Indonesia's young generation as the nation's successor is required to be able to adjust to the development of digital technology in the Era of Society 5.0. Digitalization has a huge impact on the character of the younger generation, especially the religious character which is currently fading. The actualization of the first precept towards religious character is needed for the younger generation to improve their spirituality. This study aims to understand the relationship of the first precept to the improvement of the religious character of the younger generation in the 5.0 era. The research method used is descriptive analysis with a mixed approach (Mix Method). This research uses data collection techniques in the form of distributing questionnaires to respondents, which are then reviewed using literature review or literature study from related sources. The results of this study indicate that the actualization of the first precept is an important part of creating a religious character of the younger generation, because it has a strong relevance to one's personality. This study seeks to improve the religious character of the younger generation by implementing the noble values contained in the first precept of Pancasila.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of religious moderation education in preventing bullying in schools. A qualitative approach was used, employing observation techniques at a vocational school in Central Java. The study focused on the concept of religious moderation within the school, the learning process, and the integration of moderate values, mindsets, and attitudes. Data were collected through interviews with six respondents, including the school principal, two guidance counselors, an Islamic education teacher, two students, and from school documents such as annual activity reports and teaching modules. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively, using triangulation of sources and techniques, which involved comparing and validating data from various sources (school principal, guidance counselors, Islamic education teacher, students) and school documents to ensure the validity and consistency of the findings. The results of the study reveal that the strategy of instilling religious moderation was implemented through teacher role modeling, the integration of values such as tolerance, justice, and anti-violence in lessons, daily religious activities, student empowerment as agents of change through the Roots Indonesia program, and cross-curricular collaboration. This strategy contributed to creating an inclusive school climate and significantly reduced incidents of verbal bullying. The findings indicate that the implementation of religious moderation values in school education is effective in reducing bullying behaviors and fostering a more inclusive, tolerant, and diverse learning environment.

Abstract

This study explores how students experience emotional and spiritual engagement in Universitas Terbuka’s (UT) online tahsin al-Qur’an (Qur’anic recitation) course. Using a mixed-methods design with a qualitative emphasis, data were collected from 30 undergraduate students of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) program through a 20-item survey and reflective writing prompts. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, while qualitative data underwent six-step thematic analysis. Findings reveal three major themes: (1) enhanced motivation to improve tajwīd and correct recitation errors through compassionate feedback; (2) strengthened spiritual engagement resulting from tutor presence, reflective practices, and communal rituals; and (3) deepened daily interaction with the Qur’an, evidenced by consistent muroja’ah, mindful prayer, and increased voluntary worship. These outcomes indicate that online tahsin can cultivate both technical proficiency and spiritual intimacy when designed with empathy, reflection, and structured mentorship. Theoretically, the study extends Reeve’s affective engagement framework into the domain of digital Islamic pedagogy, while practically offering design principles for spiritually-enriched distance learning. It concludes that online Qur’anic education, when humanized and reflective, can serve not only as a medium of instruction but as a transformative spiritual journey.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia’s rich cultural and religious diversity poses both challenges and opportunities in fostering inclusive academic environments. This ethnographic study aims to explore the construction and enactment of multicultural values within interfaith academic collaboration among lecturers at Universitas Terbuka (UT), Indonesia’s leading open and distance education institution. Utilizing a qualitative ethnographic design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The study involved four lecturers representing different religious affiliations: Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, and Buddhism. Thematic analysis identified three core findings: (1) religious differences are navigated through mutual respect, professionalism, and shared pedagogical goals; (2) multicultural values such as tolerance, equity, and inclusivity are embedded in teaching practices and research collaborations; and (3) interfaith dialogue is facilitated through adaptive and dialogical communication strategies. These findings reveal that UT’s interfaith academic practices are grounded in both ethical commitment and institutional support for diversity, contributing to a cohesive and productive academic climate. The study highlights the strategic role of multicultural ethics in enhancing educational quality and institutional resilience. It offers practical insights for higher education policymakers in designing effective frameworks for interfaith engagement and intercultural competence development. Furthermore, this research enriches theoretical discourses on multiculturalism in professional academic settings and suggests directions for future comparative or longitudinal studies to examine interfaith dynamics in broader educational landscapes.

Abstract

Several marine research have attempted to design a data observation system using Internet of Things (IoT). In the future, this system is predicted to become a necessity for marine researchers as a strategic technology to continuously access data. Therefore, this study provides information on the development and application of observation and data collection systems using IoT. The coastal weather and tidal data were obtained via the automatic coastal weather station and acoustic gauge respectively. Meanwhile, the various research activities commenced in July, 2018. In the first year, an operational observation system was developed, while comprehensive baseline data such as air temperature, humidity, wind speed, and sea surface level were also collected. This collection system is reliable, provides real-time data, and easily accessible with internet connection. Furthermore, the Bintan Marine Observation System (The Bintan MOS) is also suitable for other uses such as; monitoring water quality and marine mammals, as well as disaster mitigation. The adoption of this system by other sectors potentially conditions marine researchers for data exchange, to fully understand the fluctuations in coastal weather of Western and Eastern Indonesia as well as the tropical and sub-tropical marine weather. This study successfully developed the Bintan MOS, capable of providing reliable information both off-line and real-time.Keywords:Marine observation systemCoastal weatherTidalBintan
