Abstract

Abstract: This research was conducted using Classroom Action Research to improve students? English pronunciation by using minimal pairs drill technique. The subject of this research was the eight grade students in class F of SMP Negeri 2 Pontianak which consisted of 35 students. This research was done in two cycles. The first cycle was done on April 30th 2016 and the second cycle was done on May 3rd 2016 in which the meeting end for forty-five minutes. To obtain the data, the writer administered oral test to pronounced some words in every cycle. The writer also used observation checklist table and field notes were applied to reflect the students? improvement in their pronunciation in every cycle. In the first cycle, the students? mean score was 62.42 which categorized as ?good? but it was not satisfying. Then, in the second cycle, the students? mean score was 81.86 which categorized as ?excellent? and it was satisfying. Based on the students? mean score, it was found that the students? pronunciation improved from the first cycle to the second cycle. Keywords: Improvement, Pronunciation, Minimal Pairs Drill Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pengucapan bahasa Inggris siswa dengan menggunakan teknik latihan pasangan minimal. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII F SMP Negeri 2 Pontianak yang terdiri dari 35 siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Siklus yang pertama dilaksanakan pada tanggal 30 April 2016 dan siklus yang kedua dilaksanakan pada tanggal 3 Mei 2016 yang mana pertemuan diakhiri sekitar 45 menit. Untuk mendapatkan data, penulis memberikan tes lisan dalam setiap siklus. Penulis juga menggunakan daftar tabel observasi dan catatan yang diterapkan untuk mencerminkan peningkatan siswa dalam pengucapan mereka pada setiap siklus. Pada siklus yang pertama, skor rata-rata yaitu 62.42 dengan kategori ?baik? tetapi tidak memuaskan. Kemudian, pada siklus yang kedua, skor rata-rata yaitu 81.86 dengan kategori 'sangat baik' dan memuaskan. Berdasarkan skor rata-rata tersebut bahwa kemampuan pengucapan siswa meningkat dari siklus pertama ke siklus kedua. Kata Kunci: Peningkatan, Pengucapan, Latihan Bunyi Berpasangan

Abstract

Abstract:The purpose of this research is to evaluate and to provide information about the quality of English Summative test of grade XI SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak made by the teacher in academic year 2014/ 2015 by measuring the validity which consist of content validity, level of difficulty, discriminating power and the reliability of the test. This research is descriptive study. The test being analyzed are 50 multiple choice items. The data were collected by using a documentary technique. The data were taken from the items of English Summative test made by the teacher for grade XI, answer key, students’ answer sheets, and test table of specification. The finding shows that the content validity of the test is 92%, there are 46 test items are good and 4 test items should be revised. The mean of level difficulty of the test is 0.45 (moderate), discriminating power is 0.24 (moderate) and reliability of the test is 0.64 (substantial). From the result, it is concluded that the test items have given a big contribution for the teacher to measure the students’ competence. The test items already fulfilled the requirements of good test, but still need some revision on some items. Keywords: Item Analysis Made By The Teacher.   Abstrak:Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi dan menyediakan informasi tentang kualitas soal Bahasa Inggris Sumatif kelas XI SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak yang dibuat oleh guru pada tahun akademik 2014/ 2015 dengan mengukur validitas yang terdiri atas validitas isi, tingkat kesukaran, daya pembeda, dan reliabilitas pada soal. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif. Soal yang dianalisis sebanyak 50 butir soal pilihan ganda. Data dari penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik dokumentasi. Data diambil dari butir-butir soal Sumatif Bahasa Inggris yang dibuat oleh guru kelas XI, kunci jawaban, lembar jawaban siswa, dan kisi-kisi pembuatan soal. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa validitas isi test adalah 92%, ada 46 butir test yang baik dan 4 butir tes yang harus diperbaiki. Nilai rata-rata tingkat kesukaran tes 0,45 (sedang), daya pembeda 0,24 (sedang) dan reliabilitas tes 0,64 (kuat). Dari hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa soal ini telah memberikan kontribusi besar kepada guru untuk mengukur kompetensi siswa. Butir soal telah memenuhi persyaratan sebagai soal yang baik, tapi masih dibutuhkan beberapa revisi pada beberapa butir soal. Kata Kunci: Analisis Soal Buatan Guru.

