Abstract

This research aimed to describe the effectiveness of Blended Learning in teaching English. This research was qualitative that focused on evaluating learning using Blended Learning. The data collection techniques used in this research were observation, questionnaires by using the google form application, and unstructured interviews. The results of the research were obtained and analyzed qualitatively. Based on the results Blended learning had more effective than online learning and face-to-face in terms of the student’s learning outcomes. The use of Blended learning can be applied by doing 50/50, which means 50% of online and offline learning, 50% face-to-face learning, 75/25, 75% online and offline learning, 25% face-to-face learning, or 25/75, 25% online learning. and offline 75% face-to-face learning with the location of the learning time.

Abstract

Karang Taruna adalah organisasi kepemudaan di Indonesia. Karang Taruna merupakan wadah pengembangan generasi muda nonpartisan, yang tumbuh atas dasar kesadaran dan rasa tanggung jawab sosial dari, oleh dan untuk masyarakat khususnya generasi muda di wilayah Desa / Kelurahan atau komunitas sosial sederajat, yang terutama bergerak dibidang kesejahteraan social. Pemuda Karang taruna di Desa Patani Kecamatan Mappakasunggu Kabupaten Takalar ini termasuk salah satu kelompok pemuda yang aktif dalam berbagai kegiatan. Sebagian pemuda karang taruna belum mampu berkomunikasi dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris dengan baik. Bahkan hampir semua dari mereka tidak memiliki motivasi dan minat dalam mempelajari Bahasa Inggris. Penerapan komunikasi dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris dalam bentuk percakapan yang berhubungan bidang pariwisata. Dengan berdasar inilah kami pelaksana berinisiatif untuk memberikan Pelatihan Berkomunikasi Bahasa Inggris untuk meningkatkan rasa percaya diri mereka didepan umum. Dengan diberikan trik dan cara cepat menguasai Bahasa. Berkomunikasi dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris yang bukan lagi hal yang luar biasa atau berlebihan di dalam keseharian khususnya oleh muda-mudi dijaman sekarang, olehnya itu menjadi penting setiap pemuda atau anggota karang taruna ini bisa fasih berbahasa Inggris dengan baik. Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi dan berbahasa Inggris yang dimiliki oleh kelompok karang taruna di Desa Patani Kecamatan Mappakasunggu Kabupaten Takalar yang Sebagian besarnya adalah pemuda-pemudi terbaik yang ada di Desa tersebut. Harapannya adalah dengan meningkatnya kemampuan berkomunikasi mereka dalam Bahasa Inggris ini akan meningkatkan kepercayaan diri mereka dan bisa ikut aktif setiap kegiatan kepemudaan baik tingkat lokal, nasional hingga tingkat internasional. Pemuda merupakan pemegang tongkat estafet peradaban, dengan berkembangnya kemampuan komunikasi mereka dalam berbahasa Inggris maka semakin maju pula nantinya desa mereka kedepannya. Dari hasil kegiatan ini pengelolah karang taruna dapat berkomunikasi menggunakan Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar dalam menghadapi tamu wisatawan khususnya tamu asing yang datang ke daerah wisata

