Abstract

A longitudinal study of syntax acquisition in three-year-old children provides a deeper understanding of how children develop their language abilities. By summarizing the findings from this research, we hope to take concrete steps to support optimal language development in the early stages of a child's life. This research uses the literature review research method, the literature review research method is an approach that involves examining and analyzing existing literature or research to gain a thorough understanding of a topic or research question. This process begins by determining the research topic and searching for relevant literature through various sources such as academic databases and digital libraries. The findings of this research provide a strong basis for designing early childhood education programs that pay attention to syntax acquisition patterns. Learning materials can be arranged according to children's developmental stages to support their optimal development. In addition, this research confirms that understanding language development at an early age can act as an indicator of children's psychological health. Monitoring syntax acquisition can help detect potential developmental problems or disorders early, opening up opportunities for more effective intervention.

Abstract

This article aims to determine the effect of using Quizlet application on students’ vocabulary mastery at the MA Laboratory UINSU Medan. The method used is a pre e-experimental design with a quantitative approach. The population that was the research subject was tenth-grade students at MA Laboratorium Uinsu Medan. Consisting of 22 students in it. The researcher gave a pre-test - treatment – and post-test to all samples to collect the required data. After that, the data was processed using the T-test in SPSS.The research findings indicated that the mean pretest score for students was 51.36, whereas the post-test score averaged 83.63. These results indicate a rise in student’s scores from the pre-test to the post-test. It was concluded the implementation of the Quizlet application was found to have a significant impact on student’s comprehension of vocabulary. Keywords: Use, Quizlet Application, Vocabulary Mastery

Abstract

Perkembangan ajaran tarekat di Indonesia dimulai sejak abad ke-18 M dengan berbagai jenis aliran tarekat dan latar belakangnya, akan tetapi yang terbesar tetap Tarekat Naqsyabandiyah. Tarekat merupakan salah satu tradisi dalam pandangan keagaman Islam yang diprediksi telah ada sejak Nabi Muhammad saw masih hidup. Tujuan utama dalam mengikuti tarekat adalah tertanamnya sebuah cinta dari seseorang hamba kepada Allah Swt melalui ketekunan serta keikhlasan dalam melakukan syariatNya. Didalam sebuah sejarah Islam tarekat sudah ada pertama kali sejak abad ke-3 dan ke-4 hijriah. Tarekat mulai berkembang didalam dunia Islam sejak pertengahan abad ke-6 hijriah. Tarekat pertama kali diajarkan serta dilakukan oleh Syekh Abdul Qadir al-Jailani 470-561 H bernama Tarekat Qadariyah. Metode penelitian yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini berdasarkan pada pendekatan mengenai Sejarah Sosial yang berkaitan pada peristiwa sosial-keagamaan, menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif, penelitian lapangan yang melihat realistas kehidupan sosial langsung di tengah tengah masyarakat, pendekatan deskriptif digunakan dalam proses mencari data yang berbentuk tulisan maupun ungkapan daripada narasumber yang ada di lapangan. Berdasarkan akan permasalahan tersebut peneliti dapat menyimpulkan bahwa masyarakat di desa Pudun Julu kota Padangsidimpuan telah mengikuti ajaran Syekh Zainal Abidin Harahap tentang bertarekat naqsabandiyah dengan cara membangun kembali pusat kegiatan keagamaan di desa tersebut seperti pengajian, wirid yasin dan sebagainya sehingga menghasilkan peranan Syekh Zainal Abidin Harahap dalam menyebarkan ajaran Tarekat Naqsabandiyah di desa Pudun Julu.

Abstract

In this research journal, the author analyzes the interest of Madrasah Aliyah Laboratorium State Islamic University of North Sumatra Medan students in learning English Language in class. The focus of this research is to find some defening factors that faced students in learning English Language. The study is done by taking students randomly from the Madrasah Aliyah Laboratorium State Islamic University of North Sumatra Medan. This study uses a classical and individual approach in collecting qualitative and quantitative data. The data obtained were obtained from the results of student learning exploration in the classroom and conducting interviews with students. The results show that the determinant of increasing or decreasing students interest in learning English in class is determined by the method used by the teacher in learning and the completeness of learning facilities. In connection with the research results obtained, it is suggested that teachers can use learning methods that are preferred by students so that students get a high sense of motivation to learn English in the classroom.

