Abstract

The phenomenon of fatherlessness, or the lack of paternal involvement in parenting, is a social issue that is increasingly receiving attention in Indonesia, yet remains poorly understood. This study aims to determine the percentage of Lambung Mangkurat University students' perceptions of the fatherlessness phenomenon that is prevalent on social media, by examining three perceptual factors: attention, interpretation, and knowledge. The method used was descriptive quantitative through a survey of students from the 2021-2024 intake. The sampling technique was simple random sampling. The instrument used was an online questionnaire that was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Data collection commenced with the preparation and pilot testing of the questionnaire, followed by validity and reliability tests, and then its online distribution via Google Forms. The results showed that 64% of respondents had a perception percentage influenced by the attention factor regarding fatherlessness, 60% by the interpretation factor regarding fatherlessness, and 45% by the knowledge factor regarding fatherlessness. In conclusion, the survey revealed that students have a high level of awareness regarding the importance of fathers' roles. They recognize that the absence or suboptimal role of fathers can have negative impacts, such as low self-esteem, difficulty managing emotions, and a tendency toward juvenile delinquency. This study recommends integrating fatherlessness into guidance and counseling education and developing preventive programs for adolescents, such as group guidance, classroom sessions, and school activities that involve collaboration between parents, especially fathers, and their children.

Abstract

Academic stress is a common problem experienced by junior high school (SMP) students due to the increasing demands of learning and the dynamics of early adolescent development. If not managed adaptively, academic stress can reduce students' learning motivation and psychological well-being. This study aims to test the effectiveness of mindfulness-based group counseling, delivered through a mindfulness group counseling guidebook, in reducing academic stress among junior high school students. The study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental intact-group comparison design. The study subjects were 12 eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 24 Banjarmasin who were in the high academic stress category and were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The research instrument was an academic stress questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability testing, with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.889. The intervention was delivered through four group counseling sessions using breathing-in and breathing-out techniques, the 'know your emotion' exercise, body-scan meditation, and 'thank you'. Data analysis used an independent samples t-test. The results showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p < 0.05), with the experimental group showing a greater reduction in academic stress. These findings indicate that mindfulness-based group counseling is effective in reducing academic stress in junior high school students and has the potential to be developed as a preventive and responsive intervention in guidance and counseling services in schools.

Abstract

Students at the secondary education level, especially in vocational high schools, face various academic demands that require cognitive and emotional readiness. The development of digital technology has made gadgets an inseparable part of students' lives, both for academic and non-academic purposes. However, uncontrolled gadget use has the potential to lead to gadget addiction, which can disrupt learning concentration, reduce effective learning time, and increase academic stress. This condition can trigger academic anxiety in students. Therefore, it is important to examine the effect of gadget addiction on students' academic anxiety. This study aims to analyze the effect of gadget addiction on the academic anxiety of students majoring in Computer Network and Telecommunication Engineering (TJKT) at SMK Negeri 2 Banjarmasin. This study uses a quantitative approach with an influence research type. The research sample consisted of 89 students, selected through a cluster sampling technique. Data were collected using a gadget addiction scale and an academic anxiety scale, and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results of the analysis show that gadget addiction has a positive and significant effect on students' academic anxiety, as evidenced by a regression significance value of <0.05 and a coefficient of determination of 0.244. Thus, it can be concluded that gadget addiction is one of the factors contributing to increased academic anxiety in students.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the most important 21st-century skills students need to develop to analyse, evaluate, and make rational decisions. However, in practice, students' critical thinking skills remain low because learning tends to be one-way and lacks exploratory activities. The gap between the demands for developing critical thinking skills and the implementation of learning in schools is the basis for this research. This study aims to determine the effect of the Round of Dragon Snake Rainbow game on the critical thinking skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 17 Banjarmasin. The study used a quantitative approach within the influence research type. The research subjects were 29 students selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a Likert scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analysed using prerequisite tests (normality, homogeneity, and linearity) and hypothesis testing with simple linear regression and a t-test in SPSS. The study results indicate that the Round of Dragon Snake Rainbow game has a positive and significant effect on students' critical thinking skills, with a significance level < 0.05 (p = 0.001) and a t-value (3.707) greater than the t-table (2.052). These findings indicate that educational games can create active, interactive, and enjoyable learning experiences, thereby fostering greater critical thinking among students. These findings indicate that educational games can create active, interactive, and enjoyable learning experiences, thereby fostering greater critical thinking among students. Thus, the Round of Dragon Snake Rainbow game can serve as an alternative medium for guidance and counselling to develop critical thinking skills in schools.

