Abstract

A phenomena increased use of health supplement in Samarinda community is lasting since COVID-19 pandemic. The people knowledge about health supplement consumption a are dominantly received from advertisement and published article on internet. However, not all of the informations are correct. Therefore, this community service program was a webinar and interactive discussion about the use of health supplement, in a zoom meeting media. The pretest and post test were used to evaluate the benefit of this program.  From a total of 67 participants, 37 of them fill the pretest form, and 28 fill the posttest form. As many as 92% of participants believe that health supplements keeps body healthy, and 43% of them routinely consumed health supplements. After our explanation and discussion session, 86% participants stated that very much new information they received, ang 50% of them said that their way to use health supplement were not fully correct. As many as 93% participants satisfied to this community service program. It can be concluded that this education program was successful.

Abstract

Background: Bitter gourd has various metabolites, such as momordicosides, polypeptide-P, v-insulin, charantin, and vicine that have antidiabetic effect. It has synergistically effect while combined with oral diabetic drugs, such as metformin as glucose lowering agent. The aim of this study is to investigate the interaction of bitter gourd fruit juice and metformin as glucose lowering agent in mice.Materials and Methods: Alloxan-induced diabetic mice were treated with bitter gourd fruit juice, metformin, and the combination of those two for 21 days. Glucose level was checked on first and last day of treatment.Results: Furthermore, blood glucose levels measurement showed no significant difference between groups compared with negative control, which was p>0.05. The stomach of groups that treated with metformin and bitter gourd fruit juice histopathologically showed no significant differences.Conclusion: The use of bitter gourd once daily together with metformin is a better choice, while twice daily might induce hypoglycemia and mice death. There is no interaction between them on lowering blood glucose.Keywords: metformin, Momordica charantia, diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Kalanchoe pinnata (Lmk) Pers is a medicinal plant that has many activities, such as antioxidant, anti-infl ammation and immunosuppressant activities. Based on our previous study, aqueous extract of this plant leaves has a repairing eff ect on lupus nephritis model. The expected active compounds are flavonoids. Those compounds are separated in the ethyl acetate fraction. Therefore, this study observed the activity of the ethyl acetate fraction of Kalanchoe pinnata (Lmk) Pers on reducing the level of Anti- Smith autoantibody and the regulation function of CD4+CD25+ T reg in lupus mice. The experimental groups were a negative control group that received placebo, ethyl acetate fraction of Kalanchoe pinnata (Lmk) Pers (EF-KP) group and a positive control group that received cyclophosphamide. The anti-Sm level was measured by using indirect ELISA. The spleen cells were prepared for CD4+CD25+ T reg assay using fl ow cytometry. The result of this experiment was a reduction of anti-Sm antibody level. The decrease was suffi cient to stabilize lupus condition. The fl ow cytometry assay results showed the increase in the relative percentage of CD4+CD25+ T reg. This function can inhibit the reactivity of autoantigens, so it prevents tissue and organ damage from lupus. However, further research is needed to observe the complete mechanism.

Abstract

Beberapa tahun terakhir ini usaha air minum isi ulang telah berkembang pesat di di Indonesia, khususnya di Kota Samarinda. Setiap usaha air minum wajib melakukan pemeriksaan mutu produk sesuai dengan peraturan yang berlaku. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk memperoleh gambaran kualitas aspek mikrobiologi air minum isi ulang yang dijual di tiga depo air minum isi ulang di Samarinda. Pengujian mikrobiologis dilakukan meliputi pemeriksaan angka cemaran bakteri dengan metode angka lempeng total (ALT), pemeriksaan mikrobiologis dengan Most Probable Number (MPN), serta pemeriksaan bakteri koliform dan bakteri patogen, seperti Escherichia coli, Salmonella thyposa, dan Staphylococcus aureus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada satupun sampel yang melebihi batas yang dipersyaratkan dalam air minum serta sampel yang diuji tidak mengandung Escherichia coli dan Salmonella thyposa, namun 2 sampel mengandung bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

Metformin dengan jahe ketika digunakan bersamaan efek antidiabetes yang dimiliki keduanya bekerja secara sinergis dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa darah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat interaksi yang terjadi akibat penggunaan perasan jahe dan metformin yang dilihat dari perubahan kadar glukosa darah dan organ mencit diabetes. Mencit diabetes yang telah diinduksi alloksan dibagi menjadi enam kelompok dan diobati dengan metformin, perasan jahe, kombinasi perasan jahe dan metformin 1x1 dan kombinasi perasan jahe dan metformin 2x1 selama empat hari. Kadar glukosa darah di ukur sebelum dan sesudah pengobatan selama empat hari berturut-turut. Data berat badan yang didapatkan menunjukkan terjadi penurunan berat badan namun tidak signifikan (p>0,05) Nilai signifikansi perubahan kadar glukosa darah saat dianalisis menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan dengan nilai (p<0,05). Untuk, index organ hati dan lambung yang diberi perlakuan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dengan nilai (p<0,05). Degenerasi pada sel hepar berkurang saat diobati dengan perasan jahe, maupun kombinasi perasan jahe dengan metformin. Penggunaan jahe dengan metformin sekali sehari dapat menurunkan kadar glukosa darah tanpa menimbulkan resiko hipoglikemik dan degenerasi sel hepar.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Antikonvulsan adalah obat yang dikembangkan untuk menghambat penyebaran kejang di otak dengan menekan penembakan neuron yang cepat dan berlebihan. Biasanya, antikonvulsan digunakan oleh pasien gangguan jiwa yang mengalami kejang, sulit tidur, dan rasa cemas yang berlebihan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pola penggunaan obat antikonvulsan pada pasien gangguan jiwa dan mengetahui karakteristik pasien yang menerima terapi antikonvulsan periode Januari-Desember 2018. Jenis penelitian ini adalah non-eksperimental dengan metode retrospektif dari catatan rekam medis 52 pasien rawat jalan dan rawat inap dengan diagnosa penyakit gangguan kejiwaan yaitu dimensia, depresi, bipolar, dan skizofrenia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik pasien dengan jenis kelamin perempuan (65,38%), usia 26-35 tahun (25%), dan tidak bekerja (78,84%) lebih rentan terkena gangguan kejiwaan. Sedangkan pola penggunaan obat antikonvulsan yang digunakan pada Rumah Sakit Jiwa Daerah Atma Husada Mahakam Samarinda adalah benzodiazepine (84,61%), obat asam valproate (5,76%), dan hidantoin (1,92%).

