Abstract

This research describes the pragmatic meaning of verbal and nonverbal language of Sundanese people in Sindangkasih District, Ciamis Regency, West Java. This research is a qualitative research using ethnopragmatics. That is, verbal and nonverbal politeness of Sundanese people can be done through speech acts that use kinesthetic nonverbal language (facial, gestural, and postural). The data source of this research is routine activities carried out by Sundanese people in Sindangkasih Subdistrict. The data in this study are verbal and nonverbal languages that contain politeness. The technique of collecting data in this study was to adapt the ethnographic method and use the method of listening. The data analysis technique of this study uses a flow model consisting of data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions and verification. The results showed that the pragmatic meaning of verbal and nonverbal politeness of Sundanese people was manifested through kinesthetic nonverbal language, namely nonverbal facial language (facial expressions / facial expressions); gestural (eye movements, head movements, and hand movements); and postural (movements of all limbs, such as bowing, standing upright, leftward, and rightward).Keywords: Verbal language, nonverbal language, and politeness

Abstract

Abstrak This article aims to describe the steps of implementing environmental learning models in learning creative writing fable material and describing its effectiveness. This research is a type of research mix research using a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods. Data collection techniques using observation methods, questionnaires, and tests. Through research can be known measures implementing environmental learning model in learning creative writing fable material include: (1) environmental exploration, (2) reporting on the results of environmental exploration, (3) determining themes, figures, background, moral messages, and other elements of builders, (4) making the framework according to structure, (5) developing the skeleton into the text fable, (6) editing fable text, and (7) publication of fable. Fable text analysis and test results show that the fable text written by a student group using environmental learning models has good quality in terms of content, organization, vocabulary, linguistic, and writing. The average group of students who use environmental learning models in writing fable 85.58, while the group of students using conventional models is 76.52. It provides ample evidence that an effective environmental learning model is used in learning to write fable rather than conventional models that are commonly performed.

Abstract

Enormous imbalance of study between language impoliteness and language politeness has become serious concern among those who regard pragmatics important field in language learning. Impoliteness constitutes existing phenomena in most societies and cultures but it has so far been regarded as outside the study of pragmatics itself. This paper is meant to trigger the study of this seemingly-new phenomenon that the study of pragmatics becomes more and more extensive in Indonesia. The restriction of the available theories of this pragmatic phenomenon should not hinder the study of pragmatics.

Abstract

Pragmatics as the waste basket of linguistics –because this field of language study becomes the receiver of any unsolved linguistics problems– needs to accommodate the broadest understanding of the contexts themselves. Not only that it must include the so-called textual context and any extralinguistics ones such as the spatio-temporal settings, but it also includes ones that relate to social and cultural aspects. Comprehensive, wise, and through considerations on any situational aspects of the utterances, in addition to social and cultural aspects, might also determine the right interpretation of meanings of the language. All aspects of contexts that might be utilized and implemented comprehensively to interprete meanings of any unsolved linguistics items might be called in this way, the pragmatics context. The last mentioned is the main concern of the discussion of this article and definitely such context needs to be reinterpreted. Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of social-social context landscapes in cybertexts-based pragmatics related to the Covid-19 vaccination discourse. The research data is in the form of speech excerpts that contain the identity of the social-social context landscape in cybertexts. The data collection method applied is the listening method with reading and note-taking techniques. Furthermore, the data are identified, classified, and typified to apply data analysis methods and techniques. The data analysis method applied was the extra lingual equivalent method. The validity of the data used expert validation and theoretical triangulation. This study resulted in findings in the form of six types of social-social context landscapes for Covid-19 vaccination, namely (1) confirming the meaning of the speech, (2) clarifying the meaning of the speech, (3) informing the purpose of the speech, (4) setting the background for the speech, (5) supporting the meaning of the speech. the meaning of the speech, and (6) clarify the meaning of the speech.Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis lanskap konteks sosial-sosietal dalam pragmatik berbasis cybertexts terkait dengan wacana vaksinasi Covid-19. Data penelitian berupa cuplikan-cuplikan tuturan yang di dalamnya terkandung identitas lanskap konteks sosial-sosietal dalam cybertexts. Metode pengumpulan data yang diterapkan adalah metode simak dengan teknik baca dan teknik catat. Selanjutnya data diidentifikasi, diklasifikasi, dan ditipifikasi untuk dikenakan metode dan teknik analisis data. Metode analisis data yang diterapkan adalah metode padan ekstralingual. Keabsahan data menggunakan validasi pakar dan triangulasi teori. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan berupa enam jenis lanskap konteks sosial-sosietal vaksinasi Covid-19, yakni (1) menegaskan maksud tuturan, (2) mengklarifikasi maksud tuturan, (3) menginformasikan maksud tuturan, (4) melatarbelakangi maksud tuturan, (5) mendukung maksud tuturan, dan (6) memperjelas maksud tuturan.

