Abstract

This study aimed at describing and explaining the phenomenon of linguistic politeness in dialogue discourse inKetoprak Sapta Mandala of in the play of Babad Alas Mentaok. This phenomenon needs to be studied becausepoliteness in this discourse is unique, particularly in the selection of forms and politenesss trategies. The study used thePoliteness Theory of Brown and Levinson (1987) with ethnopragmatic perspectives. Ethnopragmatics is aninterdisciplinary study of Pragmatics and Ethnographic of Communication. Data were taken from the recording ofKetoprak Sapta Mandala “Ratu Kidul ” episode of “Babad Alas Mentaok ” drama series by Fajar which isconverted into a digital format in website of jamansemono.com. It was then analyzed by using descriptive analysis following the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. Based on the analysis of data, it can be concluded thatutterances representing forms of politeness can be broken down into three categories: declarative (SUBDek),interrogative (SUBInt), and imperative (SUBImp) modes. SUBDek was realized in various forms of speech actsincluding (1) assertive speech acts: notifying and stating; and (2) expressives: thanking, expressing happiness,apologizing, praising, and criticizing. SUBInt was realized indirective speech acts, such as requesting information,confirming, and asking for permission. SUBImp realized indirective speech acts, for instance giving commands,allowing, prohibiting, and inviting. The politeness strategies used in the play discourse include direct strategies; positivepoliteness strategies with sub-strategies (1) giving attention, (2) giving praise, and (3) using a group marker; negativepoliteness strategies with sub-strategies(1) using speech of respect, (2) using indirect speech, and (3) using a variety ofmanners; and off-record/indirect strategies under taken by (1) using narrative strategies and (2) using implied speech.The use of narrative strategies as the indirect strategy constitutes a finding that can be used to complement the indirectsub-strategy proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987).

Abstract

Generasi milenial adalah mereka yang lahir antara awal tahun 1980 hingga awal 2000-an. Sejalan dengan revolusi industri 4.0, ciri utama mereka adalah sulit melepaskan aktivitasnya dengan perangkat komputer beserta program dan aplikasi di dalamnya. Kondisi ini menjadikan pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia, termasuk sastra di dalamnya, harus menyesuaikan diri dengan perkembangan teknologi digital dengan jaringan internet, khususnya terkait  media dan bahan pembelajaran. Karakter dan nilai-nilai positif pada generasi milenial  harus tetap dijaga, khususnya pada penggunaan bahasa di media sosial. Guru bahasa Indonesia harus menjadikan mereka sebagai mitra belajar dengan mengedepankan tumbuhnya sikap kritis, kreatif, inovatif, komunikatif, kolaboratif, serta menghargai perbedaan sebagai konsekuensi lintas budaya.

Abstract

Dalam interaksi instruksional, seorang dosen dituntut mampu membangun harmoni di kelas sehingga terbangun suasana kelas yang kondusif sehingga tujuan pembelajaran dapat tercapai. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan bercerita sebagai realisasi strategi kesantunan positif Brown dan Levinson dalam interaksi instruksional di kelas. Subjek penelitian ini adalah enam orang dosen Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana Salatiga. Data penelitian berupa ujaran dosen dalam perkuliahan.  Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode simak dengan teknik rekam dan wawancara mendalam. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik deskriptif mengikuti model alir Miles dan Huberman. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data ditemukan cerita yang digunakan meliputi cerita tentang diri dosen, cerita tentang mahasiswa, cerita tentang pengalaman dosen, dan cerita tentang tokoh/sikap tokoh. Selain berfungsi membangun kedekatan hubungan dengan interaktan, strategi bercerita juga berfungsi untuk menanamkan nilai karakter dan untuk memotivasi mahasiswa.

Abstract

The research aimed at describing Brown and Levinson;s language politeness strategies in dialogoues discourse on television. It focused on (1) the used of positive language politeness strategies and (2) the used of negative language politeness strategies in dialogoues discourse on television. This research was approached qualitatively using etnoghrapy of communication design. The data concisted of two kinds, they were the utterances data and field notes. They were recorded from the interactive dialogs on three television stations, i.e. tvOne, MetroTv, and TVRI. The collected data were analyzed using interactive models Miles and Huberman. Based on the data analysis, some findings were made as follows: In the dialoguous discourse on television, the positive politeness strategies used by the interactants covered (1) the uses of emphaty and symphaty, (2) the uses of group identity markers, (3) the uses of asking for agreement, (4) the uses of repetition of utterances, (5) the uses of humor, (6) the uses of being optimistic, (7) the uses of offers and promises, (8) involving the hearer and the speaker in the activities, (9) seeking for reasons or giving questions, and (10) extending presents. Related to the uses of negative politeness strategies used by the interactants covered (1) the uses of indirect utterances , (2) asking for apologies, (3) the uses of impersonal form, (4) the uses of general rules of interaction, and (5) the uses of respect.

Abstract

The politeness theory of Brown and Levinson (1987) about face is regarded as one very influential. In fact, it was rooted from Eastern local wisdom (ancient China), that is “mianzi” and “lian”. Mianzi represents social perceptions of one’s self-esteem built through lian as one’s morality. Politeness and limao have the same pragmatic basis but they can be perceived differently due to the varied cultural contexts underlying a speech community. In the intercultural pragmatics study, the differences should not form the sources of conflict but they should even be considered as varieties of pluralities about which the interactants should be understood in order that interpersonal communication activities can run harmoniously and can be avoided from all kinds of conflict and friction.

