Abstract

This article is entitled " Japanese Smock Sewing Decorative Techniques on Exotic Dramatic Style Clothing". The creation of this work was inspired by an exotic dramatic style that displays a more expressive impression and elevates elements of local culture and wisdom. The artist embodies this concept into clothing by using Lurik Woven Fabric and Silungkang Songket combined with Satin material. The clothing created consists of three levels of clothing, namely Ready to Wear, Ready to Wear Deluxe, and Haute Couture. In the creation of this work, the artist uses the Japanese smock technique which will produce a raised texture in the form of waves arranged regularly to create decorative flowers. The choice of the Japanese smock technique is also based on the artist's experience in learning the technique through fabric manipulation during college so that the artist understands the character and visual potential that will be produced. The materials used in the creation of the work are Donatello satin fabric, Lurik woven fabric, Silungkang songket. The creation method starts from searching for sources of ideas and references, making designs, selecting materials, to changing the work. The results of the work show that the application of Japanese smocking techniques to Exotic Dramatic Style clothing is able to produce a unique clothing appearance through the Fabric Manipulation Technique.

Abstract

The work entitled "Application of Marawa Colors in Contemporary Fashion" is inspired by the colors of the Marawa, a traditional cultural symbol of the Minangkabau community. The contemporary garments feature asymmetric silhouettes designed with a simple yet elegant appearance. The arrangement of the Marawa colors is visually represented through the composition of fringes made from yarn, creating a distinctive decorative element. The designs incorporate layered contemporary garments combined with Silungkang woven songket fabric. The color palette follows the traditional Marawa colors black, red, and yellow using cotton drill, premium cotton, Ima cotton, and Silungkang songket as the primary materials. The creative process began with collecting references related to the design concept, followed by concept development, field observation, and the formulation of the creative idea. This collection was developed based on the Trend Forecasting 2026/2027 theme "Fringe", which emphasizes garments featuring fringe details. The use of materials such as strands of yarn, cords, tassels, and similar decorative elements characterizes this trend. In this collection, fringe is interpreted through the application of fringes and tassel embellishments combined with dangling beads, and further enriched with sashiko embroidery and bead embroidery techniques

Abstract

The final project titled "Open Weave With a Exotic Dramatic Style" involves the creation of fashion pieces that embody the exotic dramatic style concept and utilize an open weave decorative technique. The project presents three categories of garments: ready-to-wear, ready-to-wear deluxe, and haute couture. These are crafted from high-quality material such as semi-wool, bridal fabric, and tulle combined with traditional batik and lurik woven fabric. The creative process involved several stages: exploration, field observation, literature review, visual design (moodboard and sketches), and final execution. Regarding visual elements and design principles, the design incorporates linear elements (horizontal for the weft and vertical for the warp). An ethnic nuance is emphasized by using lurik fabric for the warp structure of the weave and batik as the primary garment material. To maintain the strength, stability, and consistent spacing of the open weave pattern, a locking technique using hand-stitched blind hems (sum) was applied. Decorative detail specifically sequin embroidery and accessorie were added to enhance the aesthetic, creating a look that is luxurious, dramatic, and expressive. This work aims to foster pride in cultural identity, broaden perspectives within the fashion world, and inspire the younger generation to develop fashion rooted in local culture. The resulting pieces are titled "Ethereal Interlace" (ready-to-wear), "Lattice of Elegance" (ready-to-wear deluxe), and "The Woven Enchantment" (haute couture).

Abstract

The work entitled “Futuristic Urban Style with Reversible Technique” is a process of designing and realizing clothing that integrates contemporary urban concepts with futuristic aesthetics through an innovative and functionality-oriented design approach. The creation of this work is motivated by the development of a dynamic, expressive urban lifestyle, and is influenced by streetwear culture and global Trends that are moving towards adaptive and sustainable forms of fashion. The concept design was carried out through stages of visual exploration, literature study, Trend analysis, moodboard preparation, alternative sketch creation, and the design selection process which is realized into three levels of clothing   Ready to wear,     Ready to wear deluxe, and Haute couture so that the work show has the theme “backblack”. The three levels represent different design developments based on the level of technical complexity, material exploration, and construction complexity. The artist uses materials such as leather, denim, and textiles with futuristic characters, combined with fabric manipulation quilting techniques and manual abstract paintings as the main visual elements. This work aims to construct a futuristic urban fashion identity that not only prioritizes artistic and experimental values, but also responds to the needs of urban society for practical, flexible, and highly durable clothing. This creation is expected to contribute to the development of contemporary fashion design in Indonesia, especially in the development of reversible techniques and exploration of sustainability-based design. In addition, this work functions as a form of artistic practice that reflects the relationship between future aesthetics, textile technology, and the dynamics of urban culture in the realm of modern fashion.