Abstract

Context is a very important aspect to determine speech intentions. Failure to describe contexts potentially causes misunderstanding. In a Javanese society, there is a phatic communion ‘monggo’ which has varied pragmatic meanings depending on contexts. The variety of meanings poses a potential problem for language learners. Considering this, a research is conducted to investigate how contexts become determining factors of pragmatic meanings of ‘monggo.’ The research data are excerpts of utterances containing phatic ‘monggo’. The data sources are the excerpts of utterance between the speaker and hearer having Javanese cultural backgrounds. The data are gathered using the observation method, by recording and note-taking as the basic and advanced techniques. The gathered data are classified carefully to be analyzed using the contextual identity analysis method. The research result shows the roles of contexts as follows: (a) determine the phatic meaning of ‘monggo’, (b) provide a background of the phatic meaning of ‘monggo’, (c) confirm the phatic meaning of ‘monggo’, and (d) describe the phatic meaning of ‘monggo.’ The pragmatic meanings of the phatic ‘monggo’ include: (a) inviting sincerely, (b) inviting hesitantly, (c) prohibition, (d) doubt, (e) excuse me, and (f) invitation.Konteks sangat penting dalam menentukan maksud pembicaraan. Kegagalan untuk menggambarkan konteks berpotensi menyebabkan kesalahpahaman. Dalam masyarakat Jawa, ada kata 'monggo' yang memiliki beragam makna pragmatis tergantung pada konteksnya. Keragaman makna menimbulkan masalah bagi pemelajar bahasa. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menyelidiki konteks yang menjadi faktor penentu terhadap makna pragmatis dari 'monggo'. Data penelitian adalah kutipan dari ujaran yang mengandung kata ‘monggo'. Sumber data adalah kutipan dari ujaran antara pembicara dan pendengar yang memiliki latar belakang budaya Jawa. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode observasi, dengan mencatat yang juga digunakan sebagai teknik dasar dan lanjutan. Data yang terkumpul diklasifikasikan dengan cermat untuk dianalisis menggunakan metode analisis identitas kontekstual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peran konteks, meliputi: (a) menentukan makna kata 'monggo', (b) memberikan latar belakang makna kata 'monggo', (c) mengonfirmasi makna kata 'monggo', dan (d) menguraikan makna kata 'monggo'. Adapun arti pragmatis kata 'monggo', yaitu: (a) mengundang dengan tulus, (b) mengundang ragu-ragu, (c) melarang, (d) keragu-raguan, (e) permohonan maaf, dan (f) undangan.

Abstract

Abstract Pragmatic learning must be research based. By basing on research, pragmatic learning in language majors and language education will be of high quality. Until now, pragmatic learning is still based on the views of Western experts. On the basis of that concern, the authors sought to examine specific culture-based pragmatics related to the socio-societal context. The results of the study are utilized in pragmatic learning. The main objective of this study is to describe the design of social-societal context learning models in pragmatics. The paradigm that was followed was the Ignasian-based reflective learning paradigm. The learning method applied is the cooperative learning method. The technique applied is a group investigation technique. Furthermore, this research is useful in the following matters: (a) improving and improving the quality of pragmatic learning in tertiary institutions; (b) produce researchers in the field of reliable pragmatics because they are used to wrestling with pragmatic research; (c) developing pragmatics, especially pragmatics based on specific culture.Keywords: Group investigation technique; cooperative learning method; reflective teaching Pembelajaran pragmatik harus berbasis riset. Dengan mendasarkan pada riset, pembelajaran pragmatik di jurusan-jurusan bahasa dan pendidikan bahasa akan berkualitas. Hingga sekarang, pembelajaran pragmatik masih didasarkan pada pandangan pakar Barat. Atas dasar keprihatinan itu, penulis berusaha meneliti pragmatik berbasis kultur spesifik terkait konteks sosial-sosietal. Hasil kajian tersebut dimanfaatkan dalam pembelajaran pragmatik. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah menggambarkan desain model pembelajaran konteks sosial-sosietal dalam pragmatik. Paradigma yang diikuti adalah paradigma pembelajaran reflektif berbasis Ignasian. Metode pembelajaran yang diterapkan adalah metode pembelajaran kooperatif. Adapun teknik yang diterapkan adalah teknik investigasi kelompok (grup-investigation technique). Selanjutnya, penelitian ini bermanfaat dalam hal-hal berikut: (a) memperbaiki dan meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran pragmatik di perguruan tinggi; (b) menghasilkan periset-periset bidang pragmatik yang andal karena mereka sudah terbiasa bergulat dengan riset pragmatik; (c) mengembangkan ilmu pragmatik khususnya pragmatik yang berbasis kultur spesifik. Kata Kunci: Group investigation technique; cooperative learning method; pembelajaran reflektif

