Abstract

The eyes is one of the sensitive organs that can be damaged if exposed to radiation. Pb glasses are one of the radiation protection tools. The use of Pb glasses in minimal dental X-ray examinations will cause cataracts in the patient's eyes, so research has been conducted on the effectiveness of Pb glasses in dental examinations using dental panoramic plane based on radiation dose rates.  The study aims to determine the radiation dose received after and before passing through Pb glasses, determine the effectiveness of Pb glasses during dental X-ray examinations, and evaluate the effect of using Pb glasses on patient image results. Data were collected using three Pb glasses on a dental panoramic plane irradiation. Pb glasses are fitted to patients with thin, normal and overweight categories, this is because patients have different facial shapes and sizes. Determination of radiation dose value and effectiveness was done by attaching TLD-100 to the outside and inside of the Pb glasses lens. The effect of using Pb glasses was evaluated with a radiology specialist through interviews. The results obtained were that there was no radiation dose received by the eyes after passing through Pb glasses, the effectiveness of all Pb glasses was 100%, and the use of Pb glasses did not affect the results of dental X-ray images during examinations using dental panoramic plane.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang pengujian efektivitas perisai radiasi dan evaluasi penerapan proteksi radiasi di Instalasi Radiologi RSUD Prof. Dr. MA Hanafiah SM Batusangkar. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menguji efektivitas perisai radiasi, mengevaluasi fasilitas proteksi radiasi, dan mengevaluasi laju dosis radiasi yang diterima pekerja radiasi. Pengujian efektivitas perisai radiasi dilakukan dengan cara mengukur dosis radiasi sebelum dan setelah melewati perisai radiasi menggunakan TLD-100. Evaluasi fasilitas proteksi radiasi dilakukan dengan cara mengamati secara langsung ruangan radiologi. Evaluasi laju dosis radiasi yang diterima pekerja radiasi dilakukan dengan cara mendata laju dosis yang diterima pekerja radiasi yang terukur pada TLD badge selama bulan November 2022-Januari 2023, kemudian dilakukan wawancara terhadap pekerja radiasi terkait proteksi radiasi. Hasil pengujian efektivitas perisai radiasi menunjukkan persentase tertinggi terdapat pada ruangan CT-Scan, nilai persentase efektivitas diperoleh >80%. Nilai efektivitas perisai radiasi pada ruangan dental panoramic diperoleh >47% dan ruangan sinar-X konvensional diperoleh >74%. Hasil evaluasi fasilitas ruangan radiologi secara umum telah memenuhi ketentuan Peraturan BAPETEN No. 4 Tahun 2020. Nilai laju dosis radiasi yang diterima pekerja radiasi sebesar (0-0,132) mSv/tahun, dan masih berada di bawah nilai yang ditetapkan oleh PERKA BAPETEN No. 4 Tahun 2013 sebesar 20 mSv/tahun.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan radiasi sinar-X dalam instalasi radiologi memiliki dampak posistif dan negatif. Dampak negative paparan radiasi sinar-X dapat dikurangi dengan cara menggunakan lead apron. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui luas kerusakan sebagai penentu kelayakan lead apron dan mengevaluasi efektivitas lead apron dalam memberikan perlindungan yang memadai. Evaluasi kelayakan dan efektivitas dilakukan terhadap 5 lead apron milik Rumah Sakit Universitas Andalas. Metode evaluasi kelayakan dilakukan dengan membagi lead apron menjadi 4 kuadran, lalu dilakukan penyinaran menggunakan pesawat sinar-X konvensional dengan faktor eksposi 58,5 kV dan 8 mAs. Hasil penyinaran diolah menggunakan computed radiography (CR) untuk mengukur luas kerusakan pada lead apron. Efektivitas lead apron dievaluasi menggunakan dosimeter OSL yang ditempatkan di bagian atas dan dalam lead apron, kemudian dilakukan penyinaran dengan faktor eksposi 102 kV dan 2,5 mAs. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kerusakan tidak melebihi batas toleransi yang disarankan Lambert dan McKeon, dimana lead apron dinyatakan layak apabila kerusakan <670 mm2 pada area kurang sensitif dan <15 mm2 pada area sensitif, sedangkan efektivitas lead apron berkisar antara (94,5-98,2) %. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi diperoleh bahwa lead apron masih layak digunakan dan efektif dalam memberikan perlindungan terhadap radiasi sinar-X kepada pekerja radiasi, pasien maupun keluarga pasien.

