Knowledge Improvement: The average knowledge score increased from 65.2 ± 10.1 to 82.7 ± 8.5, reflecting an increase of 26.9% (p < 0.05). Improved Attitudes: 85% of participants switched to a more positive outlook on adopting a heart-healthy diet, with the Likert scale rating increasing from 3.2 ± 0.8 to 4.5 ± 0.6 (p < 0.05).  This program effectively improves dietary knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors among the elderly in Gubeng Regency.

The high prevalence of poor breakfast habits and low physical activity among adolescents in Gresik, which exceeds national and provincial rates, highlights a nutritional concern requiring further investigation. This cross-sectional study involved 52 randomly selected eighth-grade students at UPT SMP Negeri 25 Gresik. Data on breakfast habits, physical activity, and nutritional status were collected through interviews and anthropometric measurements, then analyzed using the Chi-square test with SPSS. Results showed that 75% had good breakfast habits and 90.4% engaged in light physical activity. Nutritional status indicated 40.4% had normal weight, 38.5% were overweight, 7.7% were obese, and 15.4% were undernourished. There was no significant relationship between breakfast habits and nutritional status (p = 0.084), but physical activity showed a significant association with nutritional status (p = 0.043), confirmed by Fisher’s Exact Test (p = 0.008). In conclusion, physical activity was significantly associated with nutritional status, while breakfast habits were not. Schools and parents should promote regular physical activity and healthy eating to support adolescent health and prevent overweight and obesity.

Abstract

Background: Stunting in toddlers is primarily caused by inadequate macronutrient intake and repeated infections. This study aims to describe the intake of macronutrients and the history of infectious diseases among stunted toddlers in the working area of Kamal Health Center, Bangkalan Regency. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted involving 25 stunted toddlers. Stunting status was assessed using height-for-age z-scores. Data on macronutrient intake (energy, protein, fat, carbohydrates) and history of acute respiratory infections (ARI) and diarrhea were collected through structured interviews with caregivers. The data were analyzed using frequency and percentage distributions. Results: Most subjects were girls (52%) and aged 24–36 months (36%). Energy intake deficits were found in 72% of toddlers, protein in 84%, fat in 76%, and carbohydrates in 68%. All respondents had experienced at least one ARI episode, and 56% had a history of diarrhea. Many children with infections also had light to moderate macronutrient deficits. Conclusion: Chronic deficits in energy and protein, combined with frequent infections, exacerbate the risk of stunting. Integrated nutrition and infection control interventions—especially for children aged 24–36 months—are essential. Strong policy support and improved parental education are needed to implement effective stunting reduction programs at the community level.
