This research is conducted to analyze the politeness strategy used by characters in Cinderella movie to strengthen pragmatic competence. The objective of this research is to identify, (1) types of speech act used by characters of Cinderella movie in conveying politeness strategies (2) types of politeness strategies that are depicted by characters in Cinderella movie, and (3) to describe the relation of politeness strategy and pragmatic competence. The study is designed as descriptive qualitative research. The object of the study is a movie entitled Cinderella. Documentation and observation are the techniques to collect the data. This research is analyzed by using Spreadley Theory which includes four stages of analysis namely domain analysis, taxonomy analysis, componential analysis, and cultural theme analysis. The result of the analysis are (1) there are five types of speech acts used by the main characters of Cinderella movie in conveying politeness strategies. They are assertive, directive, commisive, expressive, and declarative. Directive speech act is becoming the most frequently used by the main characters of this movie in conveying politeness strategies. (2) There are four types of politeness strategy that are depicted by the main characters in Cinderella movie. Those types are bald on – record strategy, positive politeness strategy, negative politeness strategy, and finally off – record strategy. The result shows that bald on – record strategy becomes the most frequently used strategy compared to the others. Politeness and pragmatic competence have a very close relationship. The importance of pragmatic competence can be strengthened through the choice of politeness strategies. Film as a mirror of a society is a good medium to analyze the sociocultural background of the utterance so that the purpose of the speaker's meaning can be realized appropriately.

Harmoni dan solidaritas perempuan di jejaring sosial Facebook (kajian pragmatik) Rosita Ambarwati

Perkembangan teknologi berdampak luas pada banyak hal, salah satunya adalah perkembangan komunikasi melalui jejaring sosial. Hal yang menarik pada fenomena facebook adalah sebagian besar penggunanya adalah perempuan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) Mendeskripsikan wujud harmoni komunikasi perempuan di facebook. (2) Menggambarkan wujud solidaritas perempuan saat beromunikasi di facebook, (3) Menggali lebih dalam sejauh mana karakteristik bahasa perempuan dalam komunikasi fatis. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang menggunakan pendekatan pragmatik. Subyek penelitian adalah wanita dewasa umur 25-50 tahun. Data adalah tuturan perempuan di jejaring sosial facebook. Pemilihan data dilakukan dengan pertimbangan tertentu menggunakan purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode simak dan catat terhadap sejumlah tuturan yang mengandung bentuk ungkapan fatis. Uji keabsahan data dilakukan melalui uji kredibilitas yaitu dengan perpanjangan pengamatan dan member check. Analisis data dilakukan berdasarkan model analisis Spradley yang terbagi menjadi 4 tahap, yaitu analisis domain, analisis taksonomi, analisis kontekstual dan analisis tema budaya. Hasil yang dicapai adalah: (1) Wujud harmoni perempuan saat berkomunikasi difacebook ditujukan untuk menjaga hubungan tetap langgeng dan baik. Penanda fatis sebagai perwujudan harmoni yang muncul adalah: 1) Hehehe (ekspresi tertawa), 2) Take care, momy.....(ungkapan basa-basi yang lebih bermakna sebagai salam, 3) thanks (ucapan terima kasih) (2) Wujud solidaritas tercermin dari ungkapan, Aamiin, dan ungkapan memberikan dukungan moril. Karakteristik bahasa perempuan yang tampak adalah, menggunakan ungkapan santun, menggunakan kalimat tidak langsung, menggunakan kata sifat, menggunakan tag question. komunikasi fatis di facebook menjadi dominan karena bentuk komunikasi tidak bertatap muka secara langsung sehingga ekspresi penutur tidak dapat terlihat dan komentar yang muncul tidak bisa dipastikan keajekan waktunya sehingga kejujuran tuturan kurang bisa diterima. This study focuses about the phenomena of code mixing in Ria SW Youtube Channel because she is a food vlogger who often mix the language with English to interpret the clear explanation about food so it can be understood by others. The objectives of this study are to describe the type of code mixing and the social factors influence the used of code mixing in Ria SW Youtube Channel. The research approach used to analyze the data is descriptive qualitative approach. As the theory used, the writer described based on the theory of Hoffman (1991) to analyze the types of code mixing and the theory of Weinreich (1963) to analyze the factors of code mixing. The writer collected the data from three videos which are Taipei Street Food #02, Unique Food in Singapore #05, and Hello Bali #01. The result demonstrates that there are three types of code mixing which are intra-sentential code mixing about 132 data or 75%, intra-lexical code mixing about 30 data or 17%, and involving a change of pronunciation about 14 data or 8%. Intra-sentential code mixing is the dominant occurrence of code mixing used in Ria SW Youtube Channel because the speaker inserts English words in the middle or at the end of the utterances. Furthermore, there are five social factors of code mixing which are low frequency words about 138 data or 78%, oversight about 21 data or 12%, synonym about 8 data or 5%, pernicious homonym about 6 data or 3%, and social value about 3 data or 2%. The dominant social factor influenced the use of code mixing in Ria SW Youtube Channel is low frequency words because the term or word in the English language is easier to remember and have stable meaning.

This study discusses about the use of language style in talk show “The Late-Late Show with James Corden”. The researcher use three videos taken from The Late-Late Show with James Corden, those are the video entitled ‘Bill Gates Knows 'How to Avoid a Climate Disaster' , “How Did Adele Get Celine Dion's Gum from James?’and the video entitled “Jackson Wang: LMLY” . This study aims to identify and describe the types of language style and also social context in he Late-Late Show with James Corden. This study used theory of Joos (1967) to analyze the type of language style and the theory from Holmes (2013) to analyze the social context. This study used descriptive qualitative approach, and for processing the data using the theory from Miles & Huberman (1994). The result of this study that the researcher found are 114 data. Then, there are 12 or 11% of the data which is categories as formal style. There are 14 or 12% of the data which is categories as consultative style. There are 88 or 77% of the data which is categories as casual style. So, the dominant type used in The Late-Late Show with James Corden is casual style. The use of language style influenced by social context those are participant in the interaction, setting or social context of interaction, topic of interaction and function of interaction.

