Abstract

Ekoenzim menggunakan bahan baku yang mudah didapat dan murah. Proses fermentasinya yang selama 3 bulan, memang membutuhkan kesabaran tersendiri. Namun, larutan yang dihasilkan memiliki khasiat yang sangat banyak. Dalam proses fermentasinya saja, sudah terus dihasilkan gas O3 (ozon) yang sangat dibutuhkan atmosfer bumi. Larutan ekoenzim bila dicampur dengan air, akan bereaksi serta dapat digunakan sebagai cairan pembersih mulai dari piring, lantai, pakaian, kakus, sampai dengan pencuci rambut dan sabun mandi. Bila dibutuhkan, juga bisa melancarkan saluran air yang tersumbat. Campuran dengan air bila digunakan untuk menyiram tanaman akan memberi hasil buah, bunga, atau panen yang lebih baik.disamping itu  juga dapat mengusir serangga-serangga pengganggu. Ampas sampah organik yang sudah difermentasi bisa digunakan sebagai pupuk organik yang baik. Selain ramah lingkungan limbah rumah tangga bisa menjadikan nilai ekonomis bagi warga RW 07 Kec.Sagulung Kota Batam karena selain lingkungan menjadi bersih juga tidak memerlukan biaya yang mahal untuk memperolehnya. Dengan memperkenalkan pengelolan limbah rumah tangga dengan ekoenzim. Manfaat yang ada dari ekoenzim adalah bisa melancarkan saluran air yang tersumbat. Elain itu, bisa juga digunakan untuk menyiram tanaman akan memberi hasil buah, bunga, atau panen yang lebih dan dapat mengusir serangga-serangga pengganggu. Ampas sampah organik yang sudah difermentasi bisa digunakan sebagai bahan untuk kebersihan dan juga sebagai pupuk organik yang baik.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini berupa sosisalisasi dan pembelajaran kepada anak-anak tentang pentingnya penguasaan Bahasa Inggris. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memotivasi anak-anak dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris  di lingkungan RT 02 RW 02 Kelurahan Tanjung Buntung Kecamatan Bengkong. Metode yang digunakan adalah observasi dan tinjauan ke lapangan untuk mengetahui kondisi semangat belajar anak-anak di lingkungan setempat. Pembelajaran dilakukan dengan metode yang menyenangkan dan santai. Kemudian penghargaan diberikan untuk lebih memotivasi dengan pemberian nilai hasil tugas dan komentar positif. Ada 4 faktor yang memengaruhi termotivasinya anak-anak  untuk mampu belajar lebih giat.Yang pertama, cita–cita karena merupakan motivasi untuk belajar dengan giat. Kedua adalah kemampuan belajar karena kemampuan belajar siswa harus diperhatikan tidak semua siswa mempunyai kemampuan yang sama tergantung minat dan bakat. Ketiga kondisi jasmani dan rohani merupakan faktor yang mempengaruhi belajar anak. Keempat adalah kondisi lingkungan sangat berpengaruh dalam motivasi belajar siswa. Hal tersebut memengaruhi motivasi belajar untuk anak-anak dilingkungan tersebut sehingga  diperlukan kegiatan yang berinovasi agar dapat meningkatkan semangat belajar anak-anak dalam belajar.

Abstract

English is very important for communication between countries so that BP batam is a government agency that cannot be separated from developing its English language skills. LPPM Unrika's collaboration with BP Batam Finance Bureau staff in implementing online English language training during the pandemic to improve English language skills. Overall service activities are carried out in a span of 6 months (July-August 2021). The post-test results obtained a conclusion that the basic English skills of the inmates were very good with an average score of 81.8, while the lowest score was 80 and the highest score was 85. When compared to the pre-test where the lowest score was 71.6 and the highest was 80, with an average of 77.1. So the average result of the pre-test and post-test scores is 79.4, so the achievement value of BP Batam's financial bureau staff increases significantly.

