Abstract

The study is based on a paradoxical phenomenon: during a severe inflation crisis in 2025, with the annual rate reaching 35.41%, Turkish society appears to respond relatively calmly, showing no massive social turmoil or widespread protests. The economic pressure is significant, with the prices of necessities, housing, and utilities increasing sharply, eroding real purchasing power, and exacerbating inequality. This paradox raises the question of how Turkish society constructs its social reality under such economic stress. This study aims to understand this phenomenon through the lens of Peter L. Berger theory of social construction. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research collects data through literature studies, media discourse analysis, policy document reviews, and in-depth interviews with workers, students, and community members in Turkey. The findings reveal that the Turkish government deliberately shapes social reality by restricting demonstrations, controlling narratives through mainstream media, and reinforcing nationalism as a unifying ideology. Through the stages of externalization, objectification, and internalization, the state produces an illusion of social stability which, in practice, masks forms of socio-political repression. Moreover, the rational-instrumental actions, such as adaptation to new prices and wage adjustments, and affective actions, such as pride in national identity, further contribute to society’s seemingly passive response. Overall, the study shows that the Turkish case is not merely about economic resilience but about how power constructs, directs, and sustains a dominant social reality during times of crisis.

Abstract

This study examined how the Gulen movement and Muhammadiyah spread their influence to achieve their global vision and relations with the government. Both the Gulen movement and Muhammadiyah are Islamic-based non-governmental organizations and some of the largest in their respective countries and the world. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data and a literature study to collect the data. The analysis revealed that, first, by using the new transnational activism approach, the international role of the Gulen movement and Muhammadiyah brought benefits to both governments of origin. Muhammadiyah had a significant role in providing an excellent image for the Indonesian government. Meanwhile, despite the dispute and the Gulen movement’s independence, the public has viewed the movement as identical to a representative of the Turkish government with its international role and media use. Second, the approach of transnational Muslim NGOs has explained that both the Gulen movement and Muhammadiyah were oriented toward helping fellow Muslims with a focus on Muslim groups and countries. The Gulen movement built many educational institutions in Muslim-majority countries, such as Azerbaijan and Senegal. In contrast, Muhammadiyah accommodated and provided full scholarships for students from Muslim-majority areas, such as Southern Thailand and Mindanao, Phillippines. Muhammadiyah also helped mobilize humanitarian aid for Rohingya Muslims.

Abstract

This study discusses the dynamics of Turkish nationalism in 2025 which is characterized by a high inflation rate, but is not accompanied by a political crisis or national disintegration. This phenomenon is interesting because economic crises usually trigger social and political tensions, but in Turkey it is quite the opposite. The government is able to manage the political dynamics of Islamist and secular groups productively, making this division a social capital to strengthen national unity. This research uses a qualitative approach by observing social discourse, government policies, and community responses to national issues. The results show that Turkish nationalism is not uniform, but rather divided between those who support secularism as a national identity and those who see Islam as an important part of national identity. Despite the tensions between the two groups, they have in common in terms of commitment to the integrity and sovereignty of the country. The main difference lies in the way they interpret national identity.

Abstract

The United Nations (UN) aims to uphold international peace and security. The Security Council (SC), the UN's principal body, is tasked with upholding peace and security stability, taking appropriate measures, and mediating disputes following the UN Charter's provisions. As a member of the UN mission, Sierra Leone is dedicated to preserving international peace. Sierra Leone refers to the UN Charter, the 1945 Constitution that granted veto power to the P5, and requests that two African countries be granted permanent membership with the same veto power. This research used qualitative methods with interpretive content analysis to analyze secondary data from official reports, journals, mass media, etc., using the interactive model and NVivo 12 Plus software to examine the dynamics of Sierra Leone's Security Council membership in dealing with global issues. The results prove that Sierra Leone's policies have sought to fight against the neocolonial structure of the UN Security Council’s membership.

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to map the academic development and thematic shifts in research on Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) before and after its official dissolution (2010-2023). Previous studies highlight HTI’s evolution as a transnational Islamic movement and the growing scholarly attention following the Indonesian government’s 2017 ban. Despite its termination, HTI remains central in academic debates on Islamic ideology and socio-political dynamics. This study employs a quantitative bibliometric method using Dimensions data to examine structural patterns in HTI research. VOSviewer is used to visualize co-authorship networks, keyword clusters, and institutional contributions. The findings reveal 402 publications, with a significant rise in output after HTI’s dissolution. Ideological contestation, da'wah strategies, and political activism dominate the thematic landscape. Indonesia remains the primary hub of HTI-related scholarship, with significant contributions from the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and PTIQ Institute Jakarta. Key thematic clusters include Islamic movements, political Islam, the caliphate discourse, constitutional debates, and liberal Islamic networks. These findings demonstrate HTI’s continuing relevance in discussions on Islamic identity and social movements in Indonesia. This study maps HTI’s scholarly trajectory and recommends expanding comparative analyses of post-ban transformations of transnational Islamic movements.Adam, Y. F. (2022).
