Abstract

This study aims to delineate Wiji Thukul's literary praxis as pedagogical content for literary education in tertiary institutions. Pierre Bourdieu's concept of cultural production theory is the theoretical framework employed to elucidate Wiji Thukul's literary practice and its applicability as instructional material in literature studies at universities. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach. The primary data for this investigation consists of various documents, including articles, journalistic notes, and investigative reports. Drawing from this corpus, the data collection method entails a literature review, while content analysis is the primary data analysis technique. The findings of this study underscore the contemporary relevance of Wiji Thukul's literary praxis, thereby advocating its integration as instructional material for literature studies in universities. This recommendation arises from the observation that current teaching materials for literature studies in higher education predominantly concentrate on literary works as objects of study.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari metode sugesti imajinasi dan kreativitas terhadap keterampilan menulis puisi menggunakan media visual Ebook Garis Waktu karya Fiersa Besari. Latar belakang dari penelitian mengacu pada rendahnya kemampuan peserta didik dalam mengungkapkan ide, emosi, dan perasaannya melalui puisi, untuk menjawab permasalahan tersebut peneliti menggunakan metode suggestopedia yang digagas oleh Goergi Lozanov. Metode ini mengintegrasikan pada relaksasi, visualisasi, dan stimulus emosional dalam proses pembelajarannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi selama proses pembelajaran puisi di kelas IX A SMPN 8 Madiun. Hasil menunjukkan sebanyak 90% peserta didik mengalami peningkatan dalam aspek imajinasi, keberanian dalam menyampaikan emosi dan perasaan, serta orisinalitas dalam menulis puisi. Suasana kelas yang bebas dari tekanan dan penuh dengan empati, pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dan bermakna membuat peserta didik mudah mencerna apa yang sedang diajarkan. Selain itu, hal ini juga mampu mengembangkan imajinasi peserta didik dalam membuat sebuah puisi.

Abstract

This study examined the use of off-record politeness strategies in the film The Day After Tomorrow, focusing on their role in crisis communication. The analysis was based on Leech’s politeness principle to evaluate the level of politeness and on Brown and Levinson’s theory to classify the strategies used. Eighteen utterances containing off-record strategies were identified and analyzed. Among the sub-strategies, presuppose was found to be the most frequently used, indicating that characters often relied on shared assumptions to communicate politely during high-pressure situations. The findings demonstrated that indirectness through off-record strategies served as a pragmatic tool to reduce the impact of face-threatening acts and maintain social harmony. This study concluded that politeness in crisis contexts is effectively conveyed through indirect speech, especially by using presuppositions. The results offer insights for further research on politeness in various communicative settings and potential applications in language education and discourse analysis.

Abstract

This study examines women’s language features and micro-narcissistic self-presentation in digitally mediated religious discourse, focusing on question-and-answer (Q&A) interactions in the online “Pengajian Sabilu Taubah” led by Gus Iqdam. Adopting a qualitative descriptive design with a sociopragmatic orientation, the study aims to explore how female participants use language to negotiate emotion, politeness, authority, and self-visibility in a publicly streamed religious forum. The data were drawn from five publicly accessible livestream recordings and were selected through purposive sampling based on the presence of direct interaction with female participants, extended utterances, and adequate audio-visual quality. Three women participants were analyzed as primary data sources, while two additional participants were used for confirmatory analysis. The primary research instrument was detailed discourse transcription, including lexical, prosodic, and paralinguistic features. Data analysis followed a theory-driven qualitative content analysis guided by Lakoff’s framework of women’s language and Pearson’s functional classification, with data validation ensured through triangulation and confirmatory analysis. The findings show that women’s language in the Q&A sessions is characterized by expressive-affective features, mitigation strategies, and response-oriented utterances that function to elicit recognition and maintain politeness toward religious authority. Furthermore, micro-narcissistic self-presentation is realized through subtle and socially acceptable linguistic practices, such as admiration-seeking expressions and self-referential narratives, rather than overt self-promotion. This study contributes to sociopragmatic and gender-based discourse research by highlighting women’s linguistic agency in digital religious interaction and by conceptualizing micro-narcissism as an interactional phenomenon shaped by religious norms and public visibility.

Abstract

Racism is a social problem that widespread in society. The existence of racial or ethnic differences makes some people receive discrimination. The fact that race is still relevant in modern society. One of the popular social issues related to racism occurred in New York, America, namely the Central Park Five case. In this case, five black and latina teenagers were victims of wrongful arrest by American police for the alleged attempted rape and murder of a white American woman. The purpose of this research is to analyze the racism by white people especially police and people in American law against black people and how whites frame black people in society which leads to racism in the When They See Us series based on the Central Park Five case. The writers used popular literature and popular culture by Ida Rochani Adi (2011) and racial profiling theory by Luiza- Maria Filimon (2015). The research method used is qualitative descriptive. As a result, the form of racism in the series is racial profiling. The components of racial profiling occur in the series, there are police stops, police arrests, police questions, and police brutality. In addition, the frame practice by white people is to demonize black people. It also makes the Central Park Five boys known as the perpetrators in the Central Park Five case.

Abstract

Serat Wulangreh merupakan salah satu karya fenomenal dari Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwana IV. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis nilai pendidikan karakter pada tembang Kinanthi, Sinom dan Girisa dalam Serat Wulangreh, metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif, sampel penelitian diambil masing-masing 5 gatra dari tembang Kinanthi, Sinom, dan Girisa dengan teknik purposive sampling, data dianalisis menggunakan teknik content analysis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tembang Kinanthi, Sinom dan Girisa dalam Serat Wulangreh banyak mengandung nilai pendidikan karakter, antara lain nilai religius, jujur, toleransi, disiplin, kerja keras, kreatif, mandiri, rasa ingin tahu, menghargai prestasi, cinta damai, peduli lingkungan, peduli sosial, dan tanggung jawab. Nilai pendidikan karakter dari ke tiga tembang tersebut didominasi oleh nilai menghargai prestasi. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa nilai pendidikan karakter selaras dengan karakter atau sifat dari tiga tembang tersebut.
