Abstract

Abstract The saprobic index is an index applies to determine pollution level of water based on the presence of organisms such as phytoplankton. This study was conducted to determine the diversity of phytoplankton and water quality of Situ Gunung, Sukabumi, West Java based on saprobic index values. From this study, 32 species of phytoplankton were found that were members of five major classes: Chlorophyceae (66.58%), Cyanophyceae (25.82%), Bacillariophyceae (6.33%), Dinophyceae (1.01%) and Cryptophyceae (0.25%). The most abundant phytoplankton species found in Situ Gunung were Monoraphidium sp., Chroococcus sp., Gloeocapsa sp., and Ankistrodesmus sp. Diversity index (H') of station A, B, C, D, and E were 1.02, 0.78, 0.39, 0.83, and 0.6, respectively while saprobic index values ranged from 1 to 1.67, with the level of organic contamination ranging from light (β mesosaprobic) to very light (oligo saprobic). Based on these results, it is concluded that Situ Gunung has not been contaminated by pollutants.

Abstract

Scallop (Pectenidae: Chlamydinae sp.) is fauna habitat in seashore ecosystem and had commercial value commudity. The aims this study were to identify the main composition of stable isotopes, food sources, and trophic level from scallop and potential food sources to comparing isotopic signatures of different primary producers and fauna, and to estimate qualitatively the importance of material in ecosystem seashore. The researched conducted in Pari islands, Seribu Islands, DKI Jakarta, we analyzed the stable isotopes δ13C and δ15N. The composition signature of stable isotopes (δ13C and δ15N) scallop, seagrasses, macroalgae, and sponge showed significant differents (ANOVA; p < 0.05). Fractionation signature δ13C scallop with potential food sources is had not range. In addition, signature δ13C from scallop is not assimilated seagrass, macrolagae, and sponge. The signature δ15N from species, scallop had value riched than seagrass, macroalgae, and spong. The function scallop in trophic level had consumer and seagrass, macrolagae, and sponge is primary producer. Stable isotopes composition scallop is first study conducted in habitat Seribu islands.

Abstract

Microplastics (MPs) are currently one of the main pollutants in the aquatic environment and translocation to the human body will cause health problems. This study aims to find the desorption formula for MPs from green mussels (Perna viridis) with the oxidizing agent Ca(OH)2 or whiting lime. The results will be compared with the use of HNO3 which is commonly used for MPs analysis. There were 2 variations of Ca(OH)2, namely 10 and 15 mL, and soaking for 15; 30; and 60 minutes. The abundance and characteristics of MPs (shape, size, and color) were observed in 30 samples with 3 repetitions. The results of this research indicate that all samples have been contaminated with MPs. The highest number of MPs was found in the immersion of Ca(OH)2 for 30 minutes at a concentration of 15 mL of 1% Ca(OH)2. The oxidizing agent Ca(OH)2 was able to remove MPs much higher than HNO3 with an effectiveness of 72.98–1,120% or 2–12 times, which was supported by statistical results that showed significant differences (P <0.05). Thus, the conclusion is that the use of Ca(OH)2 is effective in removing MPs from green mussels with an optimal ratio of 1:3.8 (g/mL).