Abstract

The aim of this study was to improving the students’ speaking skills by using storytelling technique at the eleventh grade student of SMA Tut Wuri Handayani Makassar that consist of 2 students. This research was classroom action research which was implemented in two cycle such as cycle 1 and cycle 2. On each cycle, there were four meetings consist of planning, action, observation and reflecting. The collecting data method used quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative is the main data while qualitative is supporting data. Quantitative data consisted of speaking tests while qualitative data consisted of observation checklist, interviews, field notes, and documentation. The result showed that the using of storytelling technique can improve the students’ speaking skill. This could be proven through the average score of students in class XI. In cycle 1 was 72,76% while in cycle 2 was 82,36%. The result of percentage of completeness criteria also increased. In cycle 1, there were 14 students (56%)while in cycle 2 there were 25 students (100%). It showed that the use of storytelling technique could improve the students’ speaking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' speaking skills by using the discussion method in the eleventh grade students of SMA Tut Wuri Handayani Makassar. This research is a classroom action research (CAR). This research was conducted in two cycles, namely cycle 1 and cycle 2 and each cycle had four meetings. Research in each cycle consists of four steps; planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data in this study uses quantitative (test) as the main data and qualitative as supporting data. The sample in this study was 23 students in class XI MIPA at SMA Tut Wuri Handayani. The results showed that the use of the discussion method succeeded in improving students' speaking skills. This can be seen from the average grade XI MIPA students. The average value in cycle 1 is 69.34 which is categorized as good and the average value in cycle 2 is 78.21 which is categorized as very good. This study shows that the average score in cycle 2 is better than cycle 1. The percentage of students who meet the criteria for completeness also increases. In cycle 1, there were 9 students (39.12%) who met the minimum completeness criteria (KKM). In cycle 2, there were 18 students (78.25%) who met the minimum completeness criteria (KKM). The conclusion of this research is that the Discussion Method can improve student learning outcomes in speaking skills. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan berbicara siswa dengan Menggunakan metode diskusi pada Siswa Kelas Sebelas SMA Tut Wuri Handayani Makassar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK). Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus yaitu siklus 1 dan siklus 2 dan setiap siklus memiliki empat kali pertemuan. Penelitian pada tiap siklus terdiri dari empat Langkah; perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan kuantitatif (tes) sebagai data utama dan kualitatif sebagai data pendukung. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 23 siswa di kelas XI MIPA di SMA Tut Wuri Handayani. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Metode diskusi berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari nilai rata-rata siswa kelas XI MIPA. Nilai rata-rata pada siklus 1 adalah 69,34 yang dikategorikan baik dan nilai rata-rata pada siklus 2 adalah 78,21 yang dikategorikan sangat baik. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pada siklus 2 lebih baik dari siklus 1. Persentase siswa yang memenuhi kriteria ketuntasan juga meningkat. Pada siklus 1, terdapat 9 siswa (39,12%) yang memenuhi kriteria ketuntasan minimum (KKM). Pada siklus 2, terdapat 18 siswa (78,25%) yang memenuhi kriteria ketuntasan minimum (KKM). Kesimpulkan penelitian ini adalah Metode Diskusi dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa dalam kemampuan berbicara.

Abstract

This journal documents the experiences and results of an English language learning program through engagement in English language communication. This research aims to measure the impact of direct interaction with native speakers and cultural context in improving English language skills, by providing practical guidance and describing the benefits gained through active participation in the English language community. Mentoring is carried out by connecting students with members of the English Community through online platforms or direct meetings. During mentoring, students are allowed to interact, ask questions, and learn directly from community members. The methods include group discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and language practice activities. English language learning assistance is carried out in four stages, namely; preparation, interaction, monitoring and evaluation. The results of English language learning assistance through the English Community are 1) increasing English language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing English after interacting with community members. 2) students seem more motivated to learn English after being involved in this assistance. 3) apart from improving English language skills, students also succeeded in building social networks with community members. They feel more comfortable and confident in interacting with native English speakers.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of role-playing in teaching speaking skills to students of class XI 19 Senior High School Makassar, and whether there is a significant difference between students who are trained in speaking skills using conventional methods and students who use role-playing techniques. This study uses a quantitative approach, namely experimental research with a pre-test and post-test research design and the sample of this study is 60 students. Researchers used two clasess and experimental class using role-playing techiquess and a control class using concetional methods. Meanwhile, in the last stage, the researcher gave a post-test in the same class to find out whether the role-playing techiquess was effective in teaching students speaking skills in the experimental class. The results of this study show the average pre-test in the experimental class (59.87%) and the control class (60.93%). The post-test average of the experimental class (84.40%) was higher than that of the control class (64.53%). This means that there is a difference between students who use role-playing techniquess abd students who uses conventional techniquess. Thus, teaching speaking using role-playing techniquess has a significant effect on improving students speaking skills. Therefore, it is suggested that the role-playing techniquess can be applied as an affective learning method for teachers to teach speaking skills anf for future researchers to use the same type of research under different conditions.

Abstract

The objective was to determine the influence of English movie to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. This used a quantitative research with experimental method. This study used two classes, namely experimental class with English movie and control class without English movie. The samples were grade X IPA 2 with 30 students for the experiment class and grade X IPA 3 with 30 students for the control class.Data collection techniques were pre-test and post-test. The results indicated the pre-test result mean value in the experimental class was 38.50 and the pre-test in the control class was 34.17 indicating that the students ability in the pre-test was still very low while the experimental class mean value in post-test was.83.17 and the post test results in the control class were 63.17 showing that the students’ vocabulary mastery was in a good category and began to increase. The data were analyzed by using and independent sample of normality that 0.053 >0.05 so that normality is distributed, homogeneity values are met,t-test,indicating that Sig.( 2-tailed) is 0.000 lower than 0.05 so that the influence is found. The research proves there is an increase in the students’ vocabulary mastery trough English movie.It can be concluded that English movie can improve the vocabulary mastery of grade X IPA 2 students at SMAN 10 GOWA.

