Abstract

Background: Diabetic foot is a chronic complication that can be detrimental and has an impact on the quality of life of diabetic patients. Neurosensory examination of skin temperature using a thermograph can help prevent diabetic foot. Objective: to identify the neurosensory examination of skin temperature using infrared thermographs in addressing the risk of diabetic foot Design: The design in this study is Scoping review Methods: A journal search was conducted using the keywords "infrared thermography, screening or assessment, diabetic foot, and meta-analysis" to collect relevant articles published in the last ten years from four databases (ProQuest, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar). The inclusion criteria were: nurses, patients, diabetic foot, assessment, full-text articles, studies focusing on nursing issues, and written in English. Four journal articles were selected and analyzed using PICO. Results: Four meta-analysis articles on neurosensory examination of skin temperature sensitivity using a thermograph have a p value < 0.05, which can support clinical nursing for monitoring diabetic foot prevention. Conclusion: Examination of skin temperature sensation using a thermograph can be used as a method for neurosensory assessment in monitoring nursing care for structural integrity problems in the physiological changes of the diabetic foot.

Abstract

Background: Neuropathy is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in type 1 and 2 diabetes worldwide. The development of neuropathy and its severity increases with increasing duration of DM and poor glycemic control. Early detection of neuropathy is essential to prevent worse disease complications. Objective: to identify a simple instrument MNSI in detecting peripheral neuropathy of diabetic foot. Methods: Scoping review protocol using 5 steps of Aksey and O'Malley Framework. Inclusion criteria were published in 2016-2023, full text, English language and discussed the use of MNSI in detecting peripheral neuropathy. This article used 4 databases (Pubmed, ProQuest, and ScienceDirect) with the keywords "Michigan screening instrument AND diabetic neuropathy AND early detection". Results: There were 10 articles that fit the inclusion criteria that mentioned that MNSI is a simple tool in detecting peripheral neuropathy in diabetic foot. Conclusion: MNSI is a reliable instrument, easy to do and can be used by doctors, nurses, and health workers involved in the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Early and accurate assessment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is crucial given its fatal complications such as amputation. Infrared thermography (IRT) offers various advantages in studying PAD. This study aims to map the use of Infrared thermography in detecting Peripheral Arterial Disease in diabetic feet. This review applies the scoping review method to review the literature related to Infrared thermography in detecting vascular disorders in diabetic legs. Article searches are conducted on five databases, namely Google Scholar, PubMed, EBSCO, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest. The Boolean keywords and codes used are "Infrared Thermography" AND "Diabetic foot" AND "Peripheral Arterial Disease". Searches are limited to articles published between 2018 and 2024. The journal selection process follows PRISMA's guidelines. The search process yielded 1,969 article titles relevant to the keywords and Boolean operators used. After being selected based on the research topic, 8 articles were left for analysis. IRT can be a useful tool for detecting PAD in diabetic foot. IRT can help track the progression of PAD and classify the foot as PAD without or prone with high accuracy
