Abstract

Language development in early childhood is a fundamental foundation for the formation of thinking, communication, and social skills. This research aims to explore in-depth and develop effective strategies for stimulating early childhood language development, as well as to identify challenges and solutions through the implementation of Action Research in two Early Childhood Education (ECE) institutions in Bandung City. This study adopts a qualitative approach with a dual case study design combined with Action Research. The study was conducted at PAUD Rumah Bintang and PAUD Alamanda, Bandung City, involving teachers, students, and principals as subjects. The Action Research design was applied in two cycles, encompassing planning, implementation, observation, and reflection, to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies directly in the field. Data collection involved participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman with triangulation techniques for data validity. The research findings indicate that the implementation of Action Research successfully optimized diverse language stimulation strategies, including read-aloud practices and interactive conversations, adapted to the unique context of each ECE institution. Another key finding is the adaptive strategies in addressing challenges such as limited resources and children's diverse language backgrounds, with solutions emerging from the cycle of reflection and field-based improvement. This study recommends the Action Research approach as an effective framework for ECE educators and institutions to continuously develop and tailor language learning strategies. Keywords: Action research, childdDevelopment, early childhood, language development, learning strategies.

Abstract

Abstract

The training on optimizing the role of language in strengthening the mental health of youth in the Karang Taruna of Karanganyar Village was conducted to enhance participants’ awareness and ability to use language as a tool for emotional regulation, empathetic communication, and social support. This community service program involved 22 youths and was carried out through three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The training employed interactive lectures, group discussions, simulations, and reflective activities, supported by pretest and posttest assessments. The pretest results showed an average score of 85.46, which increased to 94.71 in the posttest with a median score of 100, indicating a significant improvement in participants’ understanding. Demographic data revealed diverse age groups and professional backgrounds among participants, demonstrating the relevance of the program for a heterogeneous youth community. Beyond increasing knowledge, the training encouraged participants to apply positive and empathetic language in daily interactions and to recognize the importance of self-talk as part of mental well-being. These findings confirm that language-based literacy interventions are effective in strengthening youths’ psychological resilience and hold potential as a community empowerment model that can be replicated in other village settings.

Abstract

Abstract

The background of this research is the low interest and reading ability of students, as reflected by the minimal visits to the library and reading corners, as well as the lack of reading habits both at school and at home. To address this problem, this study aims to examine and analyze the implementation of literacy journal activities in improving the reading skills of elementary school students and to identify and analyze the impact of these literacy journal activities. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach, employing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The validity of the data is strengthened through triangulation techniques and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data collection, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results show that literacy journal activities significantly improve students’ reading abilities, as evidenced by an 88.89% literacy achievement in the educational report. Besides the improvement in reading skills, these activities also have a positive impact on increasing students’ interest in reading, enhancing their self-confidence, and strengthening the involvement of parents and teachers in supporting the students’ learning process. Thus, literacy journal activities are proven to be effective and are recommended to be implemented sustainably as a strategy to improve the literacy culture in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness of the read-aloud method in enhancing receptive and expressive language skills in early childhood through a qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Using literature from reputable databases (2010–2025), the study filtered 167 identified articles down to 12 core papers for thematic analysis. Findings indicate that the read-aloud method significantly improves story comprehension, vocabulary expansion, and children's ability to communicate and retell stories. Key success factors include active teacher-child interactions, such as expressive intonation, predictive questioning, and two-way dialogue. Beyond linguistic gains, the method strengthens foundational literacy, increases engagement, and fosters a positive attitude toward books. The study concludes that the read-aloud method is a valid, relevant, and essential strategy for early childhood education (ECE) institutions. Implementing this method routinely and structurally is recommended to optimize language and literacy development in young learners. As a proven pedagogical tool, it bridges the gap between basic communication and advanced literacy readiness.

Abstract

This research was all about finding a fun and effective new way to help young kids understand literacy and numeracy. We used an ethnomathematics approach, which means we taught math by connecting it to local culture. The study took place on February-June 2025, at TK Nusa Indah in Semarang, where we observed one class of preschool children. We gathered our data by watching them, talking to their teacher, and looking at the things they made. The results were great! The mask-making activity was a huge success. A full 90% of the kids were able to understand and explain geometric shapes (like circles and triangles) and numbers (for example, counting the eyes on their masks) in a creative way. This showed us that when learning is tied to things that are familiar and interesting to them—like their own local culture—abstract ideas become much easier to grasp and feel more meaningful. This approach proves that education can be a bridge between a child’s culture and their cognitive development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by reading card media in improving the reading skills of lower-grade elementary school students. The research applied a quantitative experimental approach with a one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 21 first-grade students from SD Negeri 3 Sengonwetan, Grobogan Regency. Data collection techniques included pretests and posttests to measure students' initial and final reading abilities, as well as observations, interviews, and documentation for in-depth supporting data. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ reading abilities. The average pretest score was 79.76, which increased to 95.24 in the posttest. Statistical t-test analysis showed a significance value of 0.004 (< 0.05) with a t-count of 3.281 > t-table 1.725, indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Additionally, assessment results in letter reading, word reading, and syllable reading revealed that most students achieved perfect scores, demonstrating mastery of basic reading skills (BRS).Observational and interview data further confirmed that using reading card media within the PBL framework enhanced students’ learning motivation, self-confidence, and active participation. Students showed greater enthusiasm in reading activities and were able to complete reading tasks independently and in groups. In conclusion, the PBL model integrated with reading card media is proven to be an effective instructional strategy for significantly improving elementary students' reading skills, both in cognitive and affective aspects.