Abstract

Research has been carried out on determining the specific activity of radionuclides 226Ra (Radium), 232Th (Thorium), 40K (Kalium), and 137Cs (Cesium) in soil, water, and plant samples using a gamma spectrometer in the Bukit Nobita Tourism Area Padang City. This study shows the effective dose rate of gamma radiation received by tourists, tour managers, and farmers. Prepared soil, water, and plant samples were then measured using a gamma spectrometer. Gamma radiation dose rates were calculated 1 meter above the ground at 19 locations. The results showed that radionuclide 226Ra was only detected in soil samples, while radionuclides 232Th and 40K were detected in all samples except water samples. Radionuclide 137Cs were not detected in all samples. The specific activity of radionuclides is still below the threshold recommended by PERKA BAPETEN No.16 of 2013, which is 1000 Bq/kg for 226Ra and 232Th and 10000 Bq/kg for 40K. The specific activity of 137Cs radionuclide is still below the threshold recommended by PERKA BAPETEN No.16 of 2012, which is 100 Bq/kg. The effective dose rate received by tourist visitors, tour managers, and farmers is still below the threshold recommended by BAPETEN, which is one mSv/year.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang estimasi Enterance Surface Dose (ESD) pada mata, kelenjar tiroid, dan kelenjar parotis pada pemeriksaan dental panoramic di Rumah Sakit Universitas Andalas. Dental Panoramic menggunakan sinar-X untuk memperoleh citra rahang atas dan bawah. Dalam pelaksaan prosedur ini, sumber sinar-X berputar setengah lingkaran di sekitar kepala pasien yang mengakibatkan sebagian radiasi sinar-X terhambur pada beberapa bagian lain dari tubuh pasien. Oleh karena itu penting untuk mengetahui perkiraan dosis yang diterima oleh pasien terutama beberapa organ kritis yang ada di sekitar kepala. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperkirakan nilai Entrance Surface Dose (ESD) dan dievaluasi berdasarkan rekomendasi Safety Series No 115 IAEA. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada 9 pasien dewasa yang menjalani prosedur dental panoramic. Pemilihan sampel terbatas pada 9 pasien dikarenakan pertimbangan kriteria pasien berdasarkan Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) dan keterbatasan data historis yang tersedia untuk penelitian ini. Hasil pengukuran nilai ESD tertinggi terdapat pada kelenjar parotis untuk ketiga variasi IMT dengan ESD rata-rata sebesar 0,1559 mGy untuk kategori kurus, 0,4044 mGy untuk kategori normal, dan 0,1361 mGy untuk kategori gemuk. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa radiasi yang diterima oleh kelenjar parotis lebih besar dibandingkan mata karena jaraknya yang lebih dekat dengan sumber radiasi. Nilai ESD tersebut masih di bawah nilai yang direkomendasikan oleh Safety Series No 115 yaitu 5 mGy.

Abstract

The negative effects of increased radiation dose can impact healthy tissue surrounding the target area, necessitating careful management to minimize side effects and meticulous planning in radiation therapy. This study aims to determine the peripheral dose of a 6 MV photon beam and compare the measured values with the estimates from the Treatment Planning System (TPS). Dose calculations were performed using the Analytical Anisotropic Algorithm (AAA) in the ECLIPSETM TPS on a virtual water phantom with a 6 MV photon beam, delivered by a Clinac CX linear accelerator (LINAC) at Unand Hospital. Photons were used with variations in target depth of 1.5, 5, and 10 cm, as well as variations in measuring distances of 3, 5, 7, 10, and 15 cm outside the irradiation field. The area of irradiation used varied of 5×5 and 10×10 cm2. The measurement results based on the distance of the field edge showed that the dose percentage decreased below 10% when passing a distance of 5 cm for a field area of 5×5 cm2, and for a field area of 10×10 cm2, the dose percentage decreased below 10% after passing a distance of 7 cm from the edge of the irradiation field. The peripheral dose intensity in the area outside the target will decrease along with the increasing measurement distance from the edge of the field and the depth due to the interaction of radiation with the medium, which causes the spread and absorption of photons in the medium.

Abstract

Optimization of priority on Organ At Risk (OAR) of nasopharyngeal cancer using Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) technique has been conducted. The research was conducted using 5 images of nasopharyngeal cancer patients processed using Treatment Planning System (TPS) Eclipse software at Andalas University Hospital. The purpose of this study was to determine the priority value of Planning Target Volume (PTV) and OAR by analyzing the value of Conformity Index (CI), Homogeneity Index (HI) and OAR radiation dose on the Dose Volume Histogram (DVH) curve based on 6 planning variations. The planning variations used are priority values on PTV 100,110,120,130,140 and 150. Variations of priority values on OAR 40,50,60,70,80 and 90. The results of the study obtained the optimal priority value for each nasopharyngeal cancer patient's initials are S, J, SS, ED and B for PTV which is 120. On the brain stem OAR is 103, 85, 90, 103, and 85. The spinal cord OAR is 82,88,85,85, and 85. The OAR of the eye lens was 58,100,90,85 and 90. The OAR of the eye was 65,90,70,0 and 80. The OAR of the mandible was 72,100,90,99 and 80. Analysis of CI and HI values based on the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measures (ICRU) Report 62 and 83. The radiation dose to the OAR was verified based on the Quantitative Analysis of Normal Tissue Effect in the Clinic (QUANTEC) standard. The priority value obtained in this study will be a reference for medical physicists in making radiotherapy planning.