Abstract

Purpose: The objectives of implementing community service include providing insight to teachers about best practice writing and providing best practice writing training. Method: The method used is field observation. The target in community service is junior-high school educators in Waru Sidoarjo district. These activities are carried out in the form of training activities, teaching, discussions, and research writing practices. Results: The training that has been carried out on middle-high school educators, namely (a) educators respond well to training in the PPM program, (b) educators have the motivation to improve in making scientific papers, (c) variety of scientific language is a common material in Indonesian language lessons so that educators are active in participating in training, (d) the teachers have a fairly good understanding in writing scientific papers, and (e) the educators respond well to aspects of the implementation of activities, aspects of the presenters, and aspects as a whole. Then, the final results show that from 44 participants, quantitatively that 30 participants have finished writing a best practice writing report, and only 14 participants still needed improvement. Conclusions: Through community service, teachers are able to make research through best practice. Although, there are some teachers who need revision related to the research content.

Abstract

Abstract Learning is an activity that uses the connection information and the environment by planning for students. To make the ease in learning to improve writing skills by using the announcement effectively, Indonesia language teachers should make learning an active, creative, and fun. This study has the objective to improve the skill of writing an announcement by using effective techniques of Presentation of Discovery Continuous Exercise (P2LT). The subject of this research is the studens of SMPN 2 Krian, Sidoarjo, grade 7, grade 7-C in particular. Before learning of the class done, researchers and language teacher conducting the initial orientation of Indonesia. Based on early reflection, researchers know that the expertise of writing grade 7-C student at SMPN 2 Krian, Sidoarjo, still low. Their score was 64,51. This issue has been resolved by using the techniques of P2LT. Based on analysis conducted after the activity, an increase in comparison to the initial condition the average of 23%. Average score announcement text writing skills of students of initial conditions to the first cycle ride 11.7, while achievement of KKM 54,1 ride. Writing skills score announcements in the first cycle of 77,23, whereas in the second cycle is 80,20. Average cumulative a score of the ability to write the text of an announcement from the cycle first into the cycle of rising 3,99, both while the attainment of kkm from the cycle first into a cycle second increased by 17.88.Thus can be inferred that the implementation of technical P2LT can improve the ability to write the text of the nnouncement of a student 7-C SMPN- 2 Krian. Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that each of the creative process in the creation of aliterary work is a personal reflection author. The personal things, including psychologicalfactors within the author closely related to the events that the author never experienced in thepast. In addition to the author's personal experience, culture and literacy authors also take partin determining the quality of a literary work. In this study, the researchers raised concernsabout the psychology of the author of the lyrics of the song Silampukau. The purpose of thisstudy was to describe how the association psychology author of the lyrics of the song album"Dosa, Kota, dan Kenangan" by Silampukau have correlation with this author. The approachused in this study is expressive approach, whereas the type of research is descriptive. The dataused in this study is a written record. Data is written in the form of song lyrics tenSilampukau, among others Balada Harian, Si Pelanggan, Puan Kelana, Bola Raya, Bianglala,Lagu Rantau, DOA 1, Malam Jatuh di Surabaya, Sang Juragan, and Aku Duduk Menanti.Sources of data in this study is the physical release / CD album "Dosa, Kota, dan Kenangan"by Silampukau which contains ten songs. In this study, the techniques used to collect data isthe technique see and record. Researchers in this study do penyimakan careful to use languagethat is used by Silampukau analyzed in every song on the album "Dosa, Kota, dan Kenangan"by Silampukau to get the lyrics or the words used in the songs. Based on the results of dataanalysis found that there are some songs that have a link between the psychology of theauthor with his work. On Balada Harian, is a reflection of sadness and anger against theauthor and his work routine. At Puan Kelana’s song author also tells about his affair with aformer girlfriend through the expression and comparison between Paris and Surabaya. In thesong DOA 1 also contained an expression of sadness, grief, and anger poet on his way inbecoming a musician as well as a critique of the music industry in Indonesia today.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is that it is easy for students to write an exposition text through the inquiry learning model. The researcher applies an inquiry learning model that is applied to class VIIG students of SMP Negeri 2 Taman Sidoarjo. The research uses the application of a learning model, namely the application of inquiry. This learning model helps students to solve problems in groups in order to foster a sense of kinship and cooperation. Learning to write exposition texts was chosen as the study material because the students' ability to write exposition texts has not been achieved. This is based on learning outcomes that have not reached the expected KKM. From the initial observations, it was obtained that the pretest (before the inquiry model was applied) was 27.8% or 10 students who could compose the exposition text well or scored above the KKM and the posttest results (after the inquiry model was applied) 22.3% or 8 students had not. reach KKM. This research is a descriptive quantitative research in its implementation through two cycles, namely pretest and posttest. The pretest was carried out without using a learning model and the posttest was carried out with a learning model. Each cycle includes planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were class VIIG students of SMP Negeri 2 Taman Sidoarjo. The data collection of this research was carried out by observing the teacher and students to find out the activities of the teacher and students during the learning process, the students' writing learning outcomes to determine the improvement of learning outcomes.
