Abstract

Research on the adsorption biocharcoal of durian (durio zibethinus murr) bark to cadmium ion has been conducted. Heavy metal ions are toxic and generally as a major pollutant to the environment. Handling of waste containing heavy metal ions, especially Cd2+ ions have been carried out and need to be developed. This study described the ability of biocharcoal (biological charcoal) of durian bark to adsorb Cd2+ ions from their solutions. The method in this study was a laboratory experiment using biological charcoal powder of durian bark as an adsorbent of Cd2+ ions. Concentration of Cd2+ ions absorbed was measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) at a wavelength of 228.8 nm. The results showed the optimum Cd2+ ion absorbed was at 80 mg biocharcoal with the percentage of the Cd2+ ion absorbed up to 93.46%, where the weight of the Cd2+ ion absorbed was 16.62 mg/g. The optimum pH was at 7.0 with the percentage of the Cd2+ ion absorbed up to 97.94%, where the weight of the Cd2+ ion absorbed was 17.42 mg/g. The optimum concentration was at 20 ppm with the percentage of the Cd2+ ion absorbed up to 91.97%, where the weight of Cd2+ ion absorbed was 11.42 mg/g. The maximum absorption capacity of biocharcoal to the Cd2+ ion using the Langmuir isotherm adsorption equation was 33.33 mg/g of biocharcoal.

Abstract

The research aim is to determine the effect of sugar-apple fruit extract on the reduction of blood pressure in mice as the tested animal. The sugar-apple extract was obtained through maceration method with the ratio of sugar-apple fruit powder and water 1:10, after that the heating was done to produce the extract in solid form, then the potassium content was measured by using a spectrophotometer and male mice were induced by adrenaline injection, namely epinephrine. The mice were divided into 5 groups randomly with different treatment. P1 was as a negative control (-), P2, P3, P4 were given the sugar-apple extract with the doses of 50, 100 and 150 mg/kg BW respectively, while P5 was as positive control (+) that was given captopril. The data obtained were analyzed by the statistical analysis, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and was followed by Duncan’s test. The result obtained that on preclinical testing revealed that the sugar-apple extract was proven to reduce the blood pressure of mice and the effective extract was the concentration of 150 mg/kg with the average blood pressure of 48 mmHg.

Abstract

Utilization of information technology in particular a QR code in education is still lacking. Therefore the reseacher is examining the QR code in the chemistry learning. Teaching and learning activities in the classroom are still dominated by teachers, meanwhile students seem expect more aids from their peers in performing the task. which due to a number of student are still lack of confidence in completing their tasks. In this study, the researchers use the QR code in the learning of periodic table topics regarding properties of elements. The problem statement was wether the learning outcomes of student who involved in the learning using QR code are better than student who take lessons without involving the use of QR code. The number of student in class X science Labschool Untad for 2013/2014 academic year are 22 student in experimental classroom and 22 student in control classroom which are determined by purposive sampling. Based on the results, it is concluded that the learning outcomes of students who took lessons with the use of QR code is higher than the learning outcome of students who took the lessons without involving the use of QR code for student in class X SMA Labschool Tadulako University.

Abstract

Generally in the learning process students tend to be passive in finding out the concept. Students just rewrite the existing conceptss, so that their learning outcomes are less. To obtainthe improvement of students’ learning outcome it required a learning model, one of them is cooperative learning model TSTS. This study aims to apply student-centered in the learning process of SMA Negeri 1 Sausu, and to investigate the students’ learning outcomes with the application of the learning model TSTS type and the conventional on chemistry subject at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sausu. This research is experimental research with quasi experiment design. The population is the whole tenth grade students numbered 124 studends with the sample taken purposively where class B as for the control class numbered 31 students and class D as for the experimental class numbered 31 students. The results of the data analysis obtained the average score of the experimental class is 7.04 with deviation standard is 2.85 and control class is 5.43 with deviation standard is 3.11. from the results of testing hypothesis obtained tcounted = 2.26 and ttable = 2.00 at α = 0.05, so that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. These data showed that students’ learning outcomes with the implementation of cooperative learning model TSTS were higher than conventional learning model on the subject of chemistry at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sausu.

