Abstract

Isoflavone compounds have been known to have biological effects in improving health. The purpose ofthis study was to determine the bioavailability of isoflavone in plasma and its role as lowering bloodglucose levels in hyperglycemia rats. Bioavailability of isoflavones in plasma was performed in 18 ratsstrains Spraque Dawley age 3 months with 200 g of body weight on average and were given 300 ppm oralof isoflavone single dose. The analysis of isoflavon as done at 0, 1, 6, 12, 18 and 24 hours using HPLCmethod. Study effect on blood biochemical values used 25 male rats, which was divided into 5 treatmentgroups. One group as a negative control (K1) was given aquades; positive group hyperglycemia (K2), and 3other groups (K3, K4 and K5) were a positive groups of hyperglycemia and given isoflavone different doses,i.e. 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mg/200g bw per oral. Blood glucose were analyzed by using glucose oxidase biosensor, while cholesterol, HDL (Hight-density lipoprotein) and triglycerides were analyzed enzymatically using aspectrophotometer. The results showed the analyzes isoflavone genistein was more efficiently absorbedthan daidzein and glisitein. Isoflavone as found at highest concentration in plasma at 6 hours after oraladministration i.e: genistein of 11,17 ppm, daidzein of 2,86 ppm and glisitein of 2,47 ppm. Theadministration isoflavones at dose 2 mg/200g bw could decrease blood glucose levels in hyperglycemiarats, and also has hipocholesterolemia effect.

Abstract

Ringworm is an infectious skin disease caused by dermatophytes and can infected various of animals, including cattle. This disease is not only able to cause high economic losses in the farm but also zoonotic. The aims of this study were to conduct a preliminary study of ringworm in Bali cattle of especieally toidentify the causes and clinical lesion and also its prevalence. Samples which suspected ringworm werecollected from Badung and Buleleng Regency, Bali Province. Skin lesion of suspected infected by ringwormwere observed, recorded, and documented. Skin scrapings and hair was taken for direct microscopicexamination for the presence of fungal element (hyphae or arthrospora). Skin scrapings and hair sampleswere dropped with KOH 10% and China ink (ParkerĀ®) then were left at room temperature for 10-15minutes. Samples were observed by microscope with a magnification of 100X and 400X gradually. Thedata were analyzed descriptively. In skin scraping and hair samples were found fungal elements, butcannot identify the species. Clinical lesions are seen in Bali cattle infected with ringworm include white, gray, or black (hyperpigmentation) circular alopecia accompanied by hyperkeratosis, scale, and crusting.Ringworm prevalence on Bali cattle in Bali is about 1.48%.. The prevalence rates associated with weatherfactors and maintenance system.

Abstract

This research was aimed to observe serum turbidity and blood sedimentation rate (ESR) as a predictorof hepatic damage in bali cattle. Two hundred whole blood and sera from 80 male and 120 female bullswere sampled from Mambal abbatoir, Badung, Bali. All blood were examined for their ESR and sera werefor their turbidity using ZnSO4 solution, besides we observed some hepatic damages pathology anatomicallywithout incision such as : internal bleeding, formation of connective tissue, swelling, and bile-ductenlargement. all of those damages were scaled graded from 0 (without abnormality) to 4 (more than 75%liver surface has abnormalities). Results showed all 86% bulls (male 32% and female 54%) have their seraturbidity ranged from 1,01-2,00, besides, 89% bulls (45% male and 44% female) have their ESR rangedfrom 3-8 mm in 24 hours. Most of liver abnormalities were : swelling (58%), bile-duct enlargement (50,5%),connective tissue formation (73%), and bleeding (59%) most of them were falling in scale 1 (less than 25%of liver surface area). Also, ESR has positive correlation (P<0,05) with connective tissue formation andserum turbidity value could be used to predict internal bleeding and connective tissue formation. It couldbe concluded ESR value could be used as a predictor of connective tissue formation and serum turbidityvalue could be used as a predictor for internal bleeding and connective tissue formation in bali cattle.