Motivation is one of the essential parts of the learning process. Motivation can be interpreted as the students’ desire to learn something because the higher motivation, the better students will be. The purpose of this study is to explore the level of student motivation toward the use of Google classroom in learning English during the Covid-19 pandemic at SMA N 1 Sukoharjo in the academic year 2020/2021. This study also finds out the dominant type, whether intrinsic or extrinsic motivation. This study uses descriptive qualitative, and the technique uses for collecting the data are questionnaires and interviews. The data were presented by using percentage, frequency, mean score, and standard deviation (S.D). The finding of this study showed that the mean score of intrinsic motivation (3.60) was higher than extrinsic motivation (3.43). The mean score of overall motivation is 3.51 was considered a moderate level of motivation. However, the majority of students learn English best because of their intrinsic motivation. Students are interested in learning English and love to take English classes. Students can do the assignments given by the teacher and want to master the English material taught by the teacher. To master English, students have to study hard and practice it in their daily life. So, teachers must be able to provide various teaching strategies to cope with both intrinsically motivated students and extrinsically motivated ones.

Politeness in speaking is an important point that must be considered in communication. Someone must speak politely so that the message conveyed can be received properly. The researcher uses qualitative method. The primary data in this research has 99 utterances. Data collection techniques are observation, documentation, and interview. Data analysis uses Miles & Huberman‘s theory (1994) namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion. This study aims to find the politeness strategy of the Javanese in the Warung community at Magetan. The object research in this study is the seller and the buyer conversation in warung. The politeness strategy consists of 4 maxims namely, kurmat, andhap asor, tepa selira, and empan papan. The result of this study from 99 utterances, the researcher gets 56 utterances to analyze in politeness strategy. It can be divided into 38 utterances (67,8%) of empan papan maxim and 18 utterances (32,8%) of kurmat maxim.

The purpose of this study is to explore and describe the role of cooperative principles and politeness strategies in forming phatic speech acts in women's communication on Facebook. This research is qualitative research. This study applies an ethnographic approach. The data type used is qualitative in words, sentences, photographs, documents, journals, and articles. The primary data in this study is the speech of women who are divided into categories, namely adult women and adolescents. The data collection techniques are interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique used the ethnographic analysis model introduced by Spradley. The research results show that adult women implement the cooperative principles of relevance maxims and quality maxims. They also violate the cooperative principles of relevance maxim, quality maxim, and quantity maxim, while the politeness strategy applies positive politeness strategies. Negative politeness strategy, off-record strategy, and bald on-record strategies. The findings that adult women have analyzed tend to apply the maxim of relevance, violate the principle of cooperation of relevance, and use positive politeness strategies. Teenagers use phatic speech acts by applying the principles of relevance and method cooperation, violating the maxims of relevance, quantity, and quality and using positive politeness and bald off-record strategies. Overall, dominant adolescents perform phatic speech acts by applying the maxim of manner, violating the maxim of relevance, and using positive politeness strategies.

Serat Wulangreh merupakan salah satu karya fenomenal dari Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwana IV. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis nilai pendidikan karakter pada tembang Kinanthi, Sinom dan Girisa dalam Serat Wulangreh, metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif, sampel penelitian diambil masing-masing 5 gatra dari tembang Kinanthi, Sinom, dan Girisa dengan teknik purposive sampling, data dianalisis menggunakan teknik content analysis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tembang Kinanthi, Sinom dan Girisa dalam Serat Wulangreh banyak mengandung nilai pendidikan karakter, antara lain nilai religius, jujur, toleransi, disiplin, kerja keras, kreatif, mandiri, rasa ingin tahu, menghargai prestasi, cinta damai, peduli lingkungan, peduli sosial, dan tanggung jawab. Nilai pendidikan karakter dari ke tiga tembang tersebut didominasi oleh nilai menghargai prestasi. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa nilai pendidikan karakter selaras dengan karakter atau sifat dari tiga tembang tersebut.

This study aims to delineate Wiji Thukul's literary praxis as pedagogical content for literary education in tertiary institutions. Pierre Bourdieu's concept of cultural production theory is the theoretical framework employed to elucidate Wiji Thukul's literary practice and its applicability as instructional material in literature studies at universities. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach. The primary data for this investigation consists of various documents, including articles, journalistic notes, and investigative reports. Drawing from this corpus, the data collection method entails a literature review, while content analysis is the primary data analysis technique. The findings of this study underscore the contemporary relevance of Wiji Thukul's literary praxis, thereby advocating its integration as instructional material for literature studies in universities. This recommendation arises from the observation that current teaching materials for literature studies in higher education predominantly concentrate on literary works as objects of study.

Workshops and seminars in the field of education has been widely implemented , but it is still rarely discussed in detail about creating instructional media . In addition , observations of teachers' competence of MGMP Madrasah Tsanawiah Kabupaten Madiun , it can be said that the competence of most teachers are still weak . Most teachers still have many obstacles in achieving the learning objectives. This condition as a background of this teachers' training on making attractive and long lasting media. The success of this program will be seen from (1) the existence of a positive change in attitude and a new understanding of teachers that English learning process can be more fun with the learning media ; (2) the emergence of understanding of the various media that attractive and long lasting in English subject ; and (3) the emergence of innovations in the application of learning media in the classroom
