Abstract

This research aims to analyze and describe local community-based plastic waste management in Bangun Village, Mojokerto Regency. This research method is a case study because it is based on efforts to understand plastic waste management practices in Bangun Village, identify the role of the community in the plastic waste management process, and evaluate the social, economic, and environmental impacts of local community-based plastic waste management. The research results show the waste management cycle, where at the downstream industrial level, waste producers supply waste to the community, in this case as scavengers. Then, scavengers sell the waste to collectors. Next, collectors sell the waste they buy from scavengers to other consumer industries. The point of the problem occurs at the level of scavengers and collectors, where two cycles occur. However, there is no added value from waste managed by the community. This can be detrimental to the community itself in waste management, both in economic, social, and environmental aspects. For this reason, government intervention is needed to improve the community-based plastic waste management system in Bangun Villages through institutional restructuring to shorten the waste distribution cycle. It is recommended to strengthen support and cooperation from various parties, including the government, society, and the private sector, which is very necessary to create a waste management system that is inclusive, sustainable, and provides benefits for all interested parties. Abstract

Conflicts among farmers over water resource management are often a significant problem, especially during the dry season. This is made all the more complex by the fact that these problems occur on a protracted basis without any concrete action being taken to resolve them. One of these realities occurs in the community of Kedungrejo Village, Malang District. The emergence of catfish cultivation is an alternative business and an effort to form a space for community consensus in discussion. This study analyzes the role of catfish farming as a consensus space in two forms of questions. First, how is the relevance between the hadith about deliberation and catfish cultivation as a community consensus space? Second, how is the impact of catfish farming as a consensus space in breaking the tension in the community? Using a descriptive qualitative approach and Miles and Huberman's analysis, this study found that catfish farming is not only an alternative economic solution but also fosters social solidarity through deliberation. Meanwhile, the hadith about deliberation in farmers' socio-economic practices confirms that Islamic values can be applied in community life. As a result, catfish cultivation in Kedungrejo is proof that deliberation can be a tool for conflict resolution while improving community welfare.

Abstract

Rapid urbanization in Malang City's peri-urban areas has reduced agricultural land and increased economic pressure on farmers, leading to a decline in active farmers. To cope with these challenges, farmers develop resilience strategies to sustain their livelihoods. However, research on peri-urban farmer resilience remains limited, particularly in linking cultural and economic dimensions to survival strategies. This study analyzes farmer resilience patterns in response to land use changes and urbanization pressures. A qualitative approach was employed, using in-depth interviews and participatory observation with five landowner farmers and one key informant, a village official in Kedungrejo Village, Malang Regency. Findings identify five key resilience strategies: (1) perception of land as sacred ancestral heritage, (2) family solidarity, (3) financial adaptation through productive debt systems, (4) job diversification, and (5) Application of the life philosophy of Nrimo Ing Pandum values. These strategies are linear and flexible, allowing farmers to transition between resilience forms as needed. Theoretically, this study expands agrarian resilience discourse by integrating coping, adaptive, and transformative capacities in a dynamic peri-urban context. Practically, it offers policy recommendations, including incentives for farmland preservation and livelihood diversification programs within the agricultural sector, ensuring social and ecological stability in peri-urban areas

Abstract

Cultural festivals are vital for sustainable tourism and destination branding, yet many struggle with management inefficiencies. This study examines the relationship between event management, sustainable tourism, and destination branding in Cempluk Village, East Java, Indonesia. This study employs a quantitative approach, collecting primary data through Likert-scale surveys. A total of 200 respondents familiar with tourism in Cempluk Village were selected via incidental and purposive sampling. Validity and reliability tests ensured data accuracy, while multiple regression analysis examined direct and indirect relationships between variables. Findings reveal a significant positive relationship between event management, sustainable tourism, and destination branding. Effective event management enhances sustainable tourism, which, in turn, strengthens destination branding. Additionally, sustainable tourism mediates the impact of event management on destination branding. These insights provide practical implications for policymakers and stakeholders in community-based tourism. Implementing structured event management strategies and sustainability principles can boost local economic growth, cultural preservation, and tourism viability. The study highlights the need for collaborative efforts to optimize cultural festivals as sustainable tourism assets.

Abstract

AbstractThe irrigation and waste management systems in Kedungrejo Village face several serious challenges, including the sabotage of water flow, blockage of irrigation channels due to waste, and low public awareness regarding environmental cleanliness. The community service activities through the Reciprocity-Based Integrated Institutional Arrangement (P-KTR) program were conducted to address these challenges. The initiative engages key stakeholders in the institutional system, including the Village Government, Waste Management Association, Farmer Groups, Kuwowo (village irrigation managers), Waker (water gate operators), and local community members as primary actors. The village government acts as a regulator and facilitator, while community groups are responsible for technical implementation in the field. The results of the program indicate an increase in community understanding and involvement in sustainable irrigation and waste management. The strength of this model lies in its cross-sectoral integration, collective participation, and citizen incentives based on contribution. Remaining challenges include low discipline in waste fee payments and the need to strengthen coordination mechanisms among actors. Future institutional development should prioritize technical capacity building, digital transformation of monitoring systems, and strengthening sustainable collaboration with academic institutions and local governments.Consistent implementation of this model is expected to promote sustainable agriculture, a cleaner village environment, and long- term community well-being. Keywords: irrigation; waste management; institutional arrangement; reciprocity.

Abstract

This study examines the pandek traditional work system in ornamental grass farming in Sukolilo Village, Wajak District, Malang Regency, as a form of social capital that supports the sustainability of farmer communities. Pandek is a traditional work pattern without formal contracts based on trust, norms of reciprocity, and kinship networks. The research uses a qualitative approach with an explanatory case study method, and is analyzed through Putnam's social capital theory, specifically the concepts of bonding and bridging capital. The results show that the pandek system helps farmers save up to 20% of production costs through efficiency based on social solidarity. Bonding capital is evident in the relationship between large farmers who share information and resources, while the relationship between farmers and pandek laborers forms a patron-client pattern as a form of bridging capital. This system supports sustainability in three key aspects: economic (efficiency and job stability), social (cohesion and equitable resource distribution), and ecological (chemical-free agricultural practices). However, this system harbors a paradox: sustainability is achieved through unequal labor relations and low labor wages. Therefore, policy innovation based on strengthening social capital is needed to create more equitable sustainability at the local level.
