Abstract

Preschool-aged children who experience hospitalization in a pediatric ward often face a variety of emotional challenges, including emotional exhaustion. Hospitalization is a frightening and stressful experience for children, especially when they are separated from their family and peers. Visual art and animation film therapy have been recognized as effective therapeutic methods for addressing children's emotional exhaustion and stress. Visual arts play therapy allows children to express their feelings, overcome anxiety, and build emotional connections with their surroundings. The study aimed to look at the effects of visual art play therapy and animated films on managing emotional exhaustion in hospitalized preschool-age children. The data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires given to parents. The result obtained by the treatment group's mean emotional exhaustion score before the action was 32.20, and after the action was 21.80. Wilcoxon statistical analysis, p-value = 0.001. So, it is concluded that there is a significant decrease in children's emotional exhaustion before and after therapy. The conclusion of this study can help improve the care and well-being of preschool children who experience hospitalization, as well as provide valuable insights for health practitioners and educators in supporting the emotional development of children in challenging medical situations.

Abstract

Wound care in a moist environment is superior to a dry environment. Appropriate wound care methods can help accelerate the healing of gangrenous wounds. This study aimed to determine diabetic wound healing using the modern hydrocolloid dressing method. This experimental research design utilized pre-test and post-test techniques to assess the difference in the effect of gangrene wound care with modern hydrocolloid dressings on gangrene wound healing in diabetic patients. The study was conducted at USU Teaching Hospital Medan for 14 days, involving 20 respondents with Type II DM patients experiencing gangrene wounds, obtained through non-probability sampling. Data analysis was performed using the independent t-test. The results showed a significant difference in gangrene wound care with the modern hydrocolloid dressing method (p < 0.05). The modern hydrocolloid dressing method led to faster healing of gangrene wounds. Conclusion: respondents who used the modern hydrocolloid dressing method experienced better wound status development and faster healing. It is expected that hospitals will plan and establish SOPs for wound care in DM patients with gangrene using modern hydrocolloid dressings and reduce the use of conventional methods. These implications highlight the importance of implementing modern methods in wound care protocols for patients with diabetes mellitus with gangrene, mainly to prevent amputation and improve patients' quality of life. Recommendations include the implementation of modern wound care SOPs, training for health workers, patient and family education, further research, and the procurement of modern dressings.

Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelago consisting of around 17,508 islands, 70% of which are oceans. Indonesia's seas are rich in natural resources, including coral reefs and marine animals. However, this natural wealth can cause problems and is fatal to humans due to stings from animals in the sea. In other emergency conditions, people can drown, causing suffocation and heart attacks. First aid in emergencies is basic life support (BLS), which can be done by people who have received training. Tanjung Karang Beach is a domestic and international tourist destination; however, health services and experts in providing BLS are not yet available. The data from 2015 to 2022 reported the occurrences of tourist vehicle accidents, tourists were stung by Marlyn fish stabs, and the incident of people drowning resulted in death without emergency action. This study aimed to determine the effect of BLS training on applying BLS and standard operational procedures in emergency first aid. The research method was a quasi-experimental pretest and posttest group design. The population was lifeguards and tourist vehicle drivers, with samples taken purposively. The measurement of the application of BLS was carried out twice: before and after training. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analyses. The results showed a mean value before training was 1.37, with a standard deviation was 0.684. The mean value after training was 14.63, and the standard deviation was 1.383. The dependent T-test results were 13.263, and the standard deviation was 1.327, with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0,005). The conclusion is that BLS training affects the application and operational standards of BLS training. Training members are recommended to apply for BLS in caring for the victims, and the Donggala Regency Government is to organize a tourist clinic in Tanjung Karang Beach and empower training personnel as rescuers.

Abstract

Aging is a natural process that occurs in every individual throughout his life. One aspect that is closely related to aging is a change in physical fitness. Physical fitness is an important factor that affects the quality of life and well-being of the elderly. The growth rate of the elderly population by the year 2030 is estimated to be greater than the age of adolescents and young people by about 2.1 billion, compared to 2 billion worldwide. The goal of the community dedication is to improve the quality of life of the elderly by improving their physical fitness through the exercise of the elders, because exercising can increase muscle strength and flexibility and thus help them to live a healthier and more fit life in their communities. The activity was carried out in the village of Tete B. Ampana Tete was followed by 15 people, along with 5 people. The results of the activity can be described as follows: all the seniors who attended the gym can follow well and walk smoothly, with no obstacles or injuries. There are three elderly people who have arthritis and hearing loss and are so slow to follow instructions, but they can finish the activity well. The conclusion that can be drawn is that the more frequently doing gymnastics with the elderly, the better the older's health.

Abstract

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of global death and shows an increasing trend in Indonesia, including in semi-urban and rural areas such as Marawola District, Sigi Regency. Low health literacy and limited access to services are challenges in preventing and detecting this disease. This community service activity aims to improve early detection and promotive-preventive interventions of cardiovascular diseases through the Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) approach. The implementation method involved seven villages with a target of 210 heads of families (321 individuals). Activities include coordination, socialization, health screening (blood pressure, blood sugar levels, cholesterol, BMI, and abdominal circumference), health education, and profession-based interventions (nursing, midwifery, nutrition, and sanitation). The screening results showed the prevalence of hypertension at 44.1%, pre-hypertension at 48.7%, diabetes mellitus at 11.5%, high cholesterol at 39%, and obesity and overweight at 43.6%. The collaborative intervention through education about the efforts of blood pressure and improved participants' understanding of nutrition, environmental cleanliness, and medication adherence. The discussion emphasized that the IPC accelerates problem identification, enriches interventions, and increases community involvement. However, limited time and laboratory equipment are obstacles that must be fixed in future activities. In conclusion, integrating IPC in community-based cardiovascular screening and intervention programs is feasible and sustainable.
