Abstract

Environmental awareness among elementary students remains inadequate despite its critical importance for sustainable development. This qualitative case study investigated poster media implementation to foster environmental awareness at SD Inpres 3 Talise, examining implementation processes, behavioral changes, and obstacles encountered by educators. Twenty-four students from grades III, IV, and V, three homeroom teachers, and the school principal participated. Data were collected through systematic observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentary evidence, analyzed using the Miles and Huberman framework with triangulation for validity. Results revealed that strategically positioned posters combined with peer modeling effectively enhanced environmental awareness, with fifth-grade students demonstrating autonomous environmental behaviors, fourth-grade students showing consistent conduct requiring occasional reinforcement, and third-grade students displaying gradual improvements with substantial teacher guidance. Unexpected findings included spontaneous peer mentoring dynamics and location-dependent poster effectiveness. Seven implementation obstacles emerged: inconsistent student attention, attitude-behavior gaps, novelty effects, suboptimal placement, resource limitations, inadequate pedagogical integration, and limited teacher understanding of visual media pedagogy. Findings align with Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning, Bandura's Social Learning Theory, and Ajzen's Theory of Planned Behavior, demonstrating that posters function optimally as pedagogically integrated tools requiring strategic placement, content refreshment, and instructional reinforcement rather than passive displays. This study contributes practical insights for implementing cost-effective visual media interventions in resource-constrained educational settings.

Abstract

Conventional science instruction in Indonesian elementary schools often fails to adequately engage students, particularly when teaching complex anatomical concepts requiring three-dimensional visualization. This study developed and evaluated Assemblr Edu-based Augmented Reality (AR) learning media for the five senses topic in fourth-grade science education. Employing the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), the research was conducted at Karuna Dipa Elementary School, Palu, involving 16 fourth-grade students. Expert validation assessed media validity through structured questionnaires. Practicality was evaluated via user response questionnaires from six students and one teacher. Effectiveness was measured through pre-test/post-test design with Normalized Gain (N-Gain) analysis. Expert validation yielded exceptional validity scores: material expert (99.3%) and media expert (91.6%), with a combined average of 95.45%. User practicality assessments showed high scores from students (90.41%) and teacher (92.5%). Learning outcomes demonstrated substantial improvement, with average pre-test scores of 65.3% increasing to 94% post-test, resulting in an N-Gain of 0.827, categorized as high effectiveness. The Assemblr Edu-based AR media proved highly valid, practical, and effective for enhancing elementary students' science learning outcomes. The systematic ADDIE-guided development process produced instructional media that significantly improved student engagement and conceptual understanding, providing a replicable model for integrating immersive technologies in resource-constrained educational contexts.

Abstract

General Background: Creativity is a fundamental 21st-century skill for elementary students, yet it remains relatively low due to teacher-centered learning practices. Specific Background: Observations in Grade 3 at SD Negeri 1 Tatura revealed limited student innovation, low confidence, and minimal active participation in problem-solving activities. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies largely focused on upper-grade students, used classroom action research, and rarely examined detailed subdimensions of creativity or specific school contexts. Aims: This study aims to examine the increase in student creativity through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model using a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control groups. Results: Findings show a significant difference between experimental and control groups (sig. 0.007 < 0.05), with higher posttest mean scores in the experimental class (49.42) than the control class (38.08). However, N-gain results indicate low overall improvement (0.2152) and uneven development across creativity indicators, with fluency categorized as high (0.7368), flexibility and elaboration as moderate (0.5538; 0.4985), and originality as low (0.1955). Novelty: This study applies a quantitative experimental approach focusing on Grade 3 students and analyzes creativity through detailed subdimensions within a specific school context. Implications: PBL supports increased student creativity but requires optimization, continuous guidance, and strategic implementation to ensure balanced development across all creativity indicators. Highlights• Significant difference found between experimental and control group outcomes• Highest gain observed in idea generation compared to other dimensions• Uneven development identified across multiple creativity indicators KeywordsProblem Based Learning; Student Creativity; Primary School; Quasi Experimental Design; Creative Thinking