Abstract

Celery (apium graveolens L.) contains chemicals that can be used as traditional medicine for various treatments. The research objective is to determine the effect of celery (apium graveolens L.) extractsin dissolving calcium kidney stones and calcium to determine the relationship between the concentration of extract of celery (apium graveolens L.) with the solubility of calcium in the kidney stones. Determination of the solubility of calcium in an extract of celery is by flame fotometer. The concentration of the extract was varried into 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20%. It showed that a concentration of 1% can dissolve the calcium as much as 15.104%; concentration of 5% can dissolve the calcium as much as 18.708%; concentration of 10% can dissolve the calcium as much as 23.683%; concentration of 15% can dissolve the calcium as much as 28.869%; and to a concentration of 20% can dissolve the calcium as much as 35.048%. It can be concluded that celeries extract can dissolve calcium of kidney stones.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the optimum capacity and weight of water hyacinth aroma to the adsorption capacity of phenol in Palu PLTU waste. The steps taken in this research are a sampling of PLTU waste, making of adsorbent, determination of phenol concentration in PLTU waste and determination of phenol concentration at equilibrium using a Spektrodirect spectrophotometer. The adsorption capacity of water hyacinth at optimum condition of phenol was determined by weight variations of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 mg. The resulting result after adsorption process for adsorption weight at the weight of charcoal 10 mg = 82.78%, 20 mg = 89.13%, 30 mg = 85.49%, 40 mg = 79.72% and 50 mg = 74, 42 %. The optimum weight of charcoal in phenol absorb is 20 mg with% phenol which is absorbed 89.13%. The capacity of adsorbent hailing of water hyacinth scent at optimum condition of 3.03 mg phenol/g of adsorbent.

Abstract

Jackfruit’s peel contains lignocellulosic compounds that potential for fabrication of charcoal and useful for adsorbing heavy metals. Based on this, then it was conducted a study on the utilization of charcoal from jackfruit’s peel to be used as adsorbent on cadmium and nickel. The analysis process of this research was conducted by using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (SSA). The results showed that charcoal’s characteristics from jackfruit’s peel contained of 4.4% water, 9.3% ash, and biomass content that can be used as an absorbent was 86.3%. The optimum adsorption of charcoal from jackfruit’s peel for cadmium ion was contact time of 120 minutes, pH 7 and concentration of 40 mg/L with the percentages of penetration respectively were 84.65%, 99.10%, and 99.43%. On the other hand, for nickel was 150 minutes of contact time, pH 5, and concentration of 20 mg/L with percentage of penetration were 87.95%, 91.75%, and 75.15% respectively.

Abstract

Red fruit plant (Pandanus conoideus De Vriese) is very potential for health. This is because the plant contains many nutrients, especially minerals that are needed for the human body. Iron and zinc are two micro-minerals that contained in red fruit, but the content data about those are not widely known. The aim  of this research was to determine iron and zinc content by atomic absorption spectrophotometric of red fruit from  Mattirowaslle Village, South Pamona Sub-district, Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi. The water content of the sample obtained was 52%, and the ash content was 13.8%. While the analysis of iron and zinc content at wavelength 248.30 nm (iron) and 213.90 nm (zinc) obtained were 1,339 mg/100g for iron and 0,397 mg/100g for zinc.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of mango seed extract concentration on the rate of corrosion of iron nails in corrosive medium of NaCl solution and seawater as comparison.The research begins with maceration of mango seeds followed by evaporation to produce the extract as an inhibitor with a variation of concentration 1 - 5%. The method of determining the corrosion rate was the weight loss method with soaking for 7 days. The results showed that the highest corrosion inhibition efficiency occurred at 3% concentration for immersion with corrosive medium of 3% NaCl and 2% concentration for soaking in sea water with efficiency respectively 15.34% and 10.63%. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the increasing concentration of mango seed extract resulted in the efficiency effect on corrosion of nails.

Abstract

Rambutan peel is one source of biocharcoal production to adsorb metal ions because of the potential of cellulose content. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of biocharcoal from rambutan peel as well as to determine biocharcoal adsorption to zinc and copper based on the variation of biocharcoal weight and metal ions concentrations. The method used in this study was a laboratory experiment, and metals were analyzed using spectrophotometer spectroDirect. The results showed the moisture and ash levels of the biocharcoal were 0.4% and 5.4%, respectively. The optimum weight of biocharcoal to adsorb Zn and Cu ions was 40 mg with their percentage adsorption of 98.81% and 98.94%, respectively. The optimum concentration adsorption of biocharcoal to Zn ions was 40 ppm with the percentage adsorption of 98.32%, while for the Cu ions was 60 ppm with the percentage adsorption of 98.25%.
