Abstract

Background: Lingkungan lahan basah memiliki tingkat kemasaman rendah yang menyebabkan sayuran sulit tumbuh.

Abstract

Plant growth is fundamental to understanding biological systems, particularly at the secondary school level. Learning about plant structure is a crucial component of biology education; however, many students find this topic challenging because it is often perceived as abstract. Augmented Reality (AR) technology offers an opportunity to enhance learning experiences by enabling interactive three-dimensional visualizations of plant structures. This study investigates the effect of AR-based GrowLab learning on students’ critical thinking skills in the context of plant structure instruction. A quasi-experimental design was employed involving 142 Grade XII secondary school students in Malang. Critical thinking skills were assessed using essay-based test instruments. Data were analyzed using an ANCOVA test with SPSS version 29. The results indicated that AR-based GrowLab learning had a significant effect on students’ critical thinking skills in teaching plant structure (sig < 0.05). The study concludes that AR positively affected learning, particularly in understanding plant growth and structure. Furthermore, the findings suggest that augmented reality should be integrated with pedagogical approaches such as problem-based learning (PBL) to maximize its effectiveness in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Joyful learning is a strategy that can increase undergraduate student engagement and motivation in learning. This strategy is important for learning animal structures in biology students who have the potential to cause anxiety caused by treatment that is considered to be hurtful to animals. The use of role-playing and augmented reality (AR) technology in learning can provide a more interactive and interesting learning experience, thus providing opportunities for students to enjoy the learning process, as well as train their argumentation skills. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of role playing and augmented reality in the discovery learning model on joyful learning and students' argumentation skills. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample is undergraduate students in Biology Education department who are active in the odd semester of the 2025/2026 academic year and are taking the Animal Structure course. This design compared the conditions of joyful learning and argumentation skills before and after being given treatment in the form of learning Animal Structure topic using the discovery learning model, combined with role-playing assisted by augmented reality. The instruments of this study were a joyful learning questionnaire and an argumentation ability test instrument to collect quantitative data on joyful learning and argumentation skills. Data analysis used a nonparametric analysis of the Wilcoxon test because the data were not homogeneous and not normal. The results showed a significance value (Asymp. Sig. 2 tailed) of 0.00 (<0.05). The effect size on joyful learning was 0.87 and argumentation ability was 0.59. These results confirm that the integration of experience-based pedagogical strategies with immersive technology can create enjoyable learning while fostering students' critical thinking and argumentative skills.

Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can cause menstrual cycle disorders such as oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea, which can be treated with progesterone therapy. The choice of progesterone therapy depends on the patient's clinical condition, the effectiveness of the therapy, and potential side effects. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of progesterone in restoring menstrual cycles in PCOS sufferers. The research method was conducted through a survey using a Google Form distributed to members of the Indonesian PCOS Fighter community. Data included menstrual cycle changes, the type of progesterone used, dosage, duration of consumption, and factors influencing therapy effectiveness. Descriptive and bivariate analyses were used to assess the relationship between variables. The results showed that micronized progesterone was the most commonly used type, but the type of progesterone did not significantly affect therapy effectiveness. Most respondents required 4-6 months for menstrual cycle regularity, and progesterone dosage was not significantly associated with therapy effectiveness. Exercise and a high-protein, low-sugar diet were significantly associated with menstrual cycle regularity, while vitamin D consumption and a history of diabetes or obesity were not significantly associated. The study concluded that the effectiveness of progesterone therapy is more influenced by the patient's metabolic condition, endometrial response, and lifestyle quality. The use of progesterone hormone therapy is considered permissible in Islam as an effort to maintain women's health and fertility.