Abstract

The indirect expression of intention in the Javanese culture-based speech community requires the speaker and the hearer to understand the importance of contexts in communication. Failure to understand the context of interaction will definitely impede communication and interaction, or even worse it may cause misunderstanding in the communication and interaction process. In the Javanese speech community, people may say mboten or no without intending to negate or to express falsity. On the contrary, people may say inggih or yes which does not necessarily mean to affirm or to express an assertion. Therefore, it is clear that in the Javanese speech community, the extralinguistic contexts in the communication is very important and defines the purpose of utterances. Based on the research background, the research on extralinguistic contexts to determine the meaning of mboten was carried out. The objective of the research was to elaborate the extralinguistic contexts which determine the meaning of mboten. The data consists of excerpts containing Javanese phatic mboten. The technique of collecting data was recording and note-taking. Besides, interview or speaking method was employed to gather the data. The data analysis was done using the distributional and content analysis methods. This research results in five functions of extralinguistic contexts to determine the meaning of the utterance. The five functions are: (1) the extralinguistic contexts to affirm the intention of negation; (2) the extralinguistic context as the background of negation; (3) the extralinguistic contexts to confirm the meaning of negation; (4) the extralinguistic contexts to affirm the intention of negation; (5) the extralinguistic contexts to affirm the phatic function. The result of the research is very important and contributes significantly to the development of linguistics, especially the development of pragmatics embedded in culture-specific concepts.

Abstract

The linguistic phenomena studied in pragmatics evolve over time. Among the pragmatic phenomena that can be mentioned here are: implicature, deixis, presupposition, entailment, language politeness, language impoliteness and language phatic. There are certainly other pragmatic phenomena outside the phenomena mentioned above. In the future, other new pragmatic phenomena are expected to arise, along with the better development of pragmatic studies. Among those pragmatic phenomena, the phenomenon of language impoliteness can be regarded as a new phenomenon. How the constellation of pragmatic phenomena in the language study with the specific culture perspective becomes the main issue discussed in this short article. The benefit obtained by understanding the constellation of this new pragmatic phenomenon is that the interpretation of the pragmatic intent or meaning of language impoliteness becomes increasingly sharp, profound and comprehensive because its association with other pragmatic phenomena is sometimes an inevitable fact.

Abstract

Artikel ini berangkat dari berbagai persoalan yang berkaitan dengan sejarah sastra lokal yang hingga saat ini minim dalam penelitian kesusastraan serta dalam forum ilmiah. Di samping itu, keberadaan sastra lokal dianggap remeh atau nomor dua setelah sastra yang berkembang secara nasional. Faktor lain adalah penyebaran karya hanya di kalangan tertentu dan keterbacaan yang sedikit sehingga dianggapnya tidak berkualitas. Kualitas karya sastra tidak ditentukan penyebaran karya atau keterbacaan. Sebab, karya sastra merupakan hasil pemikiran penulis yang merefleksikan pandanganya terhadap dunia yang dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan, sosial, budaya, dan politik. Maka, kualitas karya sastra adalah berkaitan estetika dan konteks sastra sendiri. Contoh, Chairil Anwar menjadi terkenal setelah HB. Jassin mengapresiai karyanya di tempatnya mengajar. Ada dua cara dalam penelitian sejarah sastra lokal. Pertama, klasifikasi sastrawan. Yaitu, menyusun sastrawan-sastrawan dalam kurun tertentu didasarkan pada angkatan. Kedua, karakteristik sastra. Yaitu, membahas unsur struktur sastra dengan intra struktur dan ekstra struktur.