Abstract

Kuersetin merupakan senyawa golongan falvonoid yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dan antiinflamasi yang tinggi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendapatkan hasil formula yang baik, mengetahui efektivitas gel kuersetin sebagai obat luka sayat pada kelinci, dan mendapatkan penetrasi kuersetin yang baik. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara mengevaluasi fisik gel meliputi uji organoleptik, homogenitas, pH, viskositas, dan daya sebar, hasil dianalisis menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan one-way ANOVA. Pengujian efektivitas luka sayat menggunakan kelinci dan dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok percobaan, hasil dianalisis menggunakan analisis deskripif dan kruskal-wallis. Pengujian penetrasi gel menggunakan membran kulit kelinci, hasil dianalisis menggunakan uji t. Hasil evaluasi organoleptik dan homogenitas tidak ada perubahan selama waktu penyimanan 3 minggu, pH 5,00-5,20, viskositas 28,00-28,76 Pa.s, dan daya sebar 5,77-5,87 cm. Hasil analisis efektivitas gel terhadap luka sayat yaitu 0,002 (p<0,05). Hasil penetrasi gel pada kulit normal: kulit luka adalah 62,45%: 75,51%, hasil analisis yaitu 0,003 (p<0,05). Formula gel kuersetin yang dihasilkan stabil selama penyimpanan 3 minggu pada suhu ruang (±25°-30°C), serta memiliki aktivitas dan penetrasi yang baik terhadap penyembuhan luka sayat pada kelinci.

Abstract

Aloe vera has the potential to increase hair growth rate and sun protection so it is suitable to be formulated in serum. The purpose of this study was to produce a serum formula that meets the standards and produce a serum that has an effect in increasing hair growth rate and sun protection.This study was conducted to make aloe vera serum formula in third variation of the active substance and do a physical evaluation. Data from the physical evaluation test results and for hair growth and sun protection using analyzed statistic. The test results aloe vera serum organopetic clear white with a thick consistency and oleum rosae fragrance. Aloe vera serum have a homogenity dispersion with a viscosity of between 0.023 to 0.058 (Pa.s), the pH value between 5.7 to 6.1 and the spreadability between 6-7 cm. Aloe vera serum is stable for 3 weeks storage at room temperature. Aloe vera serum seen qualitative and quantitative has the effect of hair growth that is equivalent to the positive control (minoxidil) in the treatment for 21 days, and sun protection don’t have effect.

Abstract

Mecca leaf (Albertisia papuana Becc.) Is a plant that is used as a flavor enhancer by the Dayak Ethnic community in East Kalimantan. The purpose of this study was to determine the chemical parameter content of Pb and Cd metals in simplicia and mekai leaf water extracts and to find out the toxicity of mekai leaf water extracts on kidney, liver and spleen of mice. Measurement of chemical parameters namely Pb and Cd metal levels in simplicia and water extracts using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS / AAS) and acute toxicity of water extracts of mekai leaves was done in vivo on test animals with dose variations of 0.105 mg, 2.1 mg, and 42 mg was given to test animals, pharmacological screening was observed, proteinuria levels were carried out using NOVA test® strips, body weight and organ index of mice. The results of measurements of Pb and Cd metal levels in simplicia and extracts of water contained lead as much as 0.851 ppm and 0.642 ppm (<0.10 ppm) and cadmium as much as 0.220 ppm and 0.027 ppm (<0.3 ppm). The result of the toxicity of mekai leaf water extract has LD50>42 mg non-toxic to experimental animals and can stimulate the effects of the central nervous system on experimental animal behavior. So it can be concluded that simplicia and water extract of mekai leaves have Pb and Cd metal content below standard and can stimulate the central nervous system of experimental animals.

Abstract

Gastric ulcer is a condition of damage to the gastric mucosa accompanied by an inflammatory process. Gastric mucosal damage can be induced by various factors, one of which is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The purpose of this study was to assess the appropriate dose and time as a cause of damage to the gastric mucosa of mice due to exposure to aspirin. Before being induced, mice were fasted for 24 hours, white mice DDY strains (Deutschland, Denkenand and Yoken) were divided into 3 groups namely normal groups, aspirin 14 mg / 20 g BW (1 day), aspirin 14 mg / 20 g BW (2 days) orally. The results showed that the aspirin induced group 14mg / 20g BW had the most significant weight loss of mice, and showed the most severe epithelial tissue damage to the gastric mucosa with mucosal integrity score based on Barthel Manja criteria, namely 1. It can be concluded that the right dose of aspirin as an induction of damage to the gastric mucosa of mice is a dose of 14mg / 20 g BW (2 days).
