: The samples consisted of the control group (group A) and the treatment group, the collagen membrane was coated using the Bombyx mori L dip-coating fibroin technique, namely group B (1 time coating process), group C (2 times coating process) and group D (3 times the coating process). Statistical analysis used one-way ANOVA (p

Abstract

Background: Pulp tissue can regenerate if damage occurs. The pulp differentiates into new odontoblast-like cells in Progenitor cells. Nestin is a marker of the presence of new dontoblast-like and expressed in pathological conditions. Bovine's milk casein and lactoferrin contain proteins that accelerate cell growth. This study aimed to determine the effect of casein and lactoferrin on the expression of nested cells in the exposed dental pulp.Method: The research method is an experimental laboratory with male 30 Spraque Dawley rats. Rats were grouped as : casein, lactoferrin, casein-lactoferrin, and Ca-(OH)2. Each group consisted of 15 samples of molars which were divided into 5 samples of teeth for observation on the 7, 14, and 21 days. The first molars of rats were prepared until the pulp was exposed. The data of nestin quantity with immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis on histological preparations were analyzed using two-way ANOVA then the least significance difference (LSD) test.Result: The results of the average number of nested cells on 7,14 and 21 days were highest on combination of casein and lactoferrin. Two-way ANOVA statistical proved that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) in each observation period and group and the number of expressions of nestin cells. LSD test showed that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) between groups compared to the control group. Conclusion: Combination casein and lactoferrin extracts affect the expression of the number of nestin cells as a marker of new odontoblast-like cells in the exposed dental pulp.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Inflammatory and/or non-inflammatory processes play a role in stimulating pulp repair and the formation of hard tissue, namely reparative dentin. Macrophages play a role in the pathogenesis and chronic inflammatory disorders. The combination casein lactoferrin of bovine colostrum as an immunomodulator has therapeutic potential. This study aims to determine the therapeutic effect and duration of application of the combination of casein lactoferrin of bovine colostrum, on the expression of macrophages as pulp capping.Method: This study was a true experimental laboratories post test only control group design, consisting of three groups of 60 male wistar rats with 4 observation times, namely day to day 7, 14, 21 and 28 each of 5 mice. The maxillary 1st molars were prepared until the roof of the pulp was exposed. Three groups, namely the combination of casein and lactoferrin bovine colostrum (CKL) and calcium hydroxide (K1) and the untreated group (K0). Each group was filled with glassionomer as a permanent restoration. The tissue was made histological preparations with hematoxylin-eosin staining and the number of macrophages were counted, then analyzed by two way ANOVA and post hoc LSD tests.Result: The results showed that the therapeutic effect and duration of application of the combination of casein and lactoferrin bovine colostrum on the expression of macrophages as pulp cappingConclusion: The combination of casein and lactoferrin of bovine colostrum as capping material can increase the number of macrophages in the healing process of dental pulp.