Abstract

Smoking behavior among adolescents remains a serious problem in the health and education sectors. The low level of students' understanding of the dangers of smoking indicates the need for educational media that can actively involve students in guidance and counseling services. The Stairs & Cigarettes game was developed as an educational game to improve understanding of the dangers of smoking, but its implementation needs to be evaluated systematically. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Stairs & Cigarettes game using the Tyler evaluation model by examining the suitability of the objectives formulation, implementation conditions, measurement techniques, and the comparison of pre-test and post-test results regarding understanding the dangers of smoking among adolescents. The study employed a mixed-methods approach with an evaluation research design. The subjects were 34 students of grades X-F of SMA Negeri 9 Banjarmasin. Qualitative data were obtained through interviews with guidance and counseling teachers and analysis of RPL documents. In contrast, quantitative data were collected through pre- and post-test questionnaires assessing understanding of the dangers of smoking, based on the Health Belief Model. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and a paired-samples t-test. The results showed that the formulation of objectives, the implementation context, the measurement techniques, and the comparison of results were consistent with the principles of the Tyler evaluation model. There was a significant increase in students' understanding of the dangers of smoking after participating in classical guidance services using the educational game Stairs & Cigarettes (p < 0.001). The implementation of the game Stairs & Cigarettes was in accordance with the service's objectives and has the potential to serve as an alternative medium for guidance and counseling, helping increase adolescents' understanding of the dangers of smoking.

Abstract

Emotional and behavioural problems in early childhood are often overlooked, even though they can hinder children’s overall development. Kindergarten teachers play a vital role in identifying such issues and providing appropriate support. This community service project aimed to strengthen the competencies of teachers at TKITQ Bakkah Martapura through a one-day participatory training in guidance and counselling. The method involved pre-test, material presentation, group discussions, simulations, and post-test. The results revealed a significant improvement, with the average score increasing from 62.18 in the pre-test to 74.50 in the post-test. Beyond the numbers, teachers reported greater confidence in using simple tools for early detection as well as a better understanding of preventive and intervention strategies. In conclusion, a short yet practical training can have a meaningful impact on teachers’ competence. Nevertheless, ongoing support and follow-up programs are essential to ensure that the skills gained are consistently applied in classroom practice.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of dark humor on cyberbullying behavior among vocational high school (SMK) students. Using a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression design, it involved 88 SMK students selected via total purposive sampling. Data were gathered using the dark humor scale (Cronbach's α = 0.943) and cyberbullying scale (Cronbach's α = 0.867), both tested for validity and reliability. The hypothesis that dark humor positively affects cyberbullying behavior was confirmed, evidenced by the regression equation Y = 27.121 + 0.520X, correlation coefficient R = 0.661, coefficient of determination R² = 0.473 (47.3% contribution), F-value = 66.691 (Sig. = 0.000), and t-value = 8.166 (p < 0,001). Classical assumptions of normality (Kolmogorov-Smirnov Sig. = 0.119) and homoscedasticity were fulfilled. Dark humor significantly and positively influences cyberbullying among SMK students. This research enriches the psychological literature on cyberbullying by highlighting dark humor as a key predictor. The findings support developing school counseling programs to reduce dark humor tendencies and prevent cyberbullying
