Abstract

This article discusses the virtues of knowledgeable people in Az-Zumar verse 9 which are discussed through the perspective of contemporary interpretation. This study aims to explore the meaning of ideal Islamic education, which not only increases the intellectual capacity of individuals but also forms good character and noble morals. Education in Islam is interpreted as a balanced process between the world and the hereafter, where knowledge becomes a light that illuminates the path to truth. This study uses a literature study approach by referring to primary sources from contemporary interpretation books, namely the interpretation of Al-Misbah, Al-Azhar, Asy-Syaamil fi Balaghatil Qur'an, and At-Tahrir wa At-Tanwir. The results of the study show that knowledgeable people have a higher degree in the sight of Allah. Education is able to form a young generation who are not only knowledgeable but also base their knowledge on their faith in Allah. The virtues of knowledgeable people include; being given guidance by Allah, given salvation from mistakes and humiliation, being able to distinguish between truth and falsehood, being independent in matters of religion and the world, and being obedient to science and Islamic law. This article also provides practical recommendations for parents and educators to instill the values of knowledge and faith in their children's education so that they can grow into a pious generation, have noble character, and be ready to carry out their role as caliphs on earth. Thus, the primacy of knowledgeable people in the perspective of Az-Zumar verse 9 is an important basis for building a better civilization.

Abstract

This study examines the extent to which kafaah nasabiyah can serve as a solution to strengthen household resilience amid rising divorce rates caused by social, economic, and cultural disparities in an increasingly heterogeneous society. The research employs a qualitative approach with a library research design. Primary data is sourced from the works of Ibn Qudamah, such as al-Mughni, and Ibn Hazm through al-Muhalla, supplemented by secondary data from classical and contemporary fiqh literature, Islamic legal documents, and jurisprudential analyses in Indonesia. The data analysis technique involves a descriptive-analytical method with a comparative approach to identify commonalities and differences in the thoughts of both scholars and their implications for the practice of Islamic law in Indonesia. The findings reveal that kafaah nasabiyah holds historical and sociological significance in maintaining household stability. Ibn Qudamah supports the concept as a means to prevent disharmony caused by social disparities, while Ibn Hazm rejects it, arguing that Islam does not impose lineage-based restrictions on marriage. Both in the scope of Islamic boarding schools, madrasas, or premarital education programs, Ibn Qudamah’s perspective is more widely adopted in social practices, particularly in communities that continue to uphold lineage-based stratification when selecting marriage partners. However, this study also finds that the primary causes of divorce in Indonesia are more closely related to economic and psychological factors rather than mere lineage incompatibility. Therefore, while kafaah nasabiyah may be a consideration in marriage, it is not a determinant factor in divorce mitigation. Instead, a more comprehensive, multidimensional approach is required.

Abstract

The discipline of Arabic rhetoric (balāghah) has a profound interconnection with philosophy, particularly through its reliance on mantiq (logic), which employs structured language to convey meaning. The central problem addressed in this study is the extent to which philosophical thought has shaped the development of balāghah, especially in its methods and analytical frameworks. The aim of this research is to explore the philosophical underpinnings of Arabic rhetoric by examining the contributions of Amin al-Khuli, with a primary reference to his seminal work Manāhij Tajdīd fī al-Naḥw wa al-Balāghah wa al-Tafsīr wa al-Adab. Employing a qualitative library research method, this study gathers and analyzes data from classical texts, scholarly books, and relevant journal articles. The findings reveal three significant points. First, balāghah developed along two major methodological paths: the school of the mutakallimūn and the school of the udabāʾ. Second, the integration of philosophy into rhetorical studies unfolded in three stages: the phase of introduction, the phase of translation, and the phase of development and elaboration, particularly from the second Islamic century onward. Amin al-Khuli highlights this historical trajectory, emphasizing the role of early rhetoricians during this era, when philosophical thought had become widely disseminated among Muslim intellectuals. Third, the study demonstrates a strong correlation between philosophy and rhetoric, as both disciplines discuss overlapping concepts such as terminology, propositions, definitions, classifications, and syllogisms, all of which ultimately converge in the field of mantiq. This research contributes to the broader understanding of Arabic rhetoric by showing how philosophical reasoning enriched its theoretical foundations. It also provides new insights into the intellectual legacy of Amin al-Khuli, who reinterpreted balāghah in light of philosophical traditions, thereby shaping modern approaches to Arabic literary and linguistic studies.
