Abstract

This research focuses on evaluating music learning using the role-playing method at the Favore Music School in Bandung. The class consists of young children aged 3-4 years who have an interest in practicing music. The Alfred Music curriculum is used as a reference in implementing music learning. The purpose of the study was to see how the role-playing method contained in the curriculum can increase the interest and talent of early childhood in playing music, through the musician figures presented in the method. Data was obtained through observation, interviews, documentation and literature study. The research results show that learning music using the role-playing method can not only improve musical abilities in young children, but also language skills and processing feelings, both emotional, self-confidence and social. In the musical context, the role-playing method using musician characters can motivate children to practice diligently to become proficient in playing music, so that they have the desire to be like the characters they idolize. The implications of this study can be a reference in developing a music learning curriculum. This curriculum was born from New York so that the storyline uses an approach to habits and environmental culture that is common in Western countries. Therefore, it is a good reference for innovating the curriculum by involving regional languages and even prominent musicians in Indonesia and instilling Indonesian cultural values.

Abstract

Program pelatihan penciptaan tari ini dilaksanakan sebagai upaya meningkatkan keterampilan kreatif peserta didik SMA di Kota Pontianak dalam mencipta karya tari kreasi yang berakar pada budaya lokal. Kegiatan dirancang dengan pendekatan partisipatif berbasis praktik kreatif, yang menempatkan siswa sebagai subjek aktif dalam proses pembelajaran. Pelaksanaan program dilakukan melalui empat tahapan utama, yaitu persiapan dan koordinasi dengan sekolah mitra, pelatihan dan eksplorasi gerak, penggarapan karya secara kolaboratif, serta pementasan dan evaluasi. Kegiatan ini melibatkan kurang lebih 30 siswa dan 2 guru serta mahasiswa sebagai pendamping proses penciptaan para peserta didik dari SMA di Kota Pontianak dan sekitarnya. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada kemampuan eksplorasi gerak siswa, dari kondisi awal sekitar 30% menjadi 85% setelah mengikuti pelatihan. Selain itu, seluruh peserta menunjukkan peningkatan keberanian tampil yang ditandai dengan partisipasi aktif dalam pementasan akhir, serta 90% peserta menyatakan pemahaman yang lebih baik terhadap nilai-nilai budaya lokal sebagai sumber inspirasi penciptaan tari. Luaran kegiatan berupa lima karya tari kreasi tematik, modul pelatihan singkat, dan dokumentasi audiovisual dimanfaatkan oleh guru sebagai bahan ajar pendukung pembelajaran seni tari. Program ini memperkuat sinergi antara perguruan tinggi dan sekolah serta berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai model pembelajaran seni berbasis budaya lokal di tingkat sekolah menengah.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi dan kreativitas aransemen musik peserta didik SMA sederajat di Kota Pontianak dan sekitarnya. Latar belakang kegiatan ini berangkat dari fenomena maraknya festival musik antar pelajar di Pontianak yang menuntut peserta didik untuk menampilkan karya musik dengan aransemen yang orisinal dan menarik, namun materi pembelajaran aransemen musik di sekolah masih terbatas pada teori dasar dan waktu praktik yang singkat. Berdasarkan kondisi tersebut, tim pelaksana melaksanakan kegiatan pelatihan aransemen musik bagi peserta didik SMA sebagai upaya pemberdayaan keterampilan seni dan pengembangan kreativitas musikal. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan meliputi penyampaian materi teori dasar aransemen, demonstrasi teknik aransemen sederhana, serta praktik langsung pembuatan aransemen dengan bimbingan instruktur. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 50 orang peserta dari beberapa SMA di Kota Pontianak dan sekitarnya. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman dan kemampuan mereka dalam mengolah elemen-elemen musik seperti melodi, harmoni, ritme, dan progresi akor menjadi karya aransemen sederhana. Selain menghasilkan karya musik, kegiatan ini juga berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan mutu pembelajaran seni budaya di sekolah serta memperkuat peran perguruan tinggi dalam pengembangan kreativitas generasi muda di bidang seni musik.

