Abstract

The banking sector has a strategic role in Indonesia's economic growth, with state-owned banks as the main pillars of the national financial system. This study is intended to evaluate the impact of macroeconomic factors on the financial performance of state-owned banks during the period 2014-2023 using Return on Assets (ROA) as a performance indicator. This quantitative research with panel data regression method uses independent variables of interest rate, inflation, and exchange rate. Secondary data was obtained from the financial statements of four state-owned banks (BRI, BNI, Mandiri, and BTN) analyzed using STATA 17. The study states that interest rates have a significant positive impact on ROA, while inflation only has an insignificant positive impact and exchange rates have an insignificant negative impact on ROA. The research findings indicate that state-owned banks have good adaptability in dealing with fluctuations in macroeconomic conditions. This study contributes to the understanding of the dynamics of national banking financial performance and suggests the importance of paying attention to interest rates in bank management strategies.

Abstract

One strategy to increase peanut production is to use good-quality seeds. The content of the seed determines the quality of the seed. Drying with low relative humidity can lower the drying temperature so that drying is done quickly and seed quality is maintained. This research was conducted to analyze the process and differences in peanut seed drying using dehumidifier drying and oven drying methods. Drying was carried out using a dehumidifier and oven drying machine at 30 °C, 40 °C, and 50 °C until the moisture content reached 9%, with observations every 30 minutes. Then the dried seeds were analyzed for their physical and physiological qualities. The results showed that the time needed for dehumidifier drying was faster than oven drying, with the details of dehumidifier machine drying at 30 °C, 40 °C, and 50 °C being 18.5 hours, 15 hours, and 10.5 hours. While drying in the oven at the same temperature, it takes 21 h, 17 h, and 12 h. From the results of the analysis of the physical quality of the seeds, the germination test, and the vigor test, it can be seen that dehumidifier drying gave the highest seed percentage results of 98%, 98%, and 88%. Keywords: Dehumidifier, Drying, Peanuts, Seed Quality, Water content.

Abstract

Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) is a horticultural plant with high economic value, consumed as fresh fruit or a processed product. However, this plant still requires serious handling, especially in tomato seeds. The seeds are coated with quite slimy flesh and need to be separated using a suitable method so that the flesh layer can be cleaned optimally. Tomato seeds have a high water content, causing the seeds to easily damaged and quickly decrease their viability. Therefore, it is necessary to dry the seeds properly to lower the water content while maintaining the seed’s quality. This research aimed to calculate the time needed to reduce the water content of tomato seeds in a dehumidified drying machine, analyze the germination percentage of tomato seeds resulting from dehumidified drying using various separation techniques, and measure the effect of separation techniques. The temperature of dehumidified drying affects the germination and vigor of tomato seeds. The experiment was carried out using a two factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method, namely separation technique (i.e., left for 24 hours, using 2% HCl, and using 10% Na2CO3) and temperature in a dehumidified drying machine (i.e., 30, 40, 50, and 60 °C). The highest germination percentage and vigor index were produced in the treatment with 2% HCl for 2 hours with a drying temperature of 40°C. The separation technique and drying temperature influenced the germination percentage and vigor index, but the interaction between separation techniques had no effect.

Abstract

Seagrass (Syringodium isoetifolium) is a marine plant commonly found in Indonesian waters, known to contain bioactive compounds such as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and antibacterials. This potential makes seagrass a natural ingredient that can be utilized in developing skincare products, one of which is solid soap. This study aims to determine the effect of varying concentrations of NaOH and seagrass extract on the physical characteristics and antioxidant activity of solid soap. The seagrass extraction process was carried out using the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) probe method with 50% ethanol as the solvent. Solid soap was formulated with variations in NaOH concentration (20%, 30%, and 40%) and seagrass extract concentration (0%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%). Soap quality tests included measurements of moisture content, pH, and foam stability, while antioxidant activity was tested using the DPPH method to determine the IC50 value. The results showed that increasing the NaOH concentration and seagrass extract level tended to increase the moisture content and pH of the soap. The highest foam stability was obtained in soap with 20% NaOH and 10% extract, although the differences were not statistically significant. Antioxidant activity increased with the addition of seagrass extract, with the best result found in soap with 30% NaOH and 10% extract, which had an IC50 value of 1470.90 ppm. The solid soap produced met the solid soap quality standards according to SNI 3532:2021.

Abstract

State-owned construction companies face structural financial pressures due to massive debt burdens to finance national infrastructure projects, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a 5.67% contraction in the construction sector in 2020, resulting in the suspension of trading of PT Waskita Karya and PT Wijaya Karya shares, which could potentially be delisted from the Indonesia Stock Exchange. This condition confirms that state-owned company status does not provide immunity from bankruptcy, as evidenced by PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines and PT Istaka Karya, which have been declared bankrupt. This study analyzes financial distress conditions based on the Altman Z-Score and identifies the influence of Operating Cash Flow, Company Size, Asset Growth, and Company Age on financial distress for the period 2015–2024, based on Agency Theory and Signaling Theory. Secondary data from four state-owned construction companies listed on the IDX were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS version 31. PT Waskita Karya recorded the lowest Z-Score of −1.96, placing it in the distress zone. Partially: Operating Cash Flow had no significant effect (p = 0.457 > 0.05); Company Size had a significant negative effect (p < 0.001 < 0.05); Asset Growth had a significant positive effect (p = 0.030 < 0.05); Company Age had no significant effect (p = 0.494 > 0.05). Simultaneously, the four variables have a significant effect (p < 0.001 < 0.05) with an Adjusted R² of 47.7%, confirming that the financial distress of state-owned construction companies is multidimensional and requires holistic improvement interventions.

Abstract

Improving chemical literacy is an important task in learning in the global and sustainable development era. However, chemistry learning at schools still tends to focus on mastering theoretical concepts. Therefore, a learning model that is able to provide meaningful and contextual learning experience is needed, one of which is the experiential learning model. The experiential learning model is considered capable of facilitating students in constructing knowledge and developing chemical literacy skills. This study aims to analyze students’ chemical literacy skills before and after learning using the experiential learning model on the topic of global warming, as well as analyzing their improvement. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design and was conducted in two public senior high schools in Sleman Regency, Indonesia, with a sample of 144 Grade X students. Data were collected using chemical literacy tests that had been validated theoretically and empirically. The data were analyzed using a paired t-test and N-gain scores. The results showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, with an improvement in chemical literacy skills in the medium category. These findings indicate that the application of the experiential learning model is effective in improving students’ chemical literacy skills on global warming topics.