Abstract

Fluency in pronunciation is a crucial aspect of effective verbal communication. Inaccurate pronunciation can result in a misinterpretation of the word's intended meaning. Consequently, it is imperative to have media resources that assist pupils in comprehending pronunciation better. There are numerous media platforms available, one of them being YouGlish. The research aims to investigate students' perception on the the use of Youglish as instructional technology and media for learning English pronunciation. YouGlish is a website that utilizes YouTube videos to enhance English pronunciation. The researchers employed the descriptive qualitative method in this study. This study was carried out for second semester English students. The instruments utilized in this investigation consisted of a questionnaire and an interview. The data indicates that students hold favorable views regarding the utilization of YouGlish. The research findings demonstrated the students' viewpoint regarding the use of YouGlish for enhancing English Pronunciation learning. The survey findings also indicated predominantly favorable and unfavorable feedback. The utilization of both of these instruments is the method to ascertain the students' perspectives on the integration of YouGlish in pronunciation acquisition. Ultimately, YouGlish has the ability to pique students' interest in studying Pronunciation and foster a desire to learn. In conclusion that YouGlish has the ability to generate students' interest in studying by virtue of its online platform, which may actively engage them with a fervent enthusiasm for learning the subject matter.

Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk melatih dan membantu guru-guru di Kelompok Kerja Guru (KKG) gugus 1 Ki Hajar Dewantara Makassar dalam penelitian tindakan kelas dan penulisan artikel ilmiah. Pelatihan diberikan melalui ceramah, demonstrasi, tanya jawab, dan praktik melalui pada kegiatan workshop Kegiatan, pendampingan penyusunan PTK dan Menulis di Jurnal Ilmiah serta evaluasi kegiatan. Materi pelatihan disajikan dengan lebih banyak praktik daripada teori, dengan rasio 25% teori dan 75% praktik. Maka hasil yang diharapkan melalui pendampingan penyusunan PTK dan menulis artikel di jurnal ilmiah meliputi sebagai berikut. (1) Solusi permasalahan yakni kemampuan guru dalam PTK masih rendah. Maka melalui kegiatan pengabdian ini, akan dilakukan pendampingan penyusunan PTK mulai memahami Prosedur PTK dan pedoman penyusun proposal sampai ke Hasil penelitian. Peserta dalam kegiatan ini sebanyak 65 Guru dalam pendampingan PTK dan Menulis Artikel di jurnal Ilmiah dengan rincian. Dari pelaksanaan kegiatan PKM disimpulkan 1) pelaksanaan pelatihan penulisan yang di lakukan oleh TIM PKM Universitas Megarezky, PIP Makassar, Universitas Bosowa dan UPI Paulus Makassar bersama Mitra Kelompok Kerja Guru (KKG) Gugus 1 KI Hajar Dewantara Kecamatan Manggala telah sesuai dengan tahapan yang telah direncanakan sebelumnya, secara keseluruhan, tanggapan peserta pelatihan Karya Tulis Ilmiah ini sangat puas dengan materi yang mereka terima

Abstract

The rapid growth of online instruction has significantly transformed education, particularly in the 5.0 society development era. This study investigates the online reading strategies and comprehension skills of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, aiming to better understand how students approach online texts and the challenges they encounter. Using a qualitative case study design, fifteen EFL students were selected through purposive sampling. Data were gathered through observations and semi-structured interviews to identify the reading strategies employed by these learners in an online environment. The results revealed that EFL learners used various effective strategies to engage meaningfully with online materials. However, notable differences in reading strategies were observed based on individual preferences, leading to diverse outcomes in comprehension. These variations highlight the challenges some students face in understanding online content, emphasizing the need for more personalized approaches in online reading instruction. The study suggests that while EFL learners can apply appropriate online reading strategies, their effectiveness depends on individual reading preferences and comprehension levels. Consequently, educators should address these differences by designing flexible and adaptable reading lessons. The integration of both basic and more advanced strategies is essential to support all learners in navigating online texts effectively.
