Abstract

This research was aimed to develop supplementary material for the first semester of Tenth grade students of Beauty Study Program at SMK Negeri 5 Pontianak. The procedure of this research was ADDIE, it was conducted through the following steps: analyzing the needs, designing the framework, developing the materials, try out the materials, and evaluating the materials. The needs analysis reveals the students of Beauty Study Program needed a particular materials supporting their knowledge about communicating with costumers at a salon. The supplementary materials provided 4 units. They are Dear costumers, may I have your name?; Congrats for your new position!; I would like to dye my hair; and keep your attention, please. Based on the implementation, the students were more enthusiastic in learning English. All of the students follow the teaching and learning process actively since the first time. Based on the expert validation this product considered as valid to be used by the students, as well as the feedback from the participant prove that this supplementary material appropriate to be used. In conclusion, the English learning materials for the grade X students of Beauty Study Program at SMK Negeri 5 Pontianak has successfully developed and could be used as a supplementary material. First, the researcher suggests that the need analysis sheets should be applied in order to meet specific needs of the learners. Second, the prototype is needed to help the researcher develop the supplementary material based on the criteria. Third, evaluation by expert perception is needed to find out the feasibility of supplementary material and feedback is needed in order to make the developing material be more excellent.

Abstract

Pontianak City is undergoing substantial growth in the tourism sector, as evidenced by the increasing number of tourists annually, making the presence of hotels increasingly crucial. From 2011 to 2019, West Kalimantan itself experienced six earthquakes, making earthquake-resistant building planning a necessity as a mitigation against earthquake disasters. This research aims to obtain a safe and comfortable design for an earthquake-resistant hotel building in Pontianak based on SNI 1726: 2019. The Green Hexa Hotel consists of 9 floors with a total height of 36 m and an area of 1286 m2 using a reinforced concrete structure. The building is designed using SRPMM combined with shear walls. The loading refers to SNI 1727:2020. The structural analysis using ETABS and 2D working drawings using AutoCAD software. All structural components are designed using concrete with the fc' 30 MPa and fy 420 MPa rebar. The design results include a 150 mm solid slab floor and a 120 mm floor slab; 6 types of beams, BI.1 35cmx65cm, BA.1 30cmx50cm, BI.2 30cmx55cm, BA.2 24cmx45cm, elevator beam 24cmx45cm, landing beam 24cmx45cm; 2 types of columns, K.1 60cmx60cm, K.2 40cmx40cm, a type of 30 cm shear wall; 7 types of foundations, P.1 140cmx140cmx50cm, P.2 140cmx260cmx50cm, P.3 260cmx260cmx60cm.

Abstract

This research journal delves into a thorough examination of the figurative language embedded within the poem "The Invitation," penned by Oriah Mountain Dreamer. Through meticulous scrutiny of metaphorical constructs, similes, personification, symbolism, alliteration, and repetition, the study endeavors to unveil the multifaceted layers of meaning and emotional resonance encapsulated within the poem's verses. By meticulously dissecting the poet's adept manipulation of language, the research aims to shed light on the profound thematic explorations of self-discovery, authenticity, and human connection that reverberate throughout Dreamer's work. "The Invitation" emerges as a testament to Dreamer's artistic vision and her skillful employment of figurative language to evoke visceral responses and provoke introspection among readers. This comprehensive analysis not only underscores the inherent beauty of the poem but also underscores the significance of figurative language in enhancing its aesthetic and emotional appeal. Through an exhaustive investigation, this research journal seeks to provide a nuanced understanding of how the strategic implementation of figurative language enriches the poetic experience, thus contributing to the broader discourse on the interplay between language, meaning, and artistic expression in poetry.

Abstract

Conventional concrete materials derived from natural resources cause environmental problems. This encourages the development of concrete using recycled materials for sustainability reasons. One such material is shellfish, which is used to replace aggregates in concrete, both fine and coarse aggregates. This study conducted an experimental study using shellfish waste as a fine aggregate in a concrete mixture. Utilization of shellfish waste not only reduces environmental problems but can also provide economic value to construction, as well as an effort to conserve natural resources. Shellfish waste was obtained from the coast of Mempawah Regency. The planned test specimens were 15x15x15 cm cubes with a target quality of K225 kg/cm². The test specimens were made with a composition of sand with shellfish sand in proportions of 0%, 5%, 7%, 9%, and 100%. Physical properties of shellfish sand were tested, slump tests were conducted to determine the effect of shellfish sand on concrete viscosity, and concrete compression tests were conducted at the age of 28 days to determine the effect of shellfish sand on concrete strength. The compressive strength test results with 0% substitution = 246.22 kg/cm² or 24.15 MPa. 5% substitution = 211.98 kg/cm² or 20.79 MPa, resulting in a 5.79% decrease in quality. 7% substitution = 195.10 kg/cm² or 19.3 MPa, resulting in a 13.29% decrease in quality. 9% substitution = 176.14 kg/cm² or 17.27 MPa, resulting in a 21.72% decrease in quality. 100% substitution = 155.56 kg/cm² or 15.25 MPa, resulting in a 30.86% decrease in quality. The greater the substitution of the shell sand mixture, the greater the decrease in quality.

Abstract

Sungai Duri II Village, Mempawah Regency, is facing serious challenges regarding access to clean water due to climate change, which has deteriorated river water quality. High turbidity and organic contamination have rendered river water unfit for consumption without treatment. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to increase community independence through socialization and training on Tiered Filtering technology. The method used is Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) through education stages, filter assembly demonstrations, and technical assistance. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in community understanding (85%) and the availability of independent filter units at the household level. This technology is proven to reduce water turbidity visually and decrease the economic burden on residents for purchasing clean water, while also serving as a concrete adaptation step against the impacts of climate change in coastal areas. This activity successfully achieved its primary goal of socialising river water treatment using the Tiered Filtering method as a clean water solution for the people of Sungai Duri II village, as well as establishing sustainable collaboration between academics and local government/community. Questionnaire results indicated that 100% of participants stated this activity was beneficial for improving their understanding of simple yet effective clean water treatment systems. Participants expressed that the filter units are easy to use, the clean water produced is tangible, and they feel happy and satisfied with the program.
