Abstract

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease that progressively damages periodontal supporting tissues as a result of colonization by pathogenic bacteria, especially Porphyromonas gingivalis. This condition is characterized by gingival inflammation, loss of periodontal ligament, and resorption of alveolar bone. Conventional therapy through scaling, root planing, and systemic antibiotics is frequently limited by bacterial resistance, relapse, and potential adverse effects. Therefore, alternative natural agents that are safe and able to support bone regeneration are highly required. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity as well as the biological effect of pineapple (Ananas comosus) prebiotic extract on osteoblast viability. An in vitro experimental design was applied using disc diffusion assays to measure inhibition zones against P. gingivalis and MTT assays to evaluate osteoblast viability. Fermented extracts at concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30% were tested, with metronidazole as a positive control. Results showed concentration-dependent increases in inhibition zones, namely 7.9 mm (10%), 10.42 mm (20%), and 13.22 mm (30%). MTT assays demonstrated enhanced osteoblast viability at 10% (0.534) and 20% (0.600), whereas viability decreased at 30% (0.551), suggesting possible cytotoxicity at higher doses. ANOVA indicated significant differences among groups (p < 0.05). In conclusion, pineapple prebiotic extract exhibits dual therapeutic potential: antibacterial activity against P. gingivalis and stimulation of osteoblast viability, supporting its development as a promising adjuvant therapy for periodontitis with infection control and alveolar bone regeneration benefits. Keywords: Antibacterial, bromelain, pineapple, osteoblast, periodontitis.

Abstract

General Background: Prison inmates face psychological stressors that require strong resilience to adapt and prepare for social reintegration. Specific Background: Psychoeducation focusing on self-optimism is frequently used in correctional settings to support inmates’ mental adjustment, yet outcomes vary. Knowledge Gap: Empirical evidence remains limited regarding how self-optimism psychoeducation relates to changes in inmate resilience, particularly in Indonesian Class I penitentiaries. Aims: This study examined resilience patterns before and after self-optimism psychoeducation among inmates of Class I Surabaya Penitentiary. Results: Using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design with 57 participants, statistical analysis showed no significant difference between pretest and posttest resilience scores, although descriptive data indicated shifts across low, moderate, and high resilience categories. Novelty: The study provides context-specific evidence that informational psychoeducation alone may not sufficiently shift resilience levels within a short intervention period. Implications: Findings suggest that psychoeducation should be integrated with sustained support strategies, such as social support and emotional coping approaches, to better address inmates’ psychological needs and rehabilitation goals.

Abstract

General Background school well-being is crucial for fostering a positive educational environment and promoting student discipline. Specific Background this study investigates the relationship between school well-being and student discipline behavior at a high school. Knowledge Gap while existing research highlights the importance of both constructs, there is limited empirical evidence examining their correlation, particularly in the context of high school students. Aims the research aims to determine whether a significant relationship exists between school well-being and student discipline behavior among students at SMA Avisena. Results analysis revealed a correlation coefficient (rᵪᵧ) of 0.025 with a significance value of 0.747, indicating no significant relationship between the two variables. Despite the absence of a clear correlation, there appears to be a tendency for a connection. Novelty this study contributes to the literature by exploring the dynamics of school well-being and discipline in a high school setting, providing insights into the complexities of student behavior. Implications the findings suggest that while school well-being may not directly influence student discipline behavior, understanding the nuances of their relationship can inform strategies to improve both constructs within educational institutions. Further research is recommended to explore other factors that may mediate or moderate this relationship. Highlights: No significant relationship found between school well-being and student discipline. The study highlights a tendency for a connection despite statistical insignificance. Insights can inform strategies for improving student behavior and well-being. Keywords: School Well-Being, Student Discipline, Correlation, High School, Education

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the influence of mother's education level and employment status on children's readiness for elementary school. Employing a quantitative comparison method, data from 194 children were collected through the NST test and a parental questionnaire. The school readiness, mother's education level, and employment status were assessed. Statistical analysis using SPSS 16.0 and the Anova and t-test techniques revealed that neither the mother's education level (F = 1.139, Sig. = 0.340 > 0.05) nor the employment status (t score = -0.763, Sig. = 0.446 > 0.05) significantly influenced the school readiness of the children. These results suggest that other intervening variables such as parenting styles, socioeconomic status, and child's motivation may be more crucial determinants of a child's preparedness for school. This study offers a novel perspective to parents, educators, and developmental psychologists by challenging conventional assumptions about mother's influence on children's school readiness. Highlights: A mother's education level doesn't significantly influence a child's readiness for elementary school. A mother's employment status (working or non-working) also doesn't significantly affect a child's school readiness. Other factors like parenting styles, socioeconomic status, and child's motivation could be more influential on a child's preparedness for school. Abstract

General Background: Consumptive behavior among university students has become a significant issue in contemporary socio-economic and psychological discourse, particularly in relation to self-regulation and lifestyle orientation. Specific Background: Students are frequently exposed to hedonistic lifestyle patterns and digital consumption trends that shape spending behavior beyond primary needs. Knowledge Gap: Although previous studies have examined self control or hedonistic lifestyle separately, limited empirical research integrates both variables simultaneously in explaining student consumptive behavior within the same analytical model. Aims: This study aims to analyze the relationship between self control and hedonistic lifestyle with consumptive behavior among university students. Results: The findings indicate that self control is negatively associated with consumptive behavior, while hedonistic lifestyle shows a positive association. Simultaneously, both variables contribute significantly to explaining variations in student spending patterns. Novelty: This research offers an integrated empirical examination of self control and hedonistic lifestyle as concurrent predictors within a single quantitative framework. Implications: The results provide a conceptual basis for developing educational interventions and financial awareness programs targeting students to foster responsible consumption patterns. Keywords: Self Control, Hedonistic Lifestyle, Consumptive Behavior, University Students, Quantitative Analysis Key Findings Highlights: Self regulation capacity is inversely related to excessive spending tendencies among respondents. Pleasure oriented life patterns are positively linked to non-essential purchasing decisions. Combined predictors statistically explain variation in student expenditure patterns.