Abstract

Abstrack: This research focuses on the students’ speaking problems in presentation of sixth semester students of English Education Study Program of Teacher Training and Education faculty, Tanjungpura University in academic year 2015/2016 both linguistic and nonlinguistic problems. The purpose of this research is to find out the most dominant and least problem faced by the sixth semester students in their presentation. This research used Descriptive method. The population of this research is sixth semester students of English education study program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty,Tanjungpura University class A and B. Sample taken from class A involved 38 students. The writer used questionnaire as the tools of data collection. The finding showed that the most dominant problem faced by the students in doing the presentation is vocabulary (18.94%), and the least problem in doing the presentation is fear of making mistake (15%). The other problems are lack of confident (17.23%), grammar (16.57%), and pronunciation (15.52%).   Keyword: Speaking Problems, Linguistic Problems, Nonlinguistic Problems, Presentation. Abstrak: Fokus penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui masalah berbicara pada mahasiswa semester enam jurusan Bahasa Inggris FKIP Untan tahun ajaran  2015/2016. Masalah berbicara yang dimaksudkan termasuk masalah linguistik dan non linguistik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari tahu masalah yang paling sering (dominan) dan yang paling sedikit dihadapi oleh mahasiswa semester enam saat presentasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Populasi diambil dari mahasiswa semester enam jurusan bahasa Inggris FKIP Untan kelas A dan B. Sampel diambil dari kelas A sebanyak 38 orang. Penulis menggunakan questioner sebagai alat pengumpul data. Hasil pebelitian menunjukan bahwa masalah yang paling sering dihadapi oleh mahasiswa selama presentasi adalah masalah kosakata (18, 94%), dan masalah yang paling sedikit dihadapi mahasiswa selama presentasi adalah takut membuat kesalahan (15%). Masalah lain yang dihadapi mahasiswa selama presentasi yaitu kurang percaya diri (17,23%), tata bahasa (16, 95%) dan pengucapan (15, 52%).   Kata Kunci: Masalah Berbicara, Masalah Linguistik, Masalah Nonlinguistik, Presentasi.

Abstract

AbstractThe research was conducted in order to know how the implementation of the Self-Monitoring Strategy (SMS) improved students’ ability in using simple past tense in recount text to the 10th-grade students of SMAN 1 Pontianak in academic year 2018/2019. This research had been done through Classroom Action Research (CAR) in three cycles. The subjects of this research were the tenth grade English teacher and 36 students of year-10 Science Program 9 of SMAN 1 Pontianak. In collecting the data, the researcher used field notes, observation checklist, and students’ individual assessments. The result showed that the implementation of the SMS step 1 (selecting target behavior), step 2 (knowing what is easy and difficult), and step 5 (evaluation) improve students’ motivation, activeness, and self-awareness of their own learning. Furthermore, the implementation of SMS step 3 (recognition about the mistake they make) and 4 (adjusting the work) improve students’ ability in using verbal-nominal sentences and active-passive voice in the simple past tense.Keywords:            Self-Monitoring Strategy, Simple Past Tense, Self-awareness

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to describe the Hotel Accommodation Major students’ intrinsic motivation in learning English. The subject of the research was the grade XI students of Hotel Accommodation Major at SMK 5 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. The researcher conducted a descriptive research on students’ level of intrinsic motivation and the most dominant factor contribute to the intrinsic motivation in learning English. The researcher gave the students questionnaire about the three factors of intrinsic motivation (challenge, emotions, and needs) and an interview were conducted to gain deeper data related to the questionnaire and the interview that they already done. The research findings showed that the students’ most dominant with high percentage of 83.25% is the Challenge Intrinsic Motivation Factor. Followed by the Needs factor with the percentage of 82.81% and Emotions factor got the lowest percentage among the other two factors with the percentage of 73.40%. Abstract

 AbstractThis study was aimed to find out the correlation between students? interest in speaking and their speaking achievement at MAN 2 Filial Pontianak. There was two problems that need to be discussed in this research, first was how strong the correlation between students? interest in speaking and their speaking achievement. Second, how much was the contribution of students? interest through their speaking achievement. The researcher used purposive sampling technique to choose the sample. There were 21 students of the eleventh grade. Class B was chosen as the sample of this research. The instruments of this research were questionnaire and speaking score rubric. The researcher used Pearson product moment to calculate the data of students? interest and speaking achievement. The result showed that there was significant or positive correlation and indicating a medium correlation. The contribution of students? interest through their speaking achievement was in the amount of 35.6%. Abstract

AbstractThis research is aimed to investigate whether or not the use of picture series affect the students’ writing of recount text and to find out the effect size of the improvement of students’ writing of recount text after being taught using picture series of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak. The form of this research is pre-experimental study with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research is the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak, while the sample is class X A that consists of 32 students. The research findings show that the mean score of pre-test is 59.41 while the mean score of post-test is 69.16. It shows that picture series improves the students’ writing of recount text. The result of this research shows that t-test is higher than t-critical the value is 5.512.042. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a highly significant effect of the use of picture series for teaching writing of recount text on the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak. Keywords: Picture Series, Teaching Writing, Recount Text

