Abstract

Eating behavior is a crucial aspect of human life, encompassing multiple dimensions. Unfortunately, no Indonesian-language instrument is specifically designed to measure healthy and unhealthy eating behaviors. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Indonesian version of the Healthy and Unhealthy Eating Behavior Scale (HUEBS) among 210 first-year undergraduate students. The data collection used a random sampling technique among first-year university students in one of the private universities in Indonesia. The HUEBS consists of two subscales: healthy eating behavior and unhealthy eating behavior. The Rasch model was employed to examine the scale's psychometric properties, including unidimensional, rating scale functioning, item fit, and differential item functioning (DIF). The results indicated that all items met the recommended fit criteria (infit and outfit MNSQ) and demonstrated adequate point-measure correlations (> 0.30). The 7-point rating scale functioned optimally and consistently. Item and person reliability values (.99 and .85–.86, respectively) were categorized as good to excellent, supporting the scale’s sensitivity in distinguishing levels of eating behavior. The results show that HUEBS can measure healthy eating and unhealthy eating behavior among university students and can be used as a basis for intervention related to lifestyle.

Abstract

Promoting pro-environmental behavior is a significant concern nowadays. Researchers have identified social value orientation as one of the key factors influencing pro-environmental behavior. This study aims to investigate the influence of social value orientation on pro-environmental behavior and to highlight differences based on gender. The research method used is non-experimental quantitative causality. This research was carried out in 2024 at B University in Bandung. The study participants were 378 students from B University in Bandung, selected using convenience sampling. The measurement tools used were the Triple Dominance Scale by Van Lange (1998) to assess social value orientation (SVO) tendencies and the GEB Scale by Kaiser (2020) to measure general ecological behavior, i.e., the tendency to engage in pro-environmental or non-pro-environmental behavior. Data analysis was done using JASP version 19. The results showed a significant influence of social value orientation on pro-environmental behavior with Fisher's exact test p=0.017 (p<0.05). An odds ratio of 0.084 was obtained, indicating that participants categorized as pro-social are 11.9 times more likely to engage in pro-environmental behavior than those classified as pro-self. Regarding gender differences, the chi-square test revealed no significant differences between males and females in terms of social value orientation tendencies with χ2=0.056 (p>0.05), as well as in terms of engaging in pro-environmental behavior, with χ2=0.774 (p>0.05). The conclusions of this study are that social value orientation affects pro-environmental behavior, and there was no significant difference between gender in social value orientation tendencies and pro-environmental behavior. DOI: https://doi.org/10.29313/gmhc.v12i3.14217

Abstract

This experimental research investigated the effect of performance anticipation on students recognition in the context of online learning. Data were collected through online presentation via Zoom and analyzed with between-participants posttest-only control group design. The data collected comprised 69 students aged 17 to 20 years with mean and SD of 18.09 years and 0.59, respectively. The confederate, experimental, and control groups conducted the presentation in the first, second, and zero order. The results showed a significant difference between the control and experimental groups in recognition scores (p = .011), which decreased performance anticipation of student’s recognition ability in online learning contexts. The findings can be utilized by educators to design learning scenarios needed to optimize students understanding of presentation materials and lectures. Furthermore, presentations should be scheduled at the beginning of the class and limited to one per session.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between cognitive jealousy and stress levels in emerging adulthood individuals who are in romantic relationships. Lazarus & Folkman's theory and Pfeiffer and Wong's theory are used as a framework for understanding how cognitive jealousy can influence stress levels. The research method used is quantitative with a correlational approach. Data was collected through an online survey using an adapted questionnaire of the Multidimensional Jealousy Scale (MJS) and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). The results of data analysis show that there is a relationship between cognitive jealousy and stress levels in 290 participants. These findings highlight the importance of awareness of the emotional impact of romantic relationships in emerging adulthood individuals. The research results show that there is a significant and directly proportional relationship between cognitive jealousy and stress levels in emerging adults who are in a romantic relationship. This means that the higher the level of cognitive jealousy experienced by emerging adulthood individuals who are in a romantic relationship, the higher the level of stress experienced by the individual.

Abstract

Abstract

The effects of social support on reducing the stress symptom of lupus patient were shown by Nugraha (2005). This article was intended to describe the social support used during the social support activities. In this study social support was given to two lupus patients during 12 weeks (once a week, two hours max. every session), applying the one-to-one method and helping techniques from Brammer (2003). The results described that support techniques mostly used to fulfil the patients’ needs for emotional and informational supports were attending, reassuring, and summarizing; whereas the supports mostly used were the roles as a friend who listened to the patient, who encouraged them and who gave them information related to lupus. The descriptions also revealed that the author needed several sessions to show that social support affects the patients.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the causal impact of the irrelevant sound effect (ISE)—specifically background speech noise—on the working memory performance of university students with smartphone addiction. Working memory, a cognitive system that supports the simultaneous storage and processing of information, plays a crucial role in academic tasks that require sustained concentration. The study employed a quantitative experimental method with a between-subjects design, comparing two groups: one exposed to background speech noise and a control group without auditory interference. Working memory performance was measured using the automated operation span (O-Span) task, which requires participants to solve mathematical equations while remembering sequences of letters. A total of 66 university students who scored high on the Smartphone Addiction Scale participated in the study. Statistical analyses revealed no significant differences between the two groups in either processing or storage performance. These findings suggest that exposure to background speech noise does not necessarily impair working memory, at least among individuals with high levels of smartphone use. One possible explanation is that these individuals may have developed cognitive adaptations that allow them to filter out distracting sounds—an ability potentially shaped by habitual digital multitasking. This study contributes to the growing evidence that the impact of the ISE is not universal and may be moderated by the unique characteristics of specific populations.