Abstract

The limited access to traditional Dayak musical instruments, the Dau', drives innovation in music learning in the digital era. This research explores students' perceptions of using cardboard media as a creative alternative in learning the basics of the instrument. Through a qualitative approach, this study found that students responded positively to the cardboard media. Data were collected through participant observation, documentation, and interviews with the 2023 cohort of Performing Arts Education students at Tanjungpura University. Open-ended questions were used to understand how students perceive the cardboard media used in the learning process. Data analysis used triangulation techniques to understand students' opinions regarding the learning media. The research results show that students have a positive view of using cardboard media in the basic music learning of the Dayak. They assess that this media is not only effective in facilitating the understanding of Dayak music concepts but also stimulates creativity and fine motor skills. These findings indicate that cardboard media can be an innovative and flexible solution in traditional music education, especially in resource-limited environments. The implications of this research open up opportunities for further development, such as the integration of augmented reality technology, to create a more immersive and engaging learning experience for the millennial generation.

Abstract

Tari Tiga Serangkai merupakan karya tari dari Sanggar Andari yang tercipta pada tahun 2002 atas respon terhadap konflik etnis yang terjadi di Kalimantan Barat pada tahun 1996. Kemajemukan itu dilihat oleh Kusmindari Triwati bukan sesuatu yang memecah belah justru menjadi simbolik Persatuan dan menjadi dasar terbentuknya tari Tiga Serangkai. Tari yang tidak lepas dari musik pengiringnya tentunya saling berkorelasi dalam konsep persatuan dari berbagai etnis tersebut, sehingga Intensitas Budaya yang terkandung di dalam karya ini menjadi menarik untuk ditelisik lebih dalam terutama sebagai sebuah medium pemersatu masyarakat yang mejemuk di Kalimantan Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif serta Etnomusikologi sebagai pendekatan dalam menggali lebih dalam mengenai intensitas budaya dalam sudut pandang musik. Intensitas budaya yang terkandung dalam karya tari Tiga Serangkai oleh Sanggar Andari tampak melalui penyatuan elemen musik dan tarian dari berbagai latar belakang etnis yang ada di Kalimantan Barat. Intensitas Budaya yang terkandung dalam tari Tiga Serangkai bukan hanya sebuah karya gerak tari namun lebih dalam karya tersebut sebagai sebuah penggambaran sejarah, nilai, serta menjadi ruang dialektika antar suku menuju keharmonisan di Kalimantan Barat.   Tiga Serangkai dance is a dance work from Sanggar Andari that was created in 2002 in response to the ethnic conflict that occurred in West Kalimantan in 1996. The plurality is seen by Kusmindari Triwati as not something that divides, but instead becomes a symbolic unity and becomes the basis for the formation of Tiga Serangkai dance. The dance that cannot be separated from the accompanying music is certainly correlated with the concept of unity of the various ethnicities, so that the Cultural Intensity contained in this work becomes interesting to be examined more deeply, especially as a unifying medium for pluralistic communities in West Kalimantan. This research uses qualitative research using descriptive methods and Ethnomusicology as an approach in digging deeper into cultural intensity from a musical point of view. The cultural intensity contained in the Tiga Serangkai dance work by Sanggar Andari is seen through the unification of music and dance elements from various ethnic backgrounds in West Kalimantan. The cultural intensity contained in Tiga Serangkai dance is not only a work of dance movements but deeper than that work as a depiction of history, values, and a dialectical space between tribes towards harmony in West Kalimantan.