Abstract

As one of required subjects in University level for EFL class, reading should be learned by the students to their own way and strategy so that their reading comprehension has better progress. Unfortunately, reading can be a difficult subject for them even though they are English department students. Internal and external can be the two factors for them in learning it. Academic self-management is one of internal psychological factor defined as learning strategy used by foreign learner to control various factors influenced their learning process specifically reading comprehension. Reading anxiety can be the threats of self-concept caused by limited knowledge and foreign language skill. The objective of this research is to find out the effect of academic self-management and reading anxiety toward English reading comprehension. The researcher uses quantitative research by using expost facto design. Random sampling is chosen as sampling technique in this research and English department students of Riau Kepulauan University in Batam as the population. Instruments used by the researcher are questionnaire to assess the students’ academic self-management and their reading anxiety. Moreover, test is used for measuring the students’ reading comprehension. The data was analyzed by using Two-Way ANAVA and then continues to Tuckey test. The result shows that there was effect of academic self-management and reading anxiety toward the students reading comprehension, the score of Qcount bigger than Qtable (12,22>3,07). Then, it was also found that students reading comprehension having low reading anxiety differ to students having high reading anxiety in which Qcount(3.47)> Q table (2.89). Besides that, students higher reading anxiety having high academic self-management were showed different to students low reading anxiety and having high reading anxiety. It was calculated that Qcount (9.00)> Qtable (3.01). In contrary, it was counted that Qcount (-0.08)<Q table (3.01) means there was no difference students lower academic self-management having low reading anxiety and high reading anxiety in reading comprehension

Abstract

Abstract         The aim of this research was to find out whether any effect of grammatical knowledge towards student’s listening score in TOEFL Test. The design of the research was a correlational research that aims to find out whether any significant correlation of grammatical knowledge towards student’s listening score in TOEFL Test. The population of the research was english department students of Universitas Riau Kepulauan and the sampe was taken by using purposive sampling. The number of the sample was 80 students. Data of the research were gathered by using test of grammatical knowledge and TOEFL Listening test. Those were the data of student’s grammatical knowledge and student’s listening score of TOEFL test. Based on the result of data analysis by using ttest, it was found out that student’s grammatical knowledge affects their listening score in TOEFL test. Keywords: grammatical knowledge, listening, TOEFL test Abstrak       Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya pengaruh dari grammatical knowledge terhadapkemampuan listening mahasiswa program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris pada pengajaran TOEFL. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian korelasi yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada hubungan yang signifikan antara grammatical knowledge dan kemampuan listening mahasiswa program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris pada pengajaran TOEFL. Penelitian ini menggunakan populasi seluruh mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Riau Kepulauan, Kepulauan Riau dan pemilihan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Adapun sampel yang digunakan yaitu mahasiswa semester akhir pada program studi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris yang berjumlah 80 mahasiswa. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes grammar dan tes TOEFL. Data yang dihasilkan merupakan data mengenai grammatical knowledge dan kemampuan listening yang didapatkan melalui tes. Berdasarkan hasil analisa dengan menggunakan ttest, didapatkan hasil bahwa grammatical knowledge yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa pendidikan Bahasa Inggris mempengaruhi skor listening yang mereka dapatkan dalam TOEFL test. Kata kunci: grammatical knowledge, listening, TOEFL test

Abstract

One of student’s competence that is expected in college level is to be able to write an argumentative essay. An argumentative essay is a genre of writing that requires students to investigate a topic; collect; generate, evaluate evidence, and establish a position on the topic in a concise manner. The purpose of this study was to find out how EFL learners’ writing competence in writing an argumentative essay. Then, the research question was how are EFL learners’ writing skill in writing an argumentative essay. The research was a descriptive qualitative study, as the data on EFL learners’ writing was analyzed to determine their competence in writing an argumentative essay. The analysis was conducted by describing and explaining the data. The study found that EFL learners’ writing skill in writing an argumentative essay was mostly adequate. In general, the organization was clear and showed the purpose of writing clearly; the content was in logical sequence; the grammar was mostly effective, even though, there were some flaws in the structure of some complex sentences; most of the mechanics were legible and neat, sometimes the word choice is not too appropriate for the context, but it could  convey the message of an essay.

