Abstract

Abstract

Background: Anemia remains a major global health concern, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where distinguishing Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) from Anemia of Inflamation (AI) remains diagnostically challenging. Hemoglobin alone cannot differentiate these conditions, necessitating more specific biomarkers. Serum ferritin, the primary iron-storage protein, reflects body iron reserves but is also elevated during inflammation through interleukin-6-mediated hepcidin induction. Objective: This review examines the dual role of ferritin as an iron biomarker and an inflammatory marker. Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, and the Cochrane Library with a ten-year publication limit. Of the 89 articles identified, only eight studies met the inclusion criteria and directly evaluated the relationship between ferritin, iron status, and inflammatory processes. Results: Ferritin remains a key indicator of iron reserves, but its interpretation needs to take into account the inflammatory status. Conclusion: The combination of ferritin with inflammatory biomarkers such as C-Reactive Protein (CRP)and Alpha-1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) improves the diagnostic accuracy for anemia related to both iron deficiency and inflammation.

Abstract

Early marriage refers to marriage occurring before the age of 18 years and remains a significant social and public health concern. Several factors contribute to the practice of early marriage, including environmental influences, family conditions, and adolescents’ personal perspectives. In the family context, parenting style is regarded as a significant factor influencing adolescents' comprehension and attitudes regarding social issues, such as early marriage. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parenting styles and adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes toward early marriage among students at SMPN 2 Singosari, Malang. This study employed a cross-sectional design. Using simple random sampling, 72 ninth-graders were chosen from a population of 244 students to make up the sample. Structured questionnaires that evaluated parenting style, knowledge, and attitudes toward early marriage were used to gather data. The Chi-square test was used to analyze the data at a significance level of (p < 0.05). Adolescents' knowledge of early marriage was significantly correlated with parenting style (p < 0.001). Adolescents' opinions regarding early marriage were also significantly correlated with parenting style (p < 0.001). Parenting style is significantly related to both adolescents’ knowledge and their attitudes in responding to early marriage among students at SMPN 2 Singosari, Malang.

Abstract

Introduction: Self-esteem plays an important role in mental health and personal development. However, limited evidence is available regarding the relationship between mother–daughter relationships and self-esteem among midwifery students, particularly in the Indonesian context. Objective: This study aims to examine the association between mother-daughter relationship and self-esteem among undergraduate midwifery students at Brawijaya University. Method: with a cross-sectional. A total of 174 female students were selected from cohorts 2022–2024. The Mother-Adult Daughter Questionnaire (MADQ) was used to assess mother-daughter relationship and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) was used to measure self-esteem. Data were analyzed using Spearman rank correlation and ordinal logistic regression. This study employed an observational analytical design. Results and Discussion: Most respondents had high self-esteem and strong mother-daughter relationships. All three dimensions connectedness (r 0.386; p < 0.05;), interdependency dimension has a significant relationship with self-esteem (p < r 0.189; p<0.05), and the trust in hierarchy (; r 0.278 ; p < 0.05) were significantly associated with self-esteem. In multivariate analysis, only connectedness remained a significant predictor. Conclusion: Mother-daughter relationship are significantly associated with self-esteem among midwifery students, with emotional connectedness emerging as the most influential factor. These findings highlight the importance of supportive family relationships in promoting students’ psychological well-being