Abstract

This research the aim was to find out how to collect data from several teachers at the MTs Al-Washliyah Tebing Tinggi. Data collection was carried out by giving teachers a questionnaire in the form of questions related to the problem to be studied using quantitative and qualitative methods. From the research results it can be seen that most teachers strongly agree that lesson plans have an important role to support the success of the learning process. Among them there were 4 teachers who strongly agreed and 1 teacher who agreed. There were no teachers who disagreed with the questions we asked. This means that almost 80% of teachers in schools strongly agree and 20% of teachers only agree with this question.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berupaya untuk mengangkat masalah aktual pada masyarakat Indonesia yaitu mengenai keberadaan dan kondisi sosial budaya masyarakat pinggir rel yang dianggap sebagai masyarakat segregasi, yakni untuk mendeskripsikan realitas kehidupan masyarakat pinggir rel kereta api dan mengidentifikasi moral masyarakat pinggir rel kereta api Kelurahan Pulo Brayan Bengkel. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif yang berjenis studi lapangan dengan menggunakan pendekatan filsafat. Dengan demikian penelitian ini bermodel penelitian mengenai masalah aktual. Hasil dari penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa; 1) Pada umumnya masyarakat pinggir rel Kelurahan Pulo Brayan Bengkel tamatan SD dan SMP, sehingga membuat mereka sulit mendapatkan pekerjaan yang layak, dan karena kesulitan mendapatkan pekerjaan yang layak, membuat mereka berada dalam keadaan kondisi ekonomi yang tidak berkecukupan. Akibatnya mereka secara ‘terpaksa’ untuk hidup dan bertahan di daerah pinggir rel kereta api dengan sarana dan prasarana yang kurang memadai. Dengan demikian mereka tidak memilih untuk melanggar aturan dengan membangun hunian di pinggiran rel kereta api, namun sebenarnya mereka tidak memiliki pilihan untuk membangun hunian untuk bertahan hidup. 2) Masyarakat pinggir rel Kelurahan Pulo Brayan memiliki moral yang cukup baik, hal tersebut dapat dilihat dari solidaritas mereka yang tinggi kendatipun mereka berbeda suku dan agama, contohnya ialah mereka tetap saling membantu kebutuhan dalam hal pangan walaupun kehidupan ekonomi dalam keadaan susah. Selain para orang tua memberikan pembelajaran moral yang baik pada anak-anaknya untuk dapat menjadi insan yang berguna, kendatipun beberapa remaja memiliki moralitas yang kurang baik tetapi hal tersebut adalah sesuatu hal yang lumrah di dalam psikologi perkembangan remaja. Sehingga kenakalan remaja yang berhuni di pinggir rel kereta api tidak sepenuhnya di sebabkan oleh tempat tinggal mereka yang tidak layak, sebab pada kenyataannya remaja yang hidup dengan berkecukupan sekalipun juga melakukan tindakan kriminal yang berat

Abstract

This study aims to find out and understand students' perspectives regarding the impact of syntax courses on their ability to speak English. This is motivated by the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application of syntax in the real world. To answer these problems, this study used a descriptive qualitative case approach to capture the comprehensive picture needed to answer the research questions. The data collection technique used interviews, by interviewing a number of students by asking 3 questions regarding the impact of syntax courses on their English language skills. The research was conducted at one of the Islamic Universities in Medan. The researcher interviewed 10 students who had studied the syntax course. The findings of the interviews are described descriptively. From the 3 questions asked, the results showed that: 1) During studying syntax in one semester, students can improve their knowledge of grammar and basic rules of English sentence structure: motivating them to better understand tree diagrams. 2) The impact of syntax course on students' language skills is the impact on writing, reading, and listening skills but the greatest impact on writing skills. Thus, syntax courses have a very positive impact on students' English language skills, not only in theoretical understanding but also in practical application.

Abstract

This article reviews a syntax-based analysis of predication in language, delving into its underlying linguistic structure. The research conducted employs analytical methods sourced from literature to comprehend sentence construction and the syntactic relationships forming predication. The findings of the analysis present a profound understanding of the framework of predication in language and its implications in human communication. In the exploration of syntax and predication in linguistics, the syntactic approach highlights the essential relationship between subject and predicate in a sentence. Predication maps what is stated about the subject, and syntax-based analysis reveals its basic structure. Syntax, with its central role, is key to understanding sentence structure and the meaning conveyed in communication. Research on this concept shows how the arrangement of words, phrases, and clauses forms predication.

Abstract

This qualitative study examines the acquisition and understanding of syntax in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at the undergraduate level. The research explores students' perceptions of syntax, classroom instruction methods, challenges encountered, and the role of context and practice in developing syntax understanding. Data collection methods include classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with undergraduate students enrolled in EFL programs. Thematic analysis is used to identify patterns and themes in the data, providing insights into the complexities of syntax acquisition in EFL contexts. The findings reveal diverse perceptions of syntax among students, highlighting the need for tailored instructional approaches. Classroom observations demonstrate the use of various teaching methods and materials, emphasizing the importance of a balanced approach to syntax instruction. Students report challenges in acquiring syntax, such as understanding complex structures and applying grammar rules accurately, underscoring the need for targeted interventions and support. The study also emphasizes the role of context and practice in developing syntax understanding, with students valuing real-life examples and interactive activities. Based on the findings, the study suggests several implications for EFL instruction, including the need for diverse instructional strategies, an integrated skills approach, the use of authentic materials and contexts, and individualized support. Future research directions are proposed, including longitudinal studies, comparative analyses, investigations into the effectiveness of instructional strategies, and the exploration of technology-enhanced learning. By addressing these research gaps, scholars can contribute to the development of evidence-based practices that support EFL learners in mastering syntax and achieving proficiency in English.

Abstract

Building vocabulary is crucial to improving students' language skills, yet many EFL students find it difficult to pick up a wide enough vocabulary using conventional teaching techniques. This study aims to investigate how students view the British Council Learn English platform as a digital resource for vocabulary development. Fifteen Junior high school students who had been active platform users for at least a month participated in semi-structured interviews as part of a qualitative descriptive technique to gather data. Key themes were identified through the use of thematic analysis. According to the results, students thought the platform was helpful, efficient, and interesting for vocabulary development, especially because of its interactive content, contextualized learning resources, and audiovisual elements. Nevertheless, many drawbacks were identified, including the absence of speaking practice and the repetitive nature of the activity formats. These findings imply that although the platform greatly facilitates vocabulary acquisition, more work is required to meet students' more extensive language requirements. To optimize the platform's pedagogical potential and student happiness, educators and developers are advised to incorporate elements that encourage speaking practice, collaborative learning, and content variety.
