Abstract

This study investigates the influence of employing the Book Creator application on the development of students' writing abilities in composing procedural texts. Mastering the construction of procedural texts is a crucial skill for students, and Book Creator offers a potentially valuable tool to facilitate the clear and creative expression of their ideas. Employing a quasi-experimental design, this research examines the effect of Book Creator on the writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA N 1 Pasir Sakti. The target population comprised 302 students, from which two classes were selected through cluster random sampling: XI IPA 3 as the experimental group and XI IPS 3 as the control group, each consisting of 30 students. Pre-tests and post-tests served as the primary data collection instruments. Subsequent to normality and homogeneity testing of the data through SPSS v.24, an independent samples t-test was conducted. The results, with a significance level (p) of 0.003 (falling below the 0.05 alpha level), indicate that the utilization of the Book Creator application exerted a statistically significant influence on the enhancement of students' writing ability in procedural texts within SMAN 1 Pasir Sakti during the 2021/2022 academic year.

Abstract

This research investigates the correlation between students’ habits of reading English novels and their ability to translate from English to Indonesian. A preliminary study involving 61 students revealed that 33 of them encountered difficulties in English-Indonesian translation, particularly in selecting appropriate vocabulary and constructing sentences that accurately convey the meaning of the original text. The study aims to determine whether a consistent habit of reading English novels influences translation proficiency among students. The research employed a correlational design and focused on fifth-semester students from the English Education Department at UIN Raden Intan Lampung. A sample of 61 students was selected randomly. Data collection involved a questionnaire with 20 items assessing students’ reading habits in English novels and a translation test to evaluate their proficiency in English-Indonesian translation. Statistical analysis using SPSS and the Pearson Product Moment formula indicated a significant positive correlation (rcount = 0.619, rtable = 0.248, N = 61, p < 0.05) between students’ reading habits and their translation abilities. This finding supports the hypothesis (Ha) that there exists a meaningful relationship between regular English novel reading habits and proficiency in English-Indonesian translation.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to analyze the fulfillment of the principles of electoral district (dapil) delineation and seat allocation in the administration of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) in Sambas Regency. Conducted through a collaboration between the General Election Commission (KPU) of Sambas Regency and the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) of Sultan Muhammad Syafiuddin University Sambas, this activity took the form of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) involving academics, election organizers (KPU and Bawaslu), the Sambas Office of National Unity and Politics (Kesbangpol), and university students. The study was based on seven fundamental principles of electoral district delineation, namely equality of vote value, proportionality, adherence to the proportional electoral system, territorial integrity, coterminous, cohesiveness, and continuity. The results indicate that the seven-district model is more ideal than the five-district model, as it better fulfills the principles of territorial integrity, cohesiveness, and proportional seat allocation, although the five-district model performs better in terms of vote value equality and continuity. Therefore, the delineation of seven electoral districts in Sambas Regency is considered to reflect a more just, democratic, and contextually relevant balance of political representation according to the region’s socio-geographical characteristics.

Abstract

This community service program (PKM) aims to analyze the implementation of the 2024 local elections in Sejangkung District. The activity was conducted in the form of a coordination meeting involving election organizers at the district level (District Election Committee) and at the village level (Polling Station Committees), as well as the Sub-District Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimcam) of Sejangkung District. This study was carried out due to the low level of voter participation in Sejangkung District during the 2024 local elections. The results of the analysis show that, in general, the stages of the election were implemented in accordance with the applicable regulations. However, voter participation remained low due to several factors, namely: a large number of voters residing outside the area, geographical conditions, low levels of political education and voter apathy, a reduction in the number of polling stations and invitations, and the influence of social media campaigns.

Abstract

This research investigates the influence of e-book utilization on students’ reading comprehension and reading interest at SMAN 01 Sukau, motivated by the growing shift toward digital learning and the persistent low reading interest in Indonesia. Employing a quantitative design, the study involved 24 students who completed questionnaires supported by observation and document analysis. The results show that e-books have become a regular part of students’ reading routines, with most respondents reading e-books once a week. Although printed books remain the preferred format for 41.7% of students, the majority acknowledged the convenience, accessibility, and customizable features of e-books. Over half of the students reported that their comprehension and retention when using e-books were comparable to printed books, while 41.7% experienced improved understanding with digital formats. E-books also positively affected students’ reading motivation, with 75% stating that they spent the same or more time reading digitally and over half reporting increased interest due to features such as instant access to materials and environmentally friendly benefits. Nonetheless, several challenges were identified, including limited annotation tools, difficulty concentrating on screens, navigation issues, and occasional technical constraints. Overall, the findings indicate that e-books offer practical learning advantages and can enhance reading engagement, though improvements in digital literacy and e-book usability are necessary to optimize their effectiveness. This study contributes to understanding how digital reading tools support learning in Indonesian high schools and highlights the need for strategies that address both motivational and technological barriers in digital reading environments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Indonesian migrant workers from an international economic and legal perspective. This study uses a normative legal research method with a statute approach and a conceptual approach. The data used are secondary data obtained through literature studies, including laws and regulations and scientific journals relevant to migrant workers. The results of the study indicate that Indonesian migrant workers have an impact on the economic and international legal fields. In the economic field, the presence of Indonesian migrant workers can improve the economy, reduce unemployment rates in their countries of origin, and provide skills for Indonesian migrant workers. However, on the other hand, the negative impacts create dependence on work as Indonesian migrant workers. Meanwhile, from an international legal perspective, Indonesian migrant workers are objects of international law. There are several conventions that regulate Indonesian migrant workers. The aim is to provide protection to Indonesian migrant workers working abroad.

Abstract

Paraphrasing is a key ability in academic writing. It shows that students can understand, interpret, and reiterate information while still being honest in their work. In contrast, many students learning English as a foreign language still struggle with paraphrasing, which is often owing to weak language skills and the absence of appropriate learning methods. This study explores how English Education students at UIN Raden Intan Lampung use metacognitive methods, such as planning, monitoring, and evaluation, to overcome difficulties with paraphrase in their thesis writing. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were obtained using close-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with students in their last year of study. The thematic analysis shows that students who prepare carefully, check their understanding and how well they express themselves, and assess the quality and originality of their paraphrased work likely to create reformulations that are both cohesive and free from plagiarism. The findings indicate the necessity of developing metacognitive awareness to encourage learner independence and improve paraphrasing skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) academic writing.
