Abstract

Background: Excessive smartphone use has a negative impact on health, especially in the adolescent age group. Adolescent females who screen time for two hours or more a day after school have the potential to experience psychological distress. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between screen time behavior and psychological distress in high school adolescent females. Methods: This quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. The research locations were carried out in three schools, namely SMA (Senior High School) 9 Balikpapan, SMA 2 Samboja and SMA 3 Penajam Paser Utara. The population was 1,112 adolescent females and the sample was 272 adolescent females. The sampling technique used was proportional random sampling. The analysis test used the chi-square test. Variable measurements of screen time and psychological distress are used in the Questionnaire for Screen Time of Adolescents and the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale. Results: The p-value < 0.05 means that there is a relationship between screen time and psychological distress in high school adolescent females. Conclusion: Excessive screen time has an impact on the psychological distress of high school females. There is a need to increase mental health literacy and support for parents and schools in restricting the use of smartphones at home and at school. Pengukuran variabel screen time dan tekanan psikologis menggunakan Questionnaire for Screen Time of Adolescents dan Kessler Psychological Distress Scale. Hasil: Nilai p-value < 0,05 yang artinya ada hubungan antara screen time dengan tekanan psikologis pada remaja putri sekolah menengah atas. Abstract

Background. Mental health disorders have become a significant global concern, with the Global Health Data Exchange reporting approximately 970 million individuals worldwide—equivalent to one in eight people—suffering from mental health issues, primarily depression and anxiety. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable due to academic and non-academic pressures. Experiential learning, an active educational approach, may serve as an effective method to enhance adolescent knowledge and self-efficacy regarding mental health. Objective. To analyze the effectiveness of the experiential learning method in improving adolescents’ knowledge and self-efficacy related to mental health. Method. This study employed a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design, conducted at a senior high school in Balikpapan City. A total of 30 students were selected purposively from a population of 444. Knowledge data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, while self-efficacy data were analyzed using the paired t-test. Results. The N-Gain score was 0.65, indicating that the experiential learning method was moderately effective in improving students' knowledge and self-efficacy. Conclusion. Experiential learning is effective in enhancing adolescent understanding and confidence in managing mental health issues. This method is recommended as an interactive educational strategy and could be extended to other health topics to promote youth well-being.

Abstract

Background : Hypertension represents one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia and serves as a major contributor to cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Its prevalence continues to rise nationwide, and in Loa Raya Village, hypertension has been recognized as a significant public health concern, affecting 53% of the adult population. Despite this high prevalence, the underlying factors contributing to hypertension in this community remain insufficiently understood. Objective : This study aims to identify and analyze the factors associated with the occurrence of hypertension among residents of Loa Raya Village. The research focuses on examining demographic and lifestyle-related variables that may contribute to increased blood pressure within the community. This study employed a descriptive survey with a cross-sectional design conducted from June 18 to 20, 2025, in RT 1 and RT 2 of Loa Raya Village. A total of 64 household representatives aged between 27 and 78 years participated as respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-square (χ²) test to determine the relationship between independent variables and hypertension status. The Chi-square test showed that age (p = 0.640) and gender (p = 0.215) had no significant association with hypertension status among residents of Loa Raya Village. In contrast, smoking behavior (p = 0.011) and engaging in physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day (p = 0.048) demonstrated a significant association with hypertension status. These indicate that smoking and insufficient physical activity are factors associated with a higher incidence of hypertension. Conclusion/Lesson Learned : Smoking behavior and insufficient physical activity were found to be significantly associated with the prevalence of hypertension in Loa Raya Village. In contrast, age and gender showed no significant association with hypertension status, indicated that lifestyle-related factors play a more substantial role in influencing blood pressure regulation within this community.

Abstract

The Effectiveness of the GEMES Program (Healthy Media Movement) in Improving the Knowledge of Mothers and Cadres at Posyandu Buah Hati Bunda in Samarinda. Posyandu is an essential primary healthcare service that plays a crucial role in supporting maternal and child health. However, low community participation in Posyandu Buah Hati Bunda is due to a lack of understanding among mothers about the importance of Posyandu and the services it provides. To address this issue, training was conducted for Posyandu cadres on creating informative and engaging posters. This activity aimed to enhance the cadres’ skills in delivering health information and increase community participation. The training used the Canva design application and involved Posyandu cadres, neighborhood leaders, and mothers with infants and toddlers in RT 13, Lok Bahu Village, Samarinda. Pre-test and post-test evaluations showed a significant improvement in mothers’ understanding of the importance of Posyandu after receiving education through the posters. The posters produced are not only used as an educational medium but are also planned to be routinely distributed through digital media and displayed in strategic locations. This program demonstrates that enhancing Posyandu cadres’ skills in creating effective informational media can raise community awareness, support the success of Posyandu activities, and improve maternal and child health.

Abstract

COVID-19 has been countered in the community by implementing health protocols and providing COVID-19 vaccines in order to prevent transmission, morbidity, and mortality. This program is one of the promotion activities of using print media and mobile broadcasts to educate the public about health protocols and COVID-19 vaccines in mass. The goal of this project is to improve public access to health-related information and COVID-19 vaccines. The PRECEDE-PROCEED method has been used to plan the program, and the fishbone method has been used to analyze the reasons of the problem, followed by the implementation stage and evaluation. The activities leads to the formation of a collaboration with the District Health Office to create a variety of printed health promotion media, as well as the implementation of mobile broadcasts using official operational automobiles that directly target community. Several communities and health promotion officers from the local health office participated in the evaluation, which received a positive response using a simple online questionnaire instrument. Suggestions for relevant health organizations to keep improving IEC media with current information and mobile broadcasting operations so that they might reach out to other people in areas that are crowded but also have limited access to health information on a regular basis.