Abstract

This study aim was to observe cellular composition and morphology in peritoneal and synovial fluids ofbali ducks. This study used 50 ducks, which were composed of 21 males and 29 females aged 8 to 12 weeks. After being declared clinically healthy, the sample ducks were slaughtered and peritoneal fluid specimenfrom the abdominal cavity and the synovial fluid of joints tibiotarsal were collected. Then, in preparationfor the specimen, each of fluid was smeared and stained with Giemsa. Observations were made under amicroscope with a magnification of 1000 times and observations expressed in the average number of cellsper field of view observation. The results showed (duck population that most of the observed sample): inthe peritoneal fluid there was 36% eosinophils observed and 38% had heterophile cells with 0-3 cells perfield of magnification 1000x view. Similarly, 28% ducks had lymphocytes with 13-16 cells, and as much as28% of ducks had macrophage cells with 5- 8 cells in observation . In the synovial fluid, however, 64%sample ducks had monocytes, while 72% having lymphocytes with 1-18 cells each of view field withmagnification 1000x. In addition, in the synovial fluid, as much as 62% of ducks also observed had 1 to 3cells heterophiles and 60% ducks had eosinophils (polimorphonuclear cells) per view field observation.Macrophage cells that were found in the peritoneal fluid were mainly hyper granulated. It can be concludedthat the amount of mononuclear cells in both types of body fluids is likely more dominant compared to thenumber of polymorphonuclear cells.

Abstract

The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of tapak dara (Catharanthus roseus) onblood glucose level and insulin profile in hyperglicemic rabbits. Fifeteen local male rabbits were used forthis study. The rabbits were randomly divided into five groups. Group 1 (K-), a control negative group;group 2 (K+), a control positive hipergliccemia; group 3 (KT1) and group 4 (KT2), were groups hiperglicemiaand treated with water extract of tapak dara doses 1 and 2 g/kg bw, respectively; and group 5 (KO), a grouphiperglicemia that treated with glibenclamide 2 mg/kg bw. The result showed water extract of tapak daradose 1 g/kgbw could not decrease the blood glucose level in hyperglycemic rabbits, while dose 2 g/kg bwcould decline blood glucose level in rabbits. This decline had no significantly difference compared withglibenclamide treatment (P> 0.05). Immunohistchemistry result indicated that water extract of tapakdara could stimulate beta cells pancreas to produce insulin.

Abstract

Bawean Deer {Axis kuhlii (Temminck, 1836)} is an endemic deer species from Bawean island, Indonesia. Under the National Protection act, the species is listed as protected and in the IUCN is categorized as Critically Endangered. In order to maintain the existence of these species, wildlife conservation of germplasm is needed through development of technique of sperm cryopreservation for Bawean deer semen. The sperm were collected from captive animals in Station for Beef Cattle Research Center, Ministry of Agriculture, at Grati, Pasuruan, which consisted of two adult males and two sub-adult males. The research objective was to determine the quality and quantity of preserved sperm from captive deer Bawean in the form of frozen semen for conservation needs and further usage. Prior to sperm collections, the animal was anesthetized with mixture of xylazine and ketamin. Sperm was then collected by an electroejaculator using a 2-cm probe diameter and 17 cm of length. Extender solution used was tris glycerol. The semen was able to be collected only from two adult stags with sperm motility of 50-60% and sperm concentration was in the range of 500-1140 x 106sel/ml. This study suggested the need for monitoring the developmentof sperm in relation to antler development.

Abstract

Babesiosis is a parasitic disease in red blood cells due to protozoan infection of the genus Babesia which is transmitted through tick vectors. A 5-years-old male German shepherd had decreased appetite, weakness, and infestation of ticks throughout his body. Clinical examination showed Capillary Refill Time (CRT) <2 seconds, pale mouth mucosa, erythema throughout the body, philtrum was dry and slow skin turgor. The results of a complete blood examination of the dog had hyperchromic microcytic anemia and lymphocytopenia, while the results of blood smear showed the existence of intraerythrocyte inclusion bodies. The dog was diagnosed with Babesiosis and treated with Ringer Lactate fluid therapy, administration of Clindamycin (25mg/kg BW; PO), Oxytetracycline (15mg/kg BW; PO), Anti-inflammatory Dexamethasone (0.5-1mg/kg BW; PO) and Hematodine (1ml/5kg BB; IV) given for seven days. After treatment, the dog has increased appetite and after 14 days shows improvement in clinical signs.
