Abstract

This study discusses the management of coastal resources in the Province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) with a focus on current conditions, integrated management strategies, and policy recommendations. The NTB Provincial Government has issued NTB Governor Regulation Number 100 of 2023 concerning Whale Shark Management in the Saleh Bay Waters to regulate management and tourism activities in the area. However, challenges such as environmental degradation, land use conflicts, and climate change remain major obstacles. This research employs a literature review method with a normative approach and qualitative data analysis. The results indicate that effective coastal resource management requires the integration of local knowledge, community-based management practices, and sustainable management policies. Active community participation and collaboration between the government, communities, and other stakeholders are crucial to achieving harmony between economic utilization and environmental conservation. One of the coastal areas that has become a tourist destination and a coastal management program is in Labuhan Jambu Village, Sumbawa, which focuses on whale shark ecotourism. Awareness of human responsibility towards nature and the integration of science, technology, and local values are also necessary for the sustainable management of coastal resources in NTB.

Abstract

This research discusses the application of the balance principle in laboratory waste management as a strategy to minimize environmental impacts. This principle aims to balance laboratory activities and environmental protection by reducing waste at the source, sorting it out, and using environmentally friendly waste processing technology. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach in the Mataram University laboratory. The research results show that applying the balance principle is still not optimal due to limited understanding, infrastructure and adequate policy support. Recommended strategies include implementing the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), selecting safer chemicals, and increasing training and preparing clear SOPs. Waste identification reached (50%), with limitations in storage (44%) and transportation (43%). Management and final disposal were minimal (33% and 38%), increasing environmental risks. Documentation, reporting (43%), and regulatory compliance (43%) still need to be improved. The K3 aspect is quite good (54%), but emergency response procedures are still weak. Sustainable management (37%) and environmental monitoring (43%) lack effort in mitigating environmental impacts. Applying the principle of balance is important to achieve sustainable laboratory waste management.

Abstract

West Lombok Regency. Using the Vector Geoprocessing method, the study processes and analyzes spatial GIS data, focusing on graphical data (geometry) and attributes (identity) through ArcMap Desktop. The main analysis techniques used include overlay analysis and buffer analysis, which are very important for spatial data analysis in GIS. This study uses mangrove distribution data from 1996-2021 which is analyzed to obtain the distribution of mangroves in the desired area. In Lembar District, there are four villages that have mangrove ecosystems, namely Eyat Mayang, Labuan Tereng, Lembar & South Lembar villages. In each village from year to year there is a change in area. The mangrove ecosystem in Lembar District from year to year has experienced an overall reduction starting from 1996-2021, experiencing a decrease of approximately 69%, namely from an area of 186 Ha to 59 Ha. However, there is one village that experienced an increase in mangrove ecosystems in 2016-2021, namely an increase of approximately 3 Ha. This cannot be separated from internal and external factors that occur so that they have an impact on changes in the mangrove ecosystem in an area. The factor that most influences changes in the area of mangroves is the existence of development in the area so that it has an impact on the mangrove ecosystem.

Abstract

This study analyzes strategies to enhance the marketing of banking products, particularly loans and savings, through an ecosystem cluster system. The case study of Bank BRI Praya is the central focus, revealing the implementation of cluster strategies by grouping SMEs, financial institutions, and local businesses into a single ecosystem to expand financial service access, foster partnerships, and strengthen capital flows. This approach aims to optimize local resource utilization, improve financial inclusion, and stimulate community business innovation. The study also identifies challenges in managing clusters, such as dependence on local economic health and the complexity of coordination among entities. The findings provide strategic insights into how ecosystem clusters can serve as effective tools to strengthen banking product marketing and promote sustainable regional economic growth

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the level of independence of farmers in making decisions about corn farming in the Sekotong district. This paper is expected to serve as one of the references for the government in formulating policies that are more attentive to farmers' independence. This research uses a quantitative descriptive research method. The data used are primary and secondary data. The research location was determined through purposive sampling. The sampling method used was snowball sampling with a total of 30 respondents. Data analysis uses percentage index. This technique is used to describe the tendency of the respondents' independence by calculating the percentage of scores obtained through interviews with questionnaires, which are then presented in the form of a percentage distribution table. Based on the research conducted, it was found that out of 30 corn farmers in Sekotong, the majority are at self reliance in making farming decisions. There are 53% of farmers who are self reliance in the cultivation aspect, 47% self reliance in the post-harvest aspect, and 43% independent in the marketing aspect. In the aspect of fulfilling production facilities and infrastructure, there are 57% of farmers who fall into the non-independent category. This finding illustrates that some farmers in Sekotong have reached a level of self reliance.

Abstract

The agricultural sector is the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, particularly for horticultural farmers such as melon growers. This study aims to analyze melon farmers’ perceptions of climate change in Ganti Village, East Praya Subdistrict, Central Lombok Regency. A quantitative survey method was applied. The location was selected purposively as Ganti Village is a central melon-producing area. A total of 30 respondents were selected using the snowball sampling technique. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaire-based interviews and analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that farmers have strong perceptions of three key aspects of climate change: changing rainfall patterns, extreme weather events, and their impacts on agriculture. Farmers identified specific indicators of the onset and end of the rainy season as well as heavy rainfall as signs of changing precipitation patterns. Regarding extreme events, they recognized the timing of strong winds, floods, and droughts. Perceived impacts include increased pest and disease incidence, reduced yields and quality, higher crop failure risks, unpredictable water availability, and changes in crop varieties each planting season.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the profits generated from products processed from bamboo sourced from the Forest Area of Mareje Bonga, Central Lombok, Indonesia. It is expected to bring several benefits, particularly to improve the livelihood of the communities inside and outside the area of the forest. This research used a survey method. The surveys were carried out with semi-structured interviews and field observation to bamboo locations, bamboo growers, bamboo processors, and bamboo traders. These primary data were completed with secondary data. Collected data were analyzed accordingly by applying several analyses, such as descriptive analysis, descriptive statistics, and profit.  The study revealed that bamboos from the area of Mareje Bonga Forest are marketed inside and outside the area.  The bamboos are then processed into several bamboo products of high and low added values or profits. Inside the area of the forest, a higher profit was generated by large buckets.  Outside the forest area, three bamboo products were promising for their profits, i.e., gazebo, set bench, and lazy bench.  There are more types of bamboo products and more profitable bamboo products outside the forest area than inside.  The novelty of this study is on the finding that more profitable products are located at a longer distance from its resources.  This study brings several implications in economics, environment, and policy making.