Abstract

Specific activity analysis of radionuclides in the area of the Research Center for Superior Livestock and Green Animal Feed (BPTU-HPT) Padang Mangatas, West Sumatra has been conducted. This study aims to determine the specific activity of natural radionuclides Ra-226, Th-232, Th-228, K-40 and U-238 based on PERKA BAPETEN NO.16 of 2013 and artificial radionuclides Cs-137 based on PERKA BAPETEN NO.16 of 2012 and determine the distribution of radionuclides based on contour maps. The measured samples consisted of 1 kg of soil at a depth of (010) cm, (10-20) cm and (20-30) cm at 6 location points, 2 kg of grass, and 2 liters of water. The study began with sample preparation, then measured for 17 hours using a calibrated gamma spectrometer. The measurement results showed the specific activity of radionuclides Ra-226, Th-232, Th-228, K-40, U-238 and Cs137 in some soil and grass samples but were not detected in water samples. The specific activity of natural radionuclides in soil and grass samples is below the maximum limit set by PERKA BAPETEN NO.16 of 2013 which is 1000 Bq/kg and Cs-137 is below the maximum limit set by PERKA BAPETEN No. 16 of 2012 which is 100 Bq/kg. The distribution of radionuclide specific activity in the BPTU-HPT Padang Mangatas area based on contour maps has a varied distribution and is significantly distributed in soil samples at a depth of (20-30) cm.

Abstract

Meningkatnya penggunaan sinar-X di bidang medis disertai dengan kemajuan teknologi yang pesat dan telah berdampak signifikan pada radiologi terapeutik dan diagnostik. Di bidang radiologi diagnostik, modalitas dengan teknologi canggih yang memanfaatkan sinar-X adalah Computed Tomography Scanner (CT Scan). Dosis radiasi CT scan diketahui lebih besar dibandingkan dengan modalitas lain, membuat perlindungan pasien dari paparan berlebihan menjadi prioritas kritis. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh usia dan massa tubuh terhadap nilai Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDIVol) dan Dose Length Product (DLP) pada pasien CT Scan di Instalasi Radiologi RS Universitas Andalas, untuk memberikan dosis radiasi yang tepat dan tepat untuk keperluan diagnostik. Prosesnya termasuk mengumpulkan data dosis radiasi pada pasien yang mengalami CT Scan kepala dan perut non-kontras. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa usia memiliki korelasi yang sangat lemah dengan nilai CTDIVol dan DLP, sedangkan massa tubuh memiliki korelasi yang cukup rendah, kecuali untuk CT Scan perut non-kontras. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa massa tubuh pasien tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap pemeriksaan CT scan di RS Universitas Andalas. Dianjurkan untuk mengoptimalkan dosis radiasi dengan mempertimbangkan massa tubuh dan menggunakan Automatic Exposure Control (AEC).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of EI (Exposure Index) values to evaluate exposure indications in thorax PA examinations. It also examines the influence of patient BMI (Body Mass Index) on parameter selection, such as estimated body size in the AEC (Automatic Exposure Control) system. Data collection was conducted on patients aged 15-73 years undergoing thorax PA examinations using the AEC system. The data collected included patient mass (kg), height (m), selected estimated body size on the AEC system, exposure factor values (source voltage (kV)), and EI values. The method used to evaluate the implementation of EI values involved comparing the EI values from the examinations with the vendor-recommended EI values for CR (Computed Radiography) to determine the resulting exposure indications. Furthermore, the influence of BMI on parameter selection in the AEC system was analyzed using a simple linear correlation test to determine the correlation between BMI values and the resulting EI values. The study results showed that thorax PA examinations using the AEC system produced optimal exposure indications in 57% of cases and underexposure indications in 43% of cases. Causes of underexposure indications included the selection of exposure factors that were not fully adjusted to the patient's physical condition based on BMI values, delay time processing on the imaging plate, and the use of collimation fields exceeding diagnostic needs in some examinations. BMI values showed a significant correlation with EI values.