Abstract

Keberhasilan sebuah penyajian kesenian tradisional merupakan hasil dari proses interaksi antar para pemain, baik melalui verbal maupun melalui simbol. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana proses interaksi simbolik antara penari dan pemusik dalam sebuah penyajian musik iringan Tari Rampak Rebana di Sanggar Andari Pontianak. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menyajikan segala proses interaksi yang terjalin dari proses awal garapan, latihan, hingga penyajian karya. Pendekatan penelitian menggunakan pendekatan sosiokultur untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana proses interaksi simbolik terwujud berdasarkan kebiasaan-kebiasaan yang terjadi di lingkungan masyarakat. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Keabsahan data mengguanakan triangulasi sumber, yakni wawancara terhadap pemilik sanggar, komposer musik penari. Teknik analisis data melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan.  Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bentuk penyajian musik iringan Tari Rampak Rebana menjadi upaya pewarisan dalam melestarikan budaya Melayu. Proses ini melalui kegiatan penyampaian ide garapan dari komposer kepada para pemusik, proses latihan antara pemusik dan penari hingga sampai kepada penyajian musik iringan Tari Rampak Rebana. Selain itu, penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa interaksi simbolik tidak serta merta terjadi pada suatu komunitas sanggar, melainkan tumbuh berdasarkan penerimaan ide, penyamaan persepsi dan adaptasi yang berlangsung secara kontinu sehingga menjadi budaya yang perlu dilestarikan.   The success of a traditional art presentation is the result of the process of interaction between the players, both verbally and through symbols. The purpose of this study is to reveal how the process of symbolic interaction between dancers and musicians in a musical presentation accompaniment to Rampak Rebana Dance at Sanggar Andari Pontianak. This research uses qualitative descriptive methods to present all interaction processes that are established from the initial process of cultivation, exercise, to the presentation of works. The research approach uses a sociocultural approach to reveal how the process of symbolic interaction is realized based on habits that occur in the community. Data were collected through observation, interviews and documentation. Data validity using source triangulation, which is an interview with the owner of the studio, the composer of dancer music. Data analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation and conclusions.  The results of this study show that the form of presenting accompaniment music of Rampak Rebana Dance is an inheritance effort in preserving Malay culture. This process is through the activity of conveying ideas made by the composer to the musicians, the process of rehearsal between musicians and dancers to the presentation of music accompaniment to the Rampak Rebana Dance. In addition, this study proves that symbolic interaction does not necessarily occur in a studio community, but grows based on the acceptance of ideas, equalization of perceptions and adaptation that takes place continuously so that it becomes a culture that needs to be preserved.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship betwwen student musical preferences and their literacy of local wisdom in SMPN 01 Sukadana, Kayong Utara, Indonesia. The background of the problem lies in the increasing influence of global digital culture, particulart through platforms such as YouTube, Tiktok, and Spotify which shapes youth identity and shifts their engagement away from local cultural expressions. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through informal interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis of arts education lesson plans. The study involved 66 students and art teachers selected through purposive sampling. The findings show that students’ musical preferences are dominated by global popular genres such as pop, K-Pop, and EDM, while none of the respondents expressed interest in traditional music. This preference pattern correlates with a significantly low level of local cultural literacy, with 87.88% of students unaware of Sukadana’s local traditions, including the traditional Senggayong music, despite its inclusion in the formal curriculum. The analysis indicates that digital exposure, shifting socio-cultural values, and weak intergenerational transmission contribute to this cultural displacement, where global media overshadow local cultural knowledge. The study concludes that students’ musical preferences reflect broader cultural orientations shaped by digital ecosystems, which in turn influence their limited recognition of local wisdom. While the findings provide important insights into cultural dynamics in regional contexts, further research with broader samples is needed to strengthen generalization and develop pedagogical strategies to reinforce local cultural appreciation among youth.

Abstract

This study aims to describe junior high school students' interpretations of the meaning of the song "Selalu Ada di Nadimu," the original soundtrack (OST) of the film Jumbo, and to examine how cognitive and emotional processes play a role in their interpretations. The researcher employed a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including song playback, distribution of open-ended questionnaires, brief observations, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of seventh and eighth grade students from two schools in Pontianak City, namely SMP Negeri 3 Pontianak and SMP Kristen Immanuel Pontianak, with a total of 121 students whose responses were successfully collected. The results of the study indicate that students’ interpretations of the song "Selalu Ada di Nadimu" reflect four main patterns in their interpretive processes. First, interpretations based on personal experience constitute the largest category, with many students relating the song’s lyrics to their life experiences, struggles, and self-motivation. Second, emotional responses emerge through feelings of sadness and memories of family. Third, cognitive understanding of the lyrical message is reflected in students’ explanations about parental love and support. Fourth, moral values appear, such as the importance of appreciating family and not giving up easily. These findings show that students interpret the song through a combination of personal experiences, emotions, and their ability to understand the lyrics. This study emphasizes that songs can serve as learning media that support adolescents’ cognitive and emotional development, particularly in helping students develop the ability to understand messages, interpret texts, and connect lyrics with their personal experiences.