Abstract

Lately, innovative models to teach English have been widely discussed. Communicative competence is definitely the goal when we teach speaking to foreign language learners. However, the goal was rarely achieved in speaking class. In this study, one of technique in Cooperative Learning, jigsaw technique, was proposed. It was predicted that jigsaw technique of teaching speaking and student’s speaking anxiety had effect toward student’s speaking competence. Jigsaw is a technique that can be used in speaking class as it assigns the students to work in team, where they tend to feel secured and comfortable to learn speaking. While speaking anxiety could be a language barrier distracting the students to succeed in speaking class. It is an internal factor from the student’s mind which prevents them from delivering communicative competence. Thus, the objectives of the study were to find out the effectiveness of jigsaw technique in teaching speaking as well as the influence of speaking anxiety, one of psychological factors in learning foreign language, towards the student’s speaking competence. The population of the research was the first semester students of English Department Universitas Riau Kepulauan. The research method was a quasi experiment and the data were taken by using a speaking test and questionnaires. Students’ speaking competences were assessed based on six categories namely fluency, task, comprehension, grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. While Saito’s speaking anxiety questionnaire was used to reveal student’s speaking anxiety. Abstract

A manager's position requires him or her to make decisions. This is a critical task, particularly for managers who are in charge of planning. Educational institutions, whether in Kindergarten, Elementary School, Junior High School, Senior High School or even High School or University, are organized institutions which also need a manager as the leader. The purpose of this article is to explore the decision making in educational organization that can be applied in the higher educational environment. This conceptual article is developed based on several literature review. There are 14 articles were reviewed in order to get the notion of decision making, the elements that influence decision making, and the efficacy of decision making and problem solving so that can be implemented in higher educational institutions. As a conclusion, decision-making in the field of higher education, particularly for educational leaders in higher educational organization, must be able to choose the best option alternatives so that educational institutions' organizational goals of enhancing performance and quality of education can be met ideally.Keywords: decision making, higher education, educational organization

Abstract

This article presents the outcomes of empirical investigations employing Conversation Analysis (CA) to analyse classroom interaction, which is based on a review of 20 academic papers. In this review, we describe (1) Conversational analysis in classroom interactions, (2) Classroom interaction problems discovered through conversational analysis, and (3) Pedagogical implications of conversational analysis in teacher training through reflective practice. Findings show that by analyzing the studies of conversation analysis in classroom interaction, the researchers tried to figure out the pattern of interaction in several aspects such as verbal and nonverbal interaction, turn-taking, repair management, and adjacency pairs. They also used conversation analysis to look at a problem that happened in classroom interaction. In addition, conversation analysis is used in a reflective practice with pedagogical consequences in teacher education. This review adds to our understanding of CA while also providing important information for those who want to use it to better understanding of classroom interaction.Keywords:  conversation analysis, classroom interaction, reflective.

Abstract

In learning a foreign language, speaking is an essential component as it is used to deliver the meaning to interact and connect with one another. It is also often seen as an indicator of success in learning a foreign language. However, due to its interactive character, speaking in a foreign language has been identified as the most difficult ability for language learners. The study was an integrative literature review that aimed to unfold the factors that might affect speaking performance of foreign language learners. Due to the rapid pace of research, it is difficult to keep up with state-of-the-art research, so a literature review is necessary. The goal of the study is not to cover all articles ever published on the topic, but rather to combine information and ideas from different fields or past studies. In conducting the review, it will use taxonomy or classification in analyzing the reviewed studies. Approximately 20 studies including those published in research articles, book chapters, books, and other types of publications that concern the factors that may affect speaking performance are being reviewed. The finding suggests that five factors are named as determinants of speaking performance. Those are lack of L2 exposure, inhibition, anxiety, learner autonomy, motivation, and teaching pedagogy. Lack of exposure, inhibition, and anxiety were considered as negative factors of speaking performance, meanwhile a higher degree of learner autonomy and motivation as well as appropriate teaching pedagogies could be beneficial to boost FL learners’ speaking performance.