Abstract

Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan pengaruh supervisi akademik dan kepemimpinan situasional kepala sekolah terhadap kinerja guru SMP Negeri di Subrayon 4 Sambas. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif.  Data yang digunakan yaitu data kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 106 orang guru. Sedangkan sampelnya berjumlah 84 orang guru. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan angket dengan model pengukuran menggunakan skala Likert. Data yang telah terkumpul ditabulasi. Kemudian dilakukan analisis dengan menggunakan bantuan program aplikasi komputer, yaitu SPSS versi 16 for Window. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 1) pengaruh supervisi akademik kepala sekolah (X1) terhadap kinerja guru (Y) Beta (b1) sebesar 0.407= 40,70%,  2) pengaruh kepemimpinan situasional kepala sekolah (X2) terhadap kinerja guru (Y) Beta (b1) sebesar 0,324= 32.40%, 3) pengaruh supervisi akademik (X1) dan kepemimpinan situasional kepala sekolah (X2) terhadap kinerja guru sebesar 0,395 atau 39,50%. Hasil uji F yang terlihat pada output ANOVA dari hasil analisis regresi linear berganda menunjukkan bahwa Fhitung > Ftabel (26,431 > 3,105).   Kata Kunci : Supervisi Akademik, Kepemimpinan Situasional  Kepala Sekolah, Kinerja Guru Abstract : This research to reveal the influence of the academic supervision and situational leadership principals on teacher performance SMP in Subrayon 4 Sambas. This study uses a quantitative approach. The data used is quantitative data. The population in this research were 106 teachers. While the sample amounted to 84 teachers. Data were collected using a questionnaire with measurement models using Likert scale. The collected data is tabulated. Then analyzed with the help of a computer application program, SPSS version 16 for Window. The results showed that 1) the influence of the academic supervision of the school head (X1) on teacher performance (Y) Beta (b1) of 0.407 = 40.70%,  2) the effect of situational leadership principals (X2) the performance of teachers (Y) Beta (b1) of 0.324 = 32.40%, 3) effect of academic supervision (X1) and situational leadership principals (X2) on teacher performance of 0.395 or 39, 50%. The test results are shown in the output F ANOVA results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that F count> F table (26.431 > 3.105).   Keywords : Supervision of Academic, Situational Leadership Principal, Teacher Performance

Email: roxas113@rocketmail.com Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate whether the use of manga as a media is able to improve students? vocabulary of eleven grade of SMAN 3 Singkawang in academic year 2015/2016. The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research that give attention to the cycle of teaching and learning in classroom to measure the improvement made from the treatment. The sample of this research was 30 students of eleven grade of Social 2. The researcher used the measurement technique to collect the data and the tool of data collecting was test and questionnaire. The researcher used the mean score for analyzing both the test result and the questionnaire result. The test result is improved from 60.17 to 68.3 while the questionnaire result is 84.85 which categorized as moderately positive. The result of test and questionnaire in this research able to satisfy the standard minimum in the school. It proves that the use of Manga is able to improve students? vocabulary. Key Words: Manga (Detective Conan), Improving Vocabulary Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah pengunaan manga sebagai media mampu meningkatkan kosakata siswa kelas sebelas di SMAN 3 Singkawang tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu penelitian tindakan kelas yang berfokus pada siklus pengajaran dan pembelajaran di kelas untuk mengukur peningkatan yang berasal dari treatment. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa kelas sebelas ips 2. Peneliti menggunakan teknik pengukuran untuk mengumpulkan data dan alat yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes dan angket. Peneliti menggunakan nilai rata rata untuk menganalisa baik hasil tes maupun hasil angket. Hasil tes mengalami peningkatan dari 60.17 menjadi 68.3 sedangkan hasil angket adalah 84.85 yang dikategorikan sebagai positif menengah. Hasil dari tes dan angket dalam penelitian ini mampu mencapai standard minimal yang ada disekolah. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan manga mampu meningkatkan kosakata siswa. Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to observe the correlation between students’ motivation and their English learning achievement at the Eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Sambas in academic year 2016/2017. The sample of this study was the 38 students in class VIIIA. The English learning achievement in this study refers to the students’ English learning score. Based on the aim of the research, the researcher formulated study with correlational study. The students’ motivation score was obtained from questionnaire administered in the class. The questionnaire consisted of 20 items. This questionnaire was adopted from Gardner’s AMTB about motivation questionnaire for learners. For the students’ English learning score, the researcher got it through documentation from the English teacher. This English learning score was obtained from the students’ midterm test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Pearson Product Moment in the program SPSS 16. The result from the calculation showed that the value of is -0.26. The researcher then compared it with at the significant degree 5% (0.355), the correlation between students’ motivation and their English learning achievement is negative ( : = -0.26 < 0.355). As a result, the alternative hypothesis which states that “there is correlation between X variable and Y variable” is rejected. Keywords: Correlation, Students’ motivation, English Language Achievement
